Don't know, but some things to consider.

Can't see why you're asked to pay for the dlcs unless the copy you have is not new. (Would have expected the old unauthorised issue myself, most problems are to do with that.)

Given the very nature of dlcs I would expect that you would need to install them, preferably on hard drive. I don't think they're playable off the disc, but I could be wrong.

I bought the Ultimate Edition, new not used. And it just shows that the second disc is only the awakening.

Have you installed to the hard drive? I suspect you'll need to to play the dlc.

If the discs are all correct the dlcs should be on the Awakening disc. I do know that early PS3 copies didn't have the dlcs on disc but I haven't heard of that for the 360 edition.

If you haven't already I would suggest the obvious:

(1) Register the game here (looking at your profile that is something you haven't done yet).

(2) Enter the code for the dlc which came with the game. (Though I've read that in some cases that might not be the case, code should be on an insert in the case.)

(3) Install to a hard drive.

See if any of that helps.

I don't know if I'm suppose to post here, but I'm kind of freaking out and I need a good answer.
Do I need xbox live to install the Ultimate Edition? There has been countless people saying you do need it, and others saying that you don't at all. I asked someone at Gamestop and she told me that she didn't need Live to install any of it.
Is it just certain disks that do this?
I don't have Live. I don't have enough money to buy Live either or connected the xbox to internet, which means I'm kind of stuck. :c

So, do I need internet to install it all?

And if I don't, what if I need to update the xbox? My father keeps saying that there should be an update on the disk already, since other games seem to update the xbox by simply being put in. Is that true, or would I have to go on Live? That sucks another round, huh?
If I do need Live, someone said that got the update off the computer and put it on a memory stick or cd, then put it in the xbox to update it.
I'm getting a lot of stories. I know I shouldn't believe everything I read, but I got this game for Christmas and I don't want my dad to have wasted 60 dollars.
We're living in a motel right now, and he shouldn't have wasted money on this. I feel guilty I didn't read this, but I thought everything would be on the disk. I don't know much about xbox. I only play on it for Dragon Age.
Can someone please help me? I think I'm going to give myself an ulcer worrying about this.

P.S. this is probably going to sound SERIOUSLY stupid, but i don't have an xbox right now. :/ i just want to get everything straightened out before i try anything so I don't get my hopes up that it will work.

Is there a way to install it without problems?

Probably better to have started another thread to be honest. You have a ton of questions, and not all are directly related. I'll make suggestions and tell you what I know, and maybe others will chip in along the way.

(Q1) Do you need XBox Live to install the Ultimate Edition?

Yes and no.

Technically all the dlc is on the second disc, and it can be installed onto a 360 with ample memory (ideally hard drive).

The catch is, even after installing the dlcs you do need XBox Live to register and claim the dlc as your own to actually play them.

Additional: you do not need to buy access (at least for the Silver service in the UK, but it might be different elsewhere).

(Q2) Needing XBox Live to apdate console?

As for XBox 360 updates the 'easiest' way is to have internet access, and the 360 updates automatically. Some magazines may have updates on their cover discs. It should be possible to burn a CD/DVD and update that way (though I couldn't find that info on the XBox Live website), but you'll still need internet access.

Additional: You don't have to update your 360, unless it was for certain things like Kinect. I had my 360 for several years before connecting to XBox Live and got my first update.

Additional 2: Not sure if Microsoft would have console updates on a game disc like Sony had the new firmware for the PS3 on Gran Turismo 5 discs, and even then Sony owned Polyphony. Seems unlikely that Dragon Age, made by a third party, would have console updates.

(Q3) Does game have update?

If by update you meant a patch, then yes. The Ultimate Edition has the latest patch 1.04 on it.

(Q4) Is there a way to install without problems?

I'd be pessimistic and say no. Look around the tech forum and you will see others having problems. Others don't seem to. All you can do is hope for the best; there are no guarantees.

I think by update he meant an update, with some games I believe you need a xbox update to play them. I know for normal xbox games you need an update on some consoles. Poor guy is just worrying himself to death about this, I been there I feel ya.

I do know when a friend first got Dragon Age when it first came out, we installed The stone prisoner I believe on his console, but he didnt have internet at his house, we were at his sister's, and I was helping him. Thing is it only worked when connected online. Unplug live and dlc wouldnt work. I got my Dragon Age bout the same time as him, and mine worked fine, on or offline. So even if you install it, and get updates, if you unplug the internet it might not work at all. IT's sad, but that's the way of games now.

That's a good point actually, which reminds me of a particular problem I had.

With some dlc once you disconnect from XBox Live you can't access your save games due to a problem with the dlc; I had that with two particular bonus items from playing Dragon Age: Journeys. Which meant deleting, redownloading, booting up, etc. Eventually it will work offline but I can't say I know for certain how it worked. Point is: it could happen to you.

Strictly speaking it should be possible to play dlc offline with no problems after authorising them.

OBakaSama is mistaken - authorisation is only needed for the PC version.

The DLC for the console versions are playable without an internet connection.

Ultimate edition disc 1 will recognise and accept dlc from disc 2 (earlier game discs will not)

Z4MPUR4 - check you have the right discs. Your second disc sounds like the standalone awakening expansion disc which is not one of the discs in ultimate edition.

That might be true actually. Though I had to redeem the code provided to get my dlcs to play on my 360; perhaps things have changed. Certainly if you don't have to redeem any code, then you don't need an internet connection.

I have the xbox version of the ultimate edition; the content is uploading to my profile, even though I have it synced (it's not actually syncing). Is it because i switched systems (from PC to Xbox 360?)
Also, my profile doesn't have my xbox synced to it; how do I sync my xbox?

There shouldn't be an issue of cross platform gaming. I have Origins and Awakening on my 360 and UE on the PC. At the very least I haven't experienced any trouble along those lines.

Does your Gamertag use the same email as your EA account? As I understand it they need to be the same.

I know this should be in a different, or rather, my own forum, but I am having similar problems. I had the original Dragon Age game. And right before 2 came out I had to have the Ultimate Edition of DAO. I traded in CD's to get it when I got home I downloaded the DLC to my WD external hard drive. The partition I made is seeing the "Expansion Pack" but all that's showing up for me is the Blood Dragon Armor and Fury of Shale/Stone Prisoner (which I already had from the original DAO). So how do I open this up, because I know some DLCs are prequels, stand-alones, etc. But they should show up that I have them all.

I am a die hard Dragon Age fan. This is the first RPG other than Fallout 3 I have fallen in love with.

The second disc from the Ultimate Edition should bring you to a menu to install Awakening and any DLC you wish to install. That's how it worked for me anyway.

You need to put the second disc in, press play disc and it should come up with an install screen for all the DLC, you can also pick and choose which you want to install.
Hope that helped =)

No, I am running on Xbox 360. It wouldn't let me "play" the second disc and upload the games, because I am running on an Arcade Slim version. So, I ended up begging Gamestop to help me out by downloading the content onto one of their hard drives and then transfer the content to an external hard drive I am using as a "flash drive." After they did all the dlc and transferred it I went home all excited only to start playing and find that "4 unknown dlc are corrupt." I am guessing they are Awakening, Witches Curse, Lilileana's Song and Darkspawn Chronicles (The 4 most important dlc imho). So, now I am at the hair pulling point and don't know what else to do other than return the game and give up.

Second, will the dlc from the second disc only work if I utilize they first disc, or can I use an original Origins disc?

Sorry. I assumed you were on PC because you mentioned a WD (Western Digital?) external hard drive and partitioning. Very PC things for me rather than console. Sidetrack over.

For starters since the dlc you now have wasn't downloaded onto your console it sounds like a license transfer is necessary to get them to work. You will need an internet connection to do that though.

http://www.xbox.com/...eMigration/Home

If my assumptions are correct, the dlc should work once you do the license transfer.

Also, I believe there are disc reading problems with disc 2 of the Ultimate Edition. If possible I would suggest seeing if you can exchange it for a properly working one instead. As it stands I think you also can't access Awakening on that disc either.

I tried that and it isn't recognizing or even seeing the Origins dlc - just stuff from Fallout 3, Fable and Dragon Age 2. I am assuming since I didn't download the content onto an Xbox HDD that was mine is to the "flash drive." Xbox Live would have no way of knowing what this content was.

I contacted EA today and they were their usual helpful selves ad basically said, "Sorry, that's a bummer." And said to try the game store again. Though, I am quite sure that Gamestop won't want to as it took of their two employees out of action for an hour or so. I do not know anyone else with an upgraded Xbox (Xbox w/ a HDD), so it seems that until I get one I am basically SOL (because, all my friends stuck with PS). It's a bummer, but I am so over the stress of trying to get all the dlc to work I am nearing not playing the game anymore.

As for your latter comment, the EA tech support guy hinted (though, did't come outright and say it) that it was a known problem for the biggest DLC to corrupt. Did he offer any other resolutions, no. So, being out 45 bucks I am not going to have the game sit here until I do have an HDD. I'm probably just going to return it and get something else.

Thanks for the reply OBakaSama. If you have any further advice within the next few hours to a day before I return it - I would greatly appreciate it.

Oh, ObakaSama I forgot to add that I am using the WD (Western Digital) external hard drive as basically a big "flash drive."

OK. I see now (on the external HD thing).

An obvious question I forgot to ask is whether the current dlc was downloaded at Gamestop using your Gamertag. (It took two employees to help you with a download...? Crikey, sounds like overkill.)

Dlcs are connected to the console and Gamertag as much as the HD; so if there is any discrepancy in the detail there it might prevent it from working.

If someone is willing have you tried downloading straight to your external HD? (You would still need to do the license transfer I believe, but that would eliminate one source of discrepancy.)

That's all I can think of I'm afraid. Whatever you try to do, good luck.

xCult Herox stated that the second disc (where the dlc is located) is not reading which prevents the simplest solution unfortunately.

It does remind me though. I would think the dlc (if you can get it to work) should work with the first disc (can an UE owner confirm this?). It's a moot point if you can't get it to work of course.
