Im having a hard time desiding. I want to to play a Warrior with the cool moves and Bethany to protect but I also want to use Staff of Parthalan and Hawke's Mage Robes, and since they use Mage Hawke to promote the game, it makes me feel that it's the "real" Hawke an make's me  want to play that Hawke. (I'm saving Rogue Hawke for Lady Hawke)
So, who is going to be my "real" Hake?

Warrior Hawke:
+Bethany
+Cool Moves
+Mostly Meleé
-No Staff of Parthalan
-No Hawke's Mage Robes

Mage Hawke:
+Staff of Parthalan
+Hawke's Mage Robes
+DAII posterboy"
-No Bethany
-Mostly Ranged attacks

One idea I'm having is to wait untill my last playthrough before DAIII and then play my "real" Hawke, like I'm doing with Mass Effect. But that would mean using my "real" Origins saveimport on 2 playthroughs and it feals somewhat like a waste.

Anyone else got problem chosing?

While the starting outfit for Mage Hawke might look cool, the rest are just simple crappy robes like in DAO.

I'm going with Warrior Hawke for first playthrough. Why? I simply think it should be Bethany for Male Hawke, Carver for Female Hawke and since I'm playing as male in my first playthrough, it's warrior

I'll be going Mage for more personal ties to the plot, assuming it is Templar vs Mage.

I would say do your canon playthrough as your first playthrough as the first time is always special and evoke the most emotional response for me personally. Then before the release of DAIII, you can do your Canon Playthrough Revised where you make sure every decision is the one you want to carry over to DAIII

we've only seen 2 robes until now and that clothing marian's wearing (like the one garret's wearing in the dev diary) in ign's preview.
i wouldn't jump the gun just yet.

2 robes: there was one i saw in the previous class selection screen, and the other i saw in the dev diary.

I just want to say that Rogue Hawke's armor is already my favorite armor in the game.

Also, Warrior Hawke's armor is ugly as hell.

Yeah, that too. Sure, Mage Robes have to be for Mages but not only and not for the main character.

There is no such thing as 'canon' Hawke. Stop making things 'canon', it'll give Bioware ideas to make Dragon Age 2 Awakenings and that prospect horrifies me.

I know what I'm playing as. I started DAO as a warrior so I'm taking the same course with DA2. :D

I find mages to be boring. I dunno why- whatever game I play, I never choose anything to do with magic unless it's minor enchantment skills to modify my weapons and some games cover that with potions that you can buy. Even in DA:O I only take Morrigan along at one point and that's for the Sacred Ashes quest- go figure. I always play a sword and shield warrior or an archer rogue. I don't think I'll be changing it this time around either.

Personally, i always play warrior first. most likely give the staff of Parthalan to bethany, since it's just as much a family heirloom for her as it would be for me.

I said, your 'canon' not Bioware's 'canon'. For me it's usually when I do the least role-play and base my decision on my personal value. Then I do the role-playing playthrough after that. *shrug* that's just the way how I do it anyway.

I don't think Hawke in the trailer is supposed to be, just, representitive of the Mage. Much like the trailers for DA:O, the character they show is more of a composite of all three class, so I'm pretty sure it's the same for the DA2 trailers.

While he does use magic and a signature staff in the Qunari fight in the Destiny trailer, he also does alot of melee fighting representitive of the warrior and rogue.

My second was my favorite in Origins mostly because I could do what I feelt my Female City Elf would do without always thinking "is this the good responce?". I always try to hard to do my first playthrough perfect so I reload and go through every dialog option aso. Thats why the second was more relaxing for me and my City Elf Warden felt more like a character then just my Avatar for desitions like the first Warden.
And desiding after how I feelt she would deside, I got myself some suprises along the way (like Alistair sacraficing his life to save my City Elf).

In Origins I mostly played as the main tank, but in DA2 I want a gigantic long sword and dish out some heavy damage.

Good therapy in my oppinion =)

Mage always... Mages have true power, and are master manipulators..
Warriors are just normals who whack people with their swords..

I'm dead set on going mage in my first playthrough, but I don't know what to choose between two-hander and DW rogue in the second.

I'm rolling with a female warrior.

Post Hawke characters will probably be anything but a warrior since my Cousland and my Hawke will have been warriors.

Mage all the way. I'm a magic geek, and the Fade is one of the most incredible explanations for magic I have ever seen in the fantasy genre. Plus, you know, shooting lightning from my hands. Coolness. I just hope I can still make Hawke an arcane warrior and double-dip. ;-)

That's why for every mage who dies at the hand of a warrior/rogue, it feels that much more special.

I'm confused as well. I always play as a mage first time, then a rogue. But the whole Bethany/Carver thing has really made me think.

Rogue Hawke

+ I seem to enjoy Rogue combat more

+ Merrill will be in my party (I like having my main LI in my party)

+ Bethany

- I'll probably miss out on the Isabela banter

- I don't like the look of Rogue armour on a male Hawke

Mage Hawke

+ I'm always a mage

+ I enjoy playing as a mage (mainly dialogue and people's reactions)

+ Hawke sounds mageyish,in my opinion

- Stuck with Carver who'll probably side with the bloody Templars

- Merrill won't be in the party
