So, just bought the deluxe edition last night after reading all the glowing reviews of this game. i was very excited about this.

Installed it last night and gave it a spin.

After creating my character and starting the first quest, all the sudden, my screen goes blank and I get the 'no signal' to my monitor. WTH!

I cant get back to the desktop and am forced to hardboot my PC.

Thought it was a fluke, but tried it again this morning and did the same thing, but this time, I was trying a new character and never made it through the dialogue.

My PC should be more than capable as it meets the recommended requirements.

I have no problems running other games, like Left 4 Dead, Empire at War, Champions Online...etc, so I know my rig works.

What is the policy on getting my money back if this continues? i dont want this if I cant play it.

BTW i bought it through Steam.

Yes mate i have exactly the same problem and I also bought my game from steam hmmm...

I had the same problem, there was a thread earlier about this same issue, mainly for people with ATI cards, for some folks going back to 9.6 drivers solved the problem, my problem was apparantly the video card (a overclocked 3870) i had to get riva tuner and turn down my OC settings and i havent had the blackscreen/hard boot error since

Have you tried turning PhysX off in your control panel?  That did the trick for me.

I am having the same issues. I've tried just about everything, but nothing seems to work. For me, the game is unplayable. What is so frustrating, is the lack of an official response to this problem. I've attempted to contact EA Support several times via their email support system, yet have not received a response. Have you tried turning PhysX off in your control panel?  That did the trick for me.

*edit: Also is that ONBOARD sound you are running? If so then you need to go out and buy a sound card, this game doesnt support onboard sound for the most part.

The game has been rock solid on my GTX 260 with 195 other than my Warden's Keep vanishing.

I have the same onboard sound, and it works perfectly fine with my 5.1 surround.

As for the problem itself, for a few days now I've been seeing people with game unplayable problems. The one common trait most of them share is that they all use Win XP. Of course, there is no test or actual reason behind this, but it is an observation.

Onboard sound is fail, fyi. Go get a sound blaster titanium, or another one with built in ram on the card. So much better performance overall. Assuming you can afford it what with the economy being harsh and all.

I don't think you need a discrete sound card, those realtek onboard devices have really improved over the years (Creative did not). It depends on your boxes / headphones if you will hear a difference at all (this is coming from somebody owning a x-fi titanium card).



Any "performance gain" will be negated by the bloatware Creative calls drivers.



My pc crashes as well. I even tried disabling my sound devices system wide, but it did not help.
