What the heck?

I've been waiting to get Dragon Age 2 on Steam, as I've been living in Europe for a year and still have 6 months to go, only to find out that it became available exactly 3 days after the Signature Edition is no longer available?  Are you kidding me?  What is this?

I mean, I can kinda understand Shale being released with the original game when I bought it.  I guess it was to reduce the resale of the game, but to create a character before the game is released, and then make it DLC?  Why?  Why not release the entire package at once?  Why nickle and dime us?

BioWare.  I love you guys.  I've been with you since Baldur's Gate, and only only twice have you given me less than AAA+ games.  But this hurts.

I've already bought the game.  I waited for the sale on Steam, then bought it, only to turn around and be told about the Signature Edition less than an hour afterward.  I.. am so... very, very angry right now.  I feel like a good friend betrayed me for a few lousy dollars.

I can tell you this much, that prince isn't ever going to get the revenge he deserves.

Unbelievable.  I can only speculate why you would do this, and doing it here wouldn't be constructive.  But this was a low blow, and I wanted you to know that a long time loyal fan of everything you've done is no longer going to see yoru company in the same way.  The unconditional trust is gone.

:(

It's your own damn fault.

Edit for kneejerk agressiveness: It is not bioware's fault

Another thread? Was the other one locked already?

For living in Europe?

For not having another way to buy the English version of the game?

For not spending the 20 hours of free time I have during the week looking up every piece of information for this game?

Thanks for reminding me why I avoid the "community" here.

The Signature Edition promotion was listed in Bioware's DA2 site for several months while the offer was available, and IIRC, it also listed retailers who were offering the promotion. The reality is that developers and retailers are not always able to arrange every promotion to appear with every retailer, and that includes Steam. But you could have taken advantage of the promotion with another retailer.

Jeez, it's just one character. If it's anything like Mass Effect 2 he won't be critical to have or anything.

I wanted to post this on the other Steam thread but Mr. Woo locked it before I finished typing it out.

Also, you're confusing Bioware with EA. Bioware just develops the games now, it's EA job to oversee marketing, retail, and so on.

Edited for overeagerness: It was available for months, just not on Steam. Everywhere else it was golden.

Razaroh wrote...

A thought occurred to me; In articles dating from October it's mentioned that all pre-orders were being upgraded to the Signature Edition free of charge. Perhaps this wasn't the intended sale of the Signature Edition, just an enticement for those on the fence and a reward for those who already dove in? It wouldn't change the fact that Steam users still would have missed out on the upgrade regardless, but it could shed some light on how the deal between the two companies couldn't be worked out in time. This, however, would only be confirmed if EA were to release the SE to everyone again at a latter date.

It's EAs job as the publisher to find ways get the games to consumers, otherwise they lose money. I know that EA is the cancer killing Bioware but I cannot see them passing up a chance to make money were it in their power to.

And how does living in Europe stop you, exactly?

For not having another way to buy the English version of the game?

There's more than just Steam that accomplishes this.

For not spending the 20 hours of free time I have during the week looking up every piece of information for this game?

That's your own fault.

For the love of god somebody lock this thread. This discussion has been done to death, over and over and over. There is nothing new that anyone could possibly add, so please, save yourselves the trouble?

Edit: Heyyy.... That was a nice picture :(

I'm.  In.  Europe.

Switzerland to be exact.  Yeah, I could have bought the game in French (my fourth and worst language), German (second but not quite perfect language), or Italian (can't speak a word).  Where exactly would I have found a retailer here with an English copy of the game?  I've been searching for English versions of games here for a year now.  It's how I became addicted to Steam.  Should I have paid 200+ CHF to travel to England and preorder the game?

For something that happened in the last few days?  Okay...

Ah, so it was brought up weeks ago that there was no information about it on Steam, and it was locked because someone was upsetting the "community" the same way I was by questioning why the game is being sold in pieces instead of all together and not on the most popular and easy-to-use digital download service online.

That helps me how?

Is the message, "Don't bother because we'll say it's your fault and get upset until someone locks the thread?"

It's part of the game, already planned and developed, that is being sold piecemeal.  I don't care if it's not essential to the game, it's still part of it.  An already developed and finished part of it.

Can you imagine if Harry Potter was finished, and everyone was sold the "standard edition" and had to pay extra to read any parts that had Harry interacting with the minor characters that fleshed out the series?

Wow.  This bascially going to be the theme of the thread, isn't it?

Apparently I'm not the only one that's been burned by this, and the default response is to the lock the thread, is that it?

I've never been more ashamed to share a hobby with people.

Aren't there game companies based out of the UK that will ship anywhere in Europe? Like Game.co.uk?

And you should use the search function because this exact post keeps getting made by upset Steam users every hour. If you can't find another thread on the same thing, it's because you didn't look.

The signature edition was available in Europe in english edition, maybe your country wasn't on the list but you could've ordered it from one of the sites. Belgium wasn't in the list either if I recall but I had the possibility to get the signature edition too. I have to agree it's a bit crap but it isn't Bioware's fault.

(and yes it's a shame that signature edition isn't on steam but that's EA's fault, not bioware).

peace & luv

In b4thelock

I believe other Europeans have said that so yes it was available to be sent to Switzerland.

Is steam the only digital download option?  I wouldn't know, for the most part I'm a dirty console user and I like having things physically so I can line them all up next to each other and go.  "Wow,  that's like... a lot of CDs." etc, etc, etc.

I myself was led to believe that every other digital download company was granted the ability to use the SE edition.  Why didn't you look for one of them?

From what it sounds like, EA and Valve are both to blame for not coming to an agreement over... something.

I don't think the SE edition was available for digital download, though could be wrong. Looked on EA and Steam(the major digital distributors(?)) and they only had the new version available.

Impulse and D2D also had it, probably others as well.

:bandit:Now they do, but other digital distributors like D2D and Impulse, and even game.uk offered the SE as a digital download when it was available:bandit:
