It's a wonderful time to find you have an issue with exporting - I'm sure I fixed this at some point, but I honestly can't remember how.

I'm currently running Windows 7, and tend to swap between 3dsMax and Gmax, so I use the .mdl export option to transfer models between the two (and to export completed models). However, I'm currently having an issue whereby clicking the "Export" option doesn't export to an .mdl file under any circumstances. The MaxScript Listener displays the results fine, but I can't copy all of the information inside there to paste it in a Notepad file if it's as large as some of my model files are, so it's incredibly awkward.

Any suggestions would be more than welcome, thanks!

So far I've tried:
~Run in Admin mode
~Run in XP Compatibility
~Reinstall Gmax, install NWMax to scripts folder
~Reinstall Gmax, install NWgMax to scripts folder

When starting NWgMax you need to use the NWMax icon.  Typically it is created in your gmax install directory once NWMax for gMax is installed.  Doing so starts the Snoop application which captures and creates your exported mdl files.  Not sure about Windows 7, but on previous Windows versions you will know if the Snoop is active when you see a green NWMax icon in your system tray.

If that does not appear to work, you could try doing a "Ctrl-A" inside the listener window and pasting to something a little better than Notepad (such as Wordpad, Word or its OpenOffice equivalent, or one of the numerous free text editors available ie TextPad).

Hey there,

Thanks for the suggestions. The Snoop app on the start bar's running and is green, as expected. I'll try using something other than Notepad for pasting. :P

Hi again,

Discovered an unusual fix for my problem, so I suppose I'll post it just in case anyone encounters the same issue.

If upon starting NWmax/Gmax the Snoop app is green, but it disappears after trying to export a file, you have to do the following:

+Load Gmax
+Right click -> close NWMax Snoop
+Load a second copy of Gmax
+Use the second copy for all exporting, while leaving the first copy running (doesn't matter if it's minimized or anything)

Very interesting.  Wondering if this a Windows 7/gMax compatibility issue.  At least you found a fix, even if it is a bit clunky.

Same problem like the topicstarter, but the fix don't help! It don't want to export *.mdl, only the dialog is correct I think! Don't know where the problem is?

You might need to run it in admin mode...

I just got a new laptop yesterday to evaluate and it's got Windows 7 64-bit on it. I've been getting used to the major change of having to run things in admin mode or compatibility mode to get them to work right. If running it in admin mode doesn't solve your problem with the listener, Raven, try setting compatibility to XP Service Pack 3 or something like that. I haven't had a chance to install GMax or anything like that but that seems to be a good rule of thumb I've found so far.

Win 7-64 causes all sorts of fun, sometimes you have to find complete workarounds. As far as operating systems go though it's top notch. In my 2 years of running it now, I have blue screened it only once. Sometimes you encounter DLL problems as a result of using a 64 bit system, for applications that were only ever designed for 32 bit.
