what about with a regular staff. I saw in a gameplay video (one that said it was from Ingroim or something?) and the guy was controling Bethany and fighting darkspawn with the staff up close, and was meleeing them i think. the point is r u able to melee with just a staff up close?

Yes.

At close range your mage will deal melee damage, with both the staff and the swordstaff.

I wonder if a swordstaff have a bonus in melee damage.

Maybe. An iron blade should deal more damage than a wooden staff in close range.

No; it's the just the animation that changes. The damage type stays the same as the regular staff attacks.

and Gill Kaiser is right it still does magic damage. in the video fire on the edges of the staff when she meleed. also, does magic determine the melee damage you do with staffs and sword/staffs or strength?

It was I was trying to say.  With "melee damage" I mean that a mage use his basic attack as a melee at close ranger.

We already talked about this before. Probably magic, but no one know for certain.

That picture is all sorts of amazing. Sigh... Why can't we romance ourselves in this game?

I'm a Mage at heart and I'll most definitely be a Mage in my first run. I did get a lot of pleasure from the Rogue class in DA: O though so I will also play a Rogue at some point.

I just hope we have more spells than last time. And yeah that pic is full of win.

I was looking at the skills they have on the main DA2 site and honestly I don't see why people are complaining about the whole lack of skills thing. All they did was streamline the abilities and remove those that were either not used very often or just had no real merit, the shape-shifting abilities for example. Then they gave some of those abilities upgrades so that you could make them stronger. I think if you were to actually organize the skill trees in a similar way to DA:O people would see that there are in fact quite a few choices available. The only problem is that by separating them out into individual sections and letting you only view those abilities makes it seem like there are less choices.
