With the exception of Bethany, Carver, and Sebastian.

If they are, that gives us Isabela, Fenris, Aveline, (what appears to be) Merril, Varric, Sebastian, Bethany/Carver, and what appears to be the human male in the Dev Diary.

Side note: I'd be satisfied if they are. I happen to like all of the companions they have announced. Anyone not satisfied if these are all of the companions?

Doubt Sebastian is in the book, he's a DLC character. Everything else seems right.

I don't actually see Merril in that picture, looking at the image opposite 'Fenris', but that could be my eyes. Especially since it does look like a dark haired elf.

EDIT: Looking forward to the reveal of the human male mage (or what appears to be), I have no idea who I'll be primarily taking along yet.

Like bsbcaer mentioned, those aren't the only party members. They're the highest on the priority list for Cassandra's investigation. It's not even necessary to recruit, say, Isabela, but she'll still be on the priority list, regardless of whether or not you recruited her. They're just six important characters.

She does have the short black hair and elf ears though.

Keep in mind that the illustrations in Varric's book are not perfect representations of what the characters actually look like in-game. Note the dark collar with a light edge in both of the pictures. I think it's safe to say that they are the same people.

Hahaha, no, it's most probably Merril; I just don't instantly recognise it as her as I do the others.

It's possible that they were on a different page with Leandra.

Well they said at least two of each class, probably not counting siblings or dlc. So six chars would make sense.

Not necessarily. Beth adds a mage to the mix. Carver adds a warrior. Sebastian adds a rogue. I sincerely doubt those six are the only companions over a span of ten years. They appear to be the closest people to Hawke who aren't family. Plus, it'd be silly to have such little diversity in a party. There's no older people like Wynne or no odd characters like Shale or Justice. Everyone on that page is younger and attractive.

i think it's a really good possibility. i think in the trailer it shows cassandra getting upsetting and asking about hawke to varric and then her throwing the dagger into the book, saying she knew that varric knew the champion before he was famous. could be what the party consisted of before hawke's epic rise?

They could be the party before he became the Champion, but I hardly think they're the only people he's called allies for an entire ten years.

You are assuming that everyone you make friends with want to or are able to be adventurer types.

Of course I'm not, but I am assuming that people will need your help and be interested in joining you in whatever you should choose to do. Not everyone, true, but more than seven people.

I'm 99.9% sure that these 6 are the only long-term companions in the base game. ME2 had 10 base companions in roughly the same amount of play time, but that game was completely based around recruiting companions. DA2, as far as we know, does not have that focus, so it's best if you do the sane thing and assume that we'll be sticking with these six people.
