Question for those who'd tried single/two-handed weapon rogue

I'm thinking along the line of minimum str for stat req. minimum dex for skill req. everything else into cunning and go dualist/assassin for Origin, will this transition into Awakening well or would a different build have a easier time in Awakening?

Why use swords at all? Rogues are better off with daggers, if you want a two sword character try strength built warrior, much better with swords than a rogue.
No no, I meant a single weapon (Sword + empty offhand) or Two-handed sword rogue. It's more for RP purpose than power gaming. I know it's going to be sub-optimum, but I don't want her to be so bad that she's useless altogether.

20 STR for the best light armor and you really only have two main attributes to pump, Cunning for damage and utility skills/talents and Dexterity for attack and defense. When melee attacks miss waaaaay more often than they hit, that's the best armor in the world.

Hmm, that's surprisingly to hear. Why max dex? I'd thought to-hit wouldn't be as much a problem with duelist and the point I put into Strength for armor req. Does Dex contribute to weapon damage more than Cun/Str for a sword, or two-handed sword build?
Here is some info on the attributes:
http://dragonage.wik...wiki/Attributes
And while there are no activated Talents, 38-42 STR will allow you to also utilize shields, and there are several nice ones including Maric's, Fade Wall, Duncan's, etc. If you do no care for a shield, the off hand is also good for a secondary weapon for adding Runes.
Due to the slow auto-attack speed, I would hesitate to try 2H as a Rogue with no previous experience in them.

Thanks, looks like I was right in that sword take damage from stregth 100%. I think I'm going to keep my str low and go for a dex/cun build like Paratrooper suggested. And interestingly enough. 2 handed weapon actually have a special backstab animation which is slightly faster than the regular attack.

Basicaly you are going to focus almost all your points into Str, only enough into Dex to get Skills and a Buffed Cun of 30 is only useful for lockpicking/coercion. I used Starfang(TwoHand) until I got Chasind Great Maul. I went Ranger/Duelest as these benefited the class best (Not a whole lot of reason to go Bard if you dont boost Cun, Likewise for Assassin particularly if you dont backstab much). It actualy worked rather well and the pet added damage and with the bear tanked as I backstabed with a two hander which as you say has a faster animation/attack speed. I was doing 80 damage backstabs at around lvl 5.
Talent wise I simply picked up all rogue and spec class skills and ignored the archery/duel weapon ones. I had plenty of attack and other options to play with so I was not shorted.
You only need (After fade buffs and books etc) 23 Dex and 22 Cun for this build and all other points into Str.(I dont suggets getting the rogue talent Evasion due to the annoyance and 35 Dex requirment.). Keep in mind you will have a damaging two handed weapon, heavy armor, and ability to combat stealth so this makes up for lower Defense from the lower Dex. This build also did good in Awakening particularly with the Legion Scout class. The new Rogue talents are more of a bag of tricks and unnessasary though and require large Dex investment.
You can have a rogue wearing Sentinal Armor and wielding two handed Vigilence by the end.

That sounds very promising actually, you've been a great help, thanks. I think I'll go play test this and a Cunning build to see how they turn out.

No problem, let me know how it works out. I couldnt see playing a Cun build with this though since that would mean your going to waste your points in Str. Not worth it for the very small crit increase and armor penetration versus the damage and attack score increase from str. Cun works for dagger because your boosting Dex, same deal for bows. It dosnt work well with other builds.
Also two mages running double haste will make you not even care about the attack speed anymore either.

Yah I'm thinking along the line of neglecting str and using light armor + Maric's Blade for a Cun/Dex backstab build, then try the 2-hander build you suggested and see how they compare to each others. If I don't lose too much damage with the single weapon build, I'd probably prefer it for aesthetic purpose. It's for my DAII import so honestly, I don't mind it being slightly sub-par.

Not true, you're forgetting about Lethality. It makes Cunning replace Strength for the damage multiplyer.
The only difference is instead STR increasing damage and attack you have Cunnin increasing damage and armor penetration. But then when you also have massive Dex you are not lacking at all for attack (and) defense.
The ONLY practical reason I can see for needing Strength at all for a roque is IF you want to mix it up with heavy armor and weapons. I have found with an even DEX/CUN mix rogue my character deals more damage than anyone in the party and he's more durable than Shayle, because almost everything misses.
