Hi. Please could anyone who has any info reply. Be it members of Bioware or just forum members.

I ordered my Signature Edition on January 3rd from play.com and received a confirmation email. However this morning i received an email saying that my order had been cancelled due to them running out of stock.

Firstly how is it possible to run out of stock with a pre-order? It isn't even out till March. I phoned them up and they say it has been removed from the site and is no longer availabe which is just as it should be but I don't think they understand the whole deal with the Signature Edition only being available for a certain period.

Please can some one who has had the same expereince or some one from Bioware or EA give me advice or a little help here as i am pretty annoyed.

Ouch. I've definitely heard of this happening with less established retailers. What happens is they over-commit on sales and don't realize it until someone along the line from sales to warehouse says "hey, we've got 100,000 pre-orders for this item but we're only getting 75,000 copies from the publisher." I'd get on their customer service's backs and if they try to brush you off, speak to a supervisor. They should NOT be selling product they don't have. Was your payment already processed or was it pending shipment? Bioware claims the SE was a $20 USD value, so if they can't make this right by getting you your copy, don't relent until they refund your purchase and maybe extend a gift credit for some value up to $20, since you can no longer take advantage of a limited time offer elsewhere.  If you can talk them into giving you a credit, you could buy the game for say $40 instead of the full $60, then buy all the SE day-one DLC and not be out any extra cash.

And in the future, never buy from play.com again if you have any other option.

Surely the retailer will refund you if they have your money?

This happened to me once with another item on Play.com. It is why I'm reluctant to pre-order limited edition items from them, despite a lower price.

@McAdams Sure you get your money back, but by the time you are notified it might be too late to get the item from somewhere else.

I don't think that's the point. SE can't be sold anymore so since they cancled his SE, he won't get one at all.

Retailers don't charge until they send out your copy. Usually.

The bluepeople usually say something about "contact the vendor with vendor issues." I don't know if they can do anything for you in this situation. It is nice you posted that though... I'll sure as hell never use Play.com now.

Maybe they were just confused by the signature edition no longer being sold? Worth contacting them, anyway.

I do not want to be misunderstood here, sure not getting the SE is a loss, but if he did not get his money back, it would have been worse. Perhaps you can check with the retailer further, they should honor the sale. Yes it would be difficult for them to do so, but they probably can talk to EA publisher or their supplier better than you can.

Hope you will be able to get a happy outcome.

He isn't obligated to do so, however. The eff up is on play.com's part.

Thanks for the replys. Am doing my best but looks like i'll just have to order the standard pre-edition(not Play). I didn't lose any money but when you expect something then have it taken away it's a pain. I'll still get the DLC though.

Chris Priestly he works for Bioware. But since this is a problem with an individual retailer he probably won't be able to offer much help.

Before you order another copy get on to their customer services and find out if they have actually cancelled your pre-order because they aren't getting enough copies or if they are just confused by the limited nature of the SE? If its the second one then they might be able to fix the whole mess and if not they might atleast offer you vouchers as compensation.

I also pre-ordered from Play.com, I actually pre-ordered 2 copies one on PC and one on PS3, I have yet to receive an email like this. However I once ordered Soul Caliber IV from them only fro them to tell like 2 weeks later it's sold out. Only reason I pre-ordered from them was at the time Game.com were charging extra for SE edition and Amazon has sloppy delivery.

Yeah it seems pretty weird how this has happened to no one else and yet i ordered a week before the deadline, surely I couldn't have been the last.

I would have ordered it elsewhere if i) I hadn't got a Play voucher for christmas and ii) it wasn't in the options for the pre-order on the dragon age site(but it was so assumed it would be cool).

Anyway thanks for the responses.

Actually I ordered my PC version of the game on the 10/01/2011, 2 days before the deadline. I don't know what platform your ordering for, but if it's PC then it's certainly weird that yours was cancelled and mine wasn't. However my PS3 version of the game was ordered well before the due date on the 05/12/2010.

Mine was for the Xbox. I'll keep hassling them, I'm sure they've made a mistake and just won't admit it.
