Now you remind me of the Dice playing ghost in The Witcher, only this time I am the ghost and I play RPGs

My husband is a big fan of Alexander the Great and I prefer the extra "i" in feminine names that end with "a". But that's just a stylistic thing really.

Oh wow, congratulations. That's a beautiful name for a girl, and it's the sort that doesn't need context either. She can enjoy her name without having to explain herself everytime someone says: "So you're called Zelda, huh? What's that like?"

First of all, I'm glad it's not just me who had thought of doing this. My husband promised me that if we had another boy I could name him Alistair.

Anyway, I don't think it's any more strange than naming a child after a character in a novel. And it also depends on the name, I think. A name like "Leliana" is, I suppose, more societally acceptable than a name like Eowen, despite one being from a video game and the other from a book.

Of course, I named both my boys after book characters, and I wouldn't exactly call their names common (Marius and Tobias), so sod society and name your kids what you want.

And congratulations to the OP! ^_^

Seriously, even though the idea might come from a video game, the name is no less very appealing. I bet you could convience any wife to call her daughter Leliana if she didn't know about the game.

Congrats and best of luck.

Geez, people, it's not like he named his kid "Kratos" or "Master Chief".

Leliana is a lovely name. Congratulations!

At first I thought this was pretty creepy and messed up... naming your kid after a videogame character?

But then I read you two met because of bioware... and suddenly its not creepy! It makes sense and is kinda romantic *lol albiet in a geeky way*!

Anyways congrats, dorky or not, it is a pretty name. Just don't name your son Sten!

In Quebec, it's an old name. Not very used anymore, but still :)

Really? Odd-- we couldn't find any references other than a Hawaiian name which was close.

Even so, congrats to the OP. There was a fellow at PAX who showed me pictures of his twin girls, who they named Leliana and Morrigan. I thought that was delightful (after he confirmed it was his wife's idea, that is). Thing is, in 20 years once they're grown up the fact that the names came from a video game will be kind of irrelevant.

Yes, take a look at this list of old Quebecers name starting by ''L'', some are pretty funny!
Edit: it's written Léliana though

Congrats!

As fo me I really really loved the name Zevran, but then again it would be kind of awkward telling your kid that he was named by a bisexual elven assasin from a video game :-)
