Ok so I've been brain storming on how I can do something different for my canon playthrough and I've came up with this....

1. I'm going to be a Male Human Noble Rogue, my reason for him being a rogue is because he's the second child and I'm pretty sure that Fergus is the son that was planned to be the new Teryn, so Bryce had his second child origanally to be a scholar and trained him to fight but not like a warrior. As a child Malcolm (that's going to be his name) was very curious and learned how to unlock doors and build traps. I'm also thinking about giving him a tattoo but I'm not exactly sure about it but if I do the reason would be that he got it because he discovered his families barbaric routes..... not quite sure about it though, finally his dog's name is going to be Hohaku because of the story that his Nan told him as a kid :)

2. I'm going to play him like a Robin Hood mixed with Aragorn type of character, making him a strengh based rogue

3. Since I'm a rogue I have the freedom to choose any party members I want to so that's not an issue.

4. I'm thinking about making him bisexual and romancing Zevran or maybe Morrigan to see what happens in Witch Hunt but I like Zevran more:whistle:

5. I'm prbly going to play through the main quests in this order: Origin, Ostagar/Lothering, Magi Tower, Redcliffe, Haven, Brecillian Forest, Orzamar, Final Battle

6.. I'm going to do the Ritual for this playthrough because the whole idea about a tainted god child is awesome!

Thoughts??

Hi Junior Blitz,

I really like your ideas here, so much so I went back to read your other post at Need some help with starting a new game to see how it developed.  I recently completed a similar playthrough, but in all honesty, IMHO your ideas are better (I ended up with Human Noble Warrior and kind of regretted it).

Re: your 1st point

On being a Rogue, his "2nd son" status is a great starting point.  Unlike his elder brother the dutiful heir apparent (who was groomed to be a traditional Warrior-Champion), Malcolm seems more like a fun-loving rascal (acquiring the skills of a Rogue through his hedonistic misadventures).  I noticed you were trying to compromise being a Noble and a Rogue in your previous thread, where people suggested that he was mixing with commoners and slumming with cutpurses, rebelling against his heritage, which is a good idea.

I just want to offer an alternate concept...that he is a debonair Don Juan aristocrat that'd romance other noblewomen and their handmaidens.  Along the way, he picked up a lot of Rogue skills...like to Sneak to their rooms at night, Lockpick doors or windows to escape if their fathers/husbands/lords came by, Pickpocket his scandalous love letters that got intercepted, etc.  You get a lot of RP-cues for that in the Human Noble origin (your mother's noblewoman friend flirted with you, you can seduce her handmaiden, etc.)  You'd also get a few 1-night stands along the way (Isabella who'll teach you to be a Duelist and a Dalish elf girl), so lots of RP-cues.

Trap-setting I found to be more trouble than their worth in-game, plus they're less relevant than the other Rogue activities in the above scenario.  Malcom sounds like he's more concerned about disabling traps, which is actually based on the Deft Hands skill that's also used for Lockpicking (humble reminder).

Naming Dog Hohaku is a great idea, that's all I wanted to say.

Re: your 2nd point

A strength-based Rogue like you suggested with longswords actually makes sense.  You get a RP-cue during a Camp conversation about how you picked up fighting from your father, and Alistair's like "that makes sense."  I don't know how effective it is in-game, though.  And, of course, you get to use Arl Howe's special axe after you exact vengeance.

Re: your 5th point

I suggest breaking Redcliffe and Haven apart with Brecilian Forest in the middle (i.e. Redcliffe --> Brecilian Forest --> Haven).  The main reason is that the game difficulty scaling is easier that way.  The RP reason is that, to go from Redcliffe to Haven for the Ashes questline, you need to travel to Denerim anyway...passing the Brecilian Forest along the way.

---

Basically, I'm just supporting your ideas based on RP-cues I noticed along the way when I went through a similar playthrough from a Human Noble perspective.  I did not notice them until I actually came up to those points, so I'm just FYI-ing you now.  There were many times when I wished I was a Rogue instead...it just fits better, so good luck with your playthrough!  It sounds great.
