Not on my first playthrough - but I definitely think a FemHawke Archer could be a definite second run.

Despite being a Sagittarius, I have abysmal bow skills. I'll probably skip archery in favor of flinging around fireballs and lightning bolts, etc. That or going stabbity-stab as a rogue and/or swinging around a giant sword as a warrior- anything but archery, lol.

Oh, I certainly used archery on things like the broodmother, but yeah, I really tried to avoid it unless it was absolutely necessary. I think I'll let Prince Sebastian handle the archery - hehe. :P

I would like to. I agree, they were very underwhelming in DA but in Awakening they were ridiculously powerful. With Aim and Accuracy, my Archer had around 70% crit chance. That didn't include the other ridiculous talents they get in that tree...

Thats kinda funny... because had you activated Accuracy first and then Aim... your crit chance should have easily hit over 100% in fact it's not uncommon to have 150%+ crit chance (doesn't really matter after 100%)

I am giving serious thought to playing an archer instead of a mage on my playthrough. I like mages and all, but there is something about archery that has always appealed to me. I try it eventually in every game I play. I can only hope DA2 balanced talents better. It got boring being limited to a few trick shots every battle before running out of stamina. Autoattacking constantly gets dull fast. I also hope specializations are better suited to archery than before. I will still miss my beloved bard, though. :/

Thanks to this thread, I am reminded that my best NWN characters were archers (ranger bard arcane warrior)... Maybe I will play again as one : a bard archer is definietly something I'd like to try.

edit : but there seems to be no more bards so I may still change my mind.

I've given it some thought and probably will have an archer run, but definitely not my first playthrough.

I'm too interested in the rogue's new dual wielding style (I happen to like acrobatic, agile warriors for my main characters) plus the mage being revamped as well as the staple warriors (tanks are fun too), there's just simply too much going for the other classes and styles that I can't see in an archer rogue as of yet. Plus, we have two archer rogues in there already (Varric and Sebastian), so to me what would be the point?

I'm going to have to be enticed to try out an archer...if there are finishers for archers like there are for the other weapon styles (including mages!), then maybe. As is probably not...at least until my 4th or 5th run.

I found archry weak in da1 but i decided to go for it on my first playthrough of da2 see if its been improved.

I never even beat da1 with archer.

I agree with you though I did manage to take a couple of my archer characters through to the end. I'm glad to hear from the devs that they've improved the archery abilities because I'm looking forward to having my first character be an archer. :)

Definitely going Archer for my first playthrough just like I did with Origins. Should be fun.

If archery is as convoluted and unenjoyable as it was in DA:O, then no. If it's as dynamic and useful as it is in games like Guild Wars, then sure. I'll see what Varric can do before I make my decision. An archer isn't likely to be my first playthrough.
