That's 2 outfits. The armour is the same in the last three images, with the only differences being a palette swap and a scarf added.

that's incorrect, there's also the difference in the form of the pauldrons and the chest piece is very different to the other.

Yeah, my mistake. 3 outfits then! 2nd and 4th pic are the same armour.

not the same armor, same model different textures(not just a color swap). there's a difference

like the difference between these:

I'm ok with this because most of the high end armours and robes where not all that impressive looking. Worst was especially the light armours that all shared the same dull colour. At least the warriors got a somewhat good variation but mostly because of the DLC and Awakening.

The only mage that really stood out as well in the game was Morrigan in her robe that was unique to her. It really gave the character a lot more individuality so I support each party-member having their own style.

I'm a big fan of this idea. In Mass Effect 1, you could change team mates clothing, but it all looked very similar and generic.

By giving each character a specialised outfit, they're that much more vibrant and interesting.

If people are going to count multiple outfits that are recolors and slight modifications as all one outfit, then DAO only had like six outfits in the whole game. So, again, by the complainer's standard, not mine, DA2 has DAO beat in the appearance diversity department.

I don't see why we can't have the unique outfits but be able to equip other stuff as well, like Morrigan's robe in DA:O. I'm sure I'm not the first to suggest this. I guess it's because of the different character models? But why not make those a feature of the outfits? Will we be able to see that Aveline is a bit bulkier when she's wearing heavy plate anyway?

This is one of two concerns about DA2, the other being the anime-like slashes of the weapons.

Pretty sure the technical/resources reason is they'd have to make a version of every single armor in the game for every body type and animation, which means probably about five times less appearances overall. A possible story/artistic reason could be because they are individual companions and not you. I don't change the outfits of my coworkers, nor do I even change the outfits of other players when playing a tabletop RPG. Aveline would wear her platemail uniform after she becomes a member of the Kirkwall guard, and wouldn't change into Isabella's outfit just because Hawke tells her to. The outfits they wear are the outfits that best fit their personality, role, and combat style. Hawke is you, however, and you'll have full customization.

I see our companions have unique models, etc, etc, it makes sense, but yeah, at least we could have five or six armor sets for them to choose from.

The universe likes diversity.

either i'm blind or i'm seeing 4 different outfits for 1 character:devil:

Since the screenshots are taken across multiple game builds i wouldn't take all these for granted in the final version. You can see lot of changes to the armours worn in the same parts of the game if you look few months back and compare to what is shown now.

True, but the devs have said some characters change in appearance over the years.

You're probably right. I just think a lot of people see it either as DA:O or ME2, and no middle ground.

Anyway, this system could work if there's enough variety in the outfits and a good selection for each character. My ideal system would be if you looted or bought them. Like, for example, you find a set of light dwarven armour in an abandoned thaig that Varric could wear, or a set of templar plate that is equippable on Aveline. Like a whole set of Morrigan-type outfits for each character. I also can't see the reason why we can't equip gloves and boots, even if you can't see them on the paper doll. Again, like Morrigan's robes or the rest of the mage robes.

I'm sure many kittens have just been kicked through windows, but a man can dream.

Yes, Aveline in particular was pretty much confirmed by her writer to obtain some armour down the road so that's two outfits for her, maybe more. As far as other characters go, we don't really know.

I'm a logical person. Your a King, you should be able to buy the best ****... (wrong) so there isn't going to be any legendary armour that none of the now backwards countries (all of them accept the Trivinter Empire...slavery is bad but they understand that mages are the next step in evolution) can make? how much have they nerfed mages?....... This is going to be like how Adepts are nerfed in ME2... first they take your clothes, then they charge you money for one of two more outfits that should have been part of the original game or atleast should be free!

I'm not bothered if my companions have one armor. I'm just happy I can still change my own.

The idea i've seen many people say that "it doesn't make sense for a person to wear one or two outfits for 10 years!" seems rather poorly thought out to me. If you think about it, the framed narrative mechanic means we are playing basically the aspects of Hawke's story where something important happens. keeping that in mind, if Hawke and his companions are setting out to go complete some potentially dangerous task, of course their going to toss on their armor first. it's not like it's the only outfit they wear every day of their lives. in what is, essentially, a middle age setting, if you own a set of armor that is battle proven and suits you well, why on earth would you need to go around buying other sets just because they look different? armor is not fashion. to me, it makes sense that they'd stick with a set of armor that they know and trust, changing only when necessary.

note that this doesn't apply to Isabela. i like her look personally, but i agree that it's in no way appropriate for combat situations. interesting point someone made a couple pages ago about the Romans conquering much of the world without pants though lol.

True. And before Marius their first line was formed by soldier without good armor. Only the nobles and knights classes got proper armor (for the time) before Marius.

It would also be interesting to know how many Roman warriors got gangrene from infected leg wounds.  Image IPB

Because BioWare hates role-playing. And games. And you.

They did it with Mass Effect, basically ignored everything good from the original.

There was nothing good about the inventory system in Mass Effect 1 and the combat sucked compared to ME 2.

Party members only have one clothing...

No. Most party members have more than one set of armor/clothing.

Leg wound or a Damaged back are your choices when it comes to armor.

There's a reason why plate was scrapped after about 100 years of use for clothes, It takes hours to put on, It's impossible to move freely in, and really if you get hit with a sword to the chest armor won't be that much help.

this is something that really annoys me. I like customizing the party, and it makes the game longer. It's not that I don't appretiate unique looks, surely they'll be more elaborated, but I appreciate even more looking like the rest of the population. I hate that "you are special" thing.

Another thing, speaking about clothes, I hope this time Hawke has access to all the "normal" clothes in the game, the ones the NPCs wear. I always wanted to dress my wardens with noble clothes but only managed to get them in one playthrough. Something that so many people are wearing should be available at shops.

I don't think your honestly losing that many options, if any.
You only had what 4 diffrent Armor Designs(and 20 recolorings)  and depending on the class you were only really encouraged to wear 2?
