I wish to know the extent to which the companions outfit can be upgraded. I mean if we can put different stats on them that could add up to stats on the armors in origins then I don't see a problem with it. All speculation on my part though.

You can put runes in them. You can also change their amulets, belts, and rings. The weapons you can change out for others of the same sort.

Aveline will be rocking Fadeshear and the Lion Shield of Orlais in my first playthrough.

If I'm not mistaken you can put runes in their shoes, gloves, etc.

But let's not forget how unlucky they were at avoiding combat. If that one thing in the Deep Roads didn't happen, they'd have been screwed. I have left the explanation vague to avoid spoilers hehe.

I'm just sayin', does anyone remember the female light armor in DA:O? I do, and it wasn't exactly dedicated to protecting the flesh. So Isabella's lack of armor is just her being pragmatic I say.

light padded jacket, a wide-brimmed hat, and a blade-catching cape, considering she calls herself "duelist".

Isabela's upgrade armor must be a Red Mage one!

Refia is ready do look cute and Firaga you to death.

I was looking more for an Alatriste vibe, myself.

No, a Dev said that party members having more than one set of armor/clothing was "the exception, not the rule"

Personally, I'm fine with the change.

So far, we've only seen Aveline and the siblings change looks, as far as companions go. Then again, so far there's not been that much information revealed.

I'm going to comment to every sing;e thread about this change saying that I enjoy it.

Morrigan was the only character in DA:O who looked distinct. I like characters having interesting clothing that suit their designs, and unique body models that suit their personalities and faces. I like it about a million times more than the "option" to put a rogue in one of 50 near-identical hideous leather skirts.

I personally think the coolest thing, which most likely won't be in the game, or in any game for that matter lol. Would be that whenever your party is chilling in camp or wherever the rest place is, they switch to casual outfits. A small touch, but would be awesome to see for me. One day...T_T

Although I would prefer to have choice regarding armor for all companions, I like that each companion appears to have a different body. I didn't like how BW handled the body models in DA:O.

There was nothing good about the inventory system in Mass Effect 1 and the combat sucked compared to ME 2.

The only thing ME2 had over ME1 was the combat.  ME1 had the better story and the lack of loot/inventory took away the instant gratification that we get from defeating enemies, which made many of the fights in ME2 tedious.  The mission based storyline took away from the role-playing and the mission screen broke up the smoothness of the story more than any loading screen ever does.  ME2 is living off the hype from ME1.  I fear for ME3.

I personally like the inventory, and I like choosing what my characters wear.  The armor changing when a new suit is put on is always a plus to a game.  I just always thought it was ridiculous in games when you would put on some heavy armor on a character and they are still wearing street clothes, or the women are still half dressed.  It seems to me that when Bioware deviates from their formula their games lose what many of us love so much about them.  Like the companion conversation system in Awakening....shutters.

Anyway, I can't wait to play DA2 but I have no illusions about it.  I am trying really hard to not compare it to my beloved DAO, or any other Bioware game for that matter, and just accept it as its own game.

I'd rather have Isabela switch to combat outfit, myself.
I should add Varric on the statement above as well, but he gets a pass on the basis of being awesome byway of dwarfiness.

@Aynslie ~ But this is the advantage that books and movies will have over videogames until someone decides to do something about it. The character is simply not wearing the armor you put on them if you look at it logically. Do you honestly think Leliana was wearing that midriff exposing leather armor when you went to retrieve the Urn of Sacred Ashes? Heck no, she was definitely rockin' a cloak and possibly some kind of armor with a furn lining. Again I say...One day...T_T

@Xewaka ~ And I say Isabella's wearing what is appropriate for her flippy jumpy combat style. And while I think it would actually be kinda cool for her to wear copious amounts of leather myes, it is still a pretty restricting thing.

I actually think this is a good idea, as I have since it was unvelied in the podcast a few months back. No longer can I fit the Legion of the Dead armor onto Sten, nor can I remove a suit of armor from Zevran and have it fit perfectly onto Alistair. They're not quite the same height.
This way, everyone has one type of armor, and that armor is sized perfectly for them. I like it.

But not all of them actually have armor.  Image IPB

Okay, not armor, outfits. Clothes. Dresses. Robes. Garments.
Take your pick.Image IPB

Yea, I was being literal.  Image IPB

Isabela does bother me though.  Yea yea, tell me she's a duelist - her whole thing is based on not being hit.  Fine.  A duel is one on one.  There, perhaps it makes sense.  To go off looking for a fight against multiple opponents in her dress - or blouse and skirt or whatever the hell she wears - is beyond words dumb.  I know this is a game, and yes, I know there are reality-suspending issues everywhere.  But this one is just way too glaring for me to ignore.  No, it's not game-breaking, and no, I'm not going into "I'll never buy this stupid game" mode.  But it really makes me not like the character to start with.

A simple leather vest, leather pants - I'd be fine with that.  The way it is now - sorry.  She has no credibility to me as a fighting character.

No, that's not what was said.

I think so, and I think the followers' look is something that helps them stand out and occupy a space, but as they progress--and actually, it's worth noting that we're covering a ten-year history here--the followers' armor will progress on its own as well. Between periods of time or as they progress they will actually grow stronger, they'll keep up, they're not going to be in the same stuff they were wearing at level 1. They'll do their own upgrades offline. But everything that you slot in there or upgrade or purchase or find or whatever will [persist] all the way through, and like you said, become this legacy item.

We? I found that the pellets of rat chow you get after ME1 combat don't make the combat any more enjoyable

Maybe it's because I come into RPGs from PnP, but the mission compete screen works just fine for me. GM: "OK, you've won; you're headed back to the ship, right? Here are the XP awards."

Of course...Does the restricting armor thing even apply here? I mean, I know heavy armor puts a penalty on fatigue, but in the DA universe dudes are shootin' shockwaves out of their swords and have daggers the size of small children.

@Maria ~ Ooo, then I wonder if there's a possiblity their armor choices change depending on how they feel about Hawke, like, their rivalry/friendship thingy.

Though I wish we had more say in what companions wear at least it will be different and stand out a bit (one hopes). The one good thing that kept me going through many a DAO preview were mods for extra clothing and changing the other to random colors! :)

To me it seemed like there was only one set of leather, cloth (besides morrigan's robes), and medium armor in da 1. Plate is the only one that had real variety.

I don't mind this change at all, it would be cool to get a second set of armor for each character for doing their personal quest or something though, similar to me2.

Sweet god quoted for truth. There was really not a single attractive armor set among the generic choices in Dragon Age.
