I'm all for a Garrus' family assignment in ME3. As for those who are whining about why we'd waste time on squadmates--why did we waste time investigating random geth attacks, huskified colonies, Cerberus operations, etc. in ME1? It was a race against time!
Face it, ME3 will have side-quests like any other RPG. If BW doesn't make it compulsory, or at least ties it in with the plot (it could be triggered when we go to Palaven, for example), people will take it better.
One thing that I hope they focus on in ME3 is Garrus' family

As much as I like Garrus, we've dealt with enough family and daddy issues in ME2. He's just one of many squadmates and the way I see it ME3 should be focused on stopping the Reapers. Sure, there will be side quests, but I'd prefer it if they were somehow tied into the main war effort.

O hai, I see you finally returned from having fallen off the face of the BSN.
As for that idea, the problem is, calibrations are now a deeply-rooted core element of Garrus's character. Therefore, calibrations would have to be tied in to the family conversation. Like, say, he can talk about calibrating with his sister... wait. That idea just went somewhere horrible.
That idea... implications unpleasant.
