so is this good or bad?Pwnsaur wrote...
Here is a comment to the CVG article I found particularly good. It addresses my concerns and also acknowledges the improvements. It may come off as negative but I read it more in a descriptive manner. Anyways, here:
"Because the comments, about RPG purists are very strong, one should reflect on the benefits of being spoon- fed in games.
Looks like the targeted gamer enjoys little paths, stars, and AI''s like a certain one in ME2 telling them complex things like :"This is the Comm room."
After the events of ME2, the same thing is happening to DA2.
-companions having fixed outfits, no visual change. Only rings, belts , and necklaces can be equipped.
-removal of dual wielding warriors, rogues only using daggers, companions having a fixed class.
-removal of friendly fire until nightmare difficulty.
-less skills and spells.
-dialogue wheel that will fully benefit from the ME2 paraphrasing system, the on where your Shepard tend to say things that are no where written.
-the amazing addition of 2 siblings that are assigned to you based on your class.
mages get the male, rogues and warrior the female sibling which is a mage.
-game is shorter
-voiced protagonist requiring more funds, so less dialogue lines
-removal of Origins stories, and race choices.
-Facebook tie in to unlock more in game goodies, because EA has a 5 year deal with them.
-PC version being a parallel release, just like ME2, that game that had low res textures for armors on PC, and no option for high res in the menu, the same menu one had to enter to read the Codex, but who is doing that any way.
-removal of iso-camera
-removal of Arcane Warrior.
Based on this excellent article, and the already confirmed things above, I just had a revelation that nothing, absolutely nothing that made me buy and enjoy the first game is present.
The import feature for saves was reduced to EA's battle with re-sales, and has nothing but cosmetic relevance.
So,it's time to move on, 2011 will be the year of RPG's, some of them even for those that don't need little stars and paths to guide them.
The combat looks improved in DA2, the clunky parts are gone, no one would dare to question things like Darkspawn exploding from a fire spell."

Don't want to be rude, but reviewers pushes their asses into BioWare's side and are ready to be ****ed without lubricant [sorre, if I offended some ghay people here - not intended]. Was the DA:O sooooo horrible?! Really?! And praising new things with saliva bubbles on lips is soound pretty unobjective. I am not against new things, but those can't be called pre[re]views.

I really hate it when video game journalists (or devs being interviewed) bash DA:O in an attempt to make DA2 look better. It actually turns me off, rather than makes me more interested, especially when they get facts completely wrong, like the above concerning rogues. Either they didn't play a rogue, or they didn't know how to play one effectively...either way, they shouldn't be in the position of judging the class.
I agree.
When they say DAO was sucky, rogues were weak or Sten is boring I lose all respect. In reviewers case the preview/review itself becomes invalid to me. If they didn't play dao (really play not a speed run review) they should not be allowed to say anything. imho

That said, I have to admit that I'm drooling over the descriptions of the new stuff they're offering rogues in DA2... Yeah, pretty much guaranteed to take a rogue Hawke first time out... especially since, if I were to take a mage, I'd miss out on Bethany, and... well, maybe it's just that I've read more about her than Carver, but she certainly helps sell me on once again breaking with my usual playstyle. Also. Merril. Bah. Too many nice mages; what can a guy do?

Sometimes these previews leave me perplexed.
Like the comment on the graphics. Ok, sure, I guess I could see their point about the world being drab and brown (in short, DAO had a believable colour palette), but to complain about the GUI design? Now I find that surprising.
That's not to say DA2's isn't better, I wouldn't be surprised if it is... but DAO's GUI was excellent, both classical in appearance yet loaded with tons of modern improvements (for example, the drop down to see what other party members are wearing while shopping).

B: Why this forum thinks the new graphics are ugly, Origins had dated graphics, that is pretty much undeniable, it was a great game don't get me wrong but it did look older that Mass Effect 1, The new Graphics are a major step up yet people are acting like they are looking at KOTOR 1 or something.

May I'm just so un-hip that it flew right by me, but DA's setting didn't feel "camp" to me.
Haha, it's funny you mention that, because that was the line I focused on too. I certainly didn't feel like Thedas was campy in any way-- in fact it felt like the writing team went out of their way to take the camp out of the setting. It's definitely something I appreciated, having been in the camp-heavy Forgotten Realms setting for so long. Unless the previewer feels having elves and dwarves in a fantasy setting automatically constitutes as camp, or the story narrative as a whole was campy, I'm at a loss.
(Unless I missed the Carmen Miranda NPC in the corner. I probably did.)
Two Things I don't get A: Why reviewers have a hate on For Origins,
Origins was good, the reviews were good, even the console port was
generally judged well.
I think it's a case of improvement. Origins feels great, but when presented with a system that's been based on improvements to the former, the flaws become apparent. Final Fantasy 7 was a great game when it came out, but I'm sure if you played it now there would be some things that feel clunky.

I hate seeing that too. It's one thing to say the new game has improvements but quite another to say DAO graphics sucked and environments were the colour of ****. It makes me wonder what DA3 previews will be like: "Oh yeah DA2 sucked bigtime and the framed narrative was a complete kick in the dark but DA3 will totally rock"

Not perfect graphics, not earth shattering graphics, not picturesque graphics, but damn good graphics!
