I think i'm think i'm going to get this...when it hits the bargain bin. Lack of character customisation really killed it for me. I want an RPG not an action game being passed off as one...like ME or something.

You do know that you can fully customize your character right? Probobly even more so then DA:O.

They stripped much of it out, it's going to be like Assassin's Creed or Witcher or something along those lines where you have a set character and little replay value. They should have just put this out as a novel instead but then they wouldn't be able to get as much money out of people.

Uh, not exactly. The main character has changed and now has a last name and a dedicated family instead of just an ambiguos tittle. You can only play as a human but you can customize your character better then you could in DA:O. So I'm not exactly sure were your getting your information from, but this game is most defenitly not like AC or The Witcher.

Yep, they've made character creation and background just like BG2, except that we'll have more visual variety for our characters. What an atrocity.

It will be because you have a set character and looks like it's nearly linearized. Just give us the authors scripts and let us read that. :D I think that's one of the main issue with games these day, too many freaking writers and not enough people that want to make actual games where people can flesh out their own characters...especially so in a fantasy genre where there are multiple races around. Of course the other issue with modern game companies is greed but that's for another topic I guess.

Like I said, no more set than BG. Stop lying.

Edit: yes, I am ignoring races. Race in BG was a set of class restrictions and racial abilities. Whatever your race was, you grew up in a human settlement and only knew human culture.

And did you complain that you couldn't play as other races/characters in ME2?

I only played ME2 once, and didn't pay that much for it anyways so it was no big loss. DA2 will probably have about the same replay value as that....almost zilch, zero.

Ah, I see. Could I barrow your time traveling machine? I would dearly like to know what happens to me in the future.

Only not given how much actual difference there was between the 3 races in DAO ie. very little. The replay value is in the builds and the new characterisation options and the new character interaction system.

Money has always been the primary factor in whether any company lives or dies.

are you on drugs?
Every choice you make has a specific reaction which affects the rest of the game. so play it again, and pick different choices and you have a whole different ripple effect, different story. Also, pick a different class, and everything also changes. choose a different romance option, a bunch of things also change. pick different skills, different strategies, different difficulty levels everything is different. at least the classes changes the game completely, expecially going from warrior to mage. then again when you are a guy and a girl.

defense rests.

Must but be a rarity but I agree with Alan on this. In BG II they could add another 1000000 races on top of D&D races and it still wouldn't matter that much. BG II's protagonist is silent so having any race does not requite too much additional effort from their part.

While I'm not too excited about DA2 for different reasons, things are simple, a VOd protagonist essentially means one race, elese they'd have to hire actors to VO human, human female, dwarf, dwarf female, elves, female elves, etc. Makes no sense to do this.

The real question is VOd or not VOd protagonist. *If* the VO is top quality, I'd much rather have a VOd protagonist than a silent one but again I understand that some people may have different preferences.

If race mattered then I'd care but it doesn't. There are a few toss away lines but nothing serious in DAO and in BG2 it doesn't matter at all. Hell, they can't even do something small like make armor only fit one race let alone create depth and meaning to it.

People act like a "fixed" character is all new as if:
BG1/BG2 Bhallspawn wasn't set
FO/FO2/FO/FNV weren't all fixed back grounds of vault dwellers/courier
JE is a fixed background of the Spirit Warrior
KoTOR is a fixed background of, well you know.
Planescape is a fixed background for the Namelsss One.
ME1 you can pick your "origin" but you never play it and it has one "thing" in the game that relates to i.

Hell in 8 of the 10 games listed you can't pick variable races even though in all of them there are other races in the world...and if that list of games doesn't cover most of your top RPGs in the last 15 years you've got issues.

What's wrong with beards? They tickle in all the right places, you know.

just commenting on the preview, not the debate of people trying to argue that ME2 wasnt a third person shooter (next youll think ModernWarfare series is an RPG)

im gonna check out these previews. i just hope they arent pregenerated garbage articles the press puts out , without any actual impressions of having the game on hand
EDIT: looks like both those articles were toilet paper at best, they mentioned like 2 things , the combat is easier and plays like a hack and slash. we already knew those things,

why do they let people like this write articles? i would have went in depth on the dialog system, rpg elements, and said the stuff that really mattered like how AI is handled this time around
