Mage is pretty much easy mode.

Rogue is fun mode.

Warrior is "revert to Mage or Rogue soon" mode.

Rouge is hella fun.

Warrior.. I can't say. I loved being a warrior in DA:O cause it had its advantages sometimes. I'd have to think about this one.

Mage; I personally don't really like mages. I guess its because I don't have that touch with them.

Warrior

My main characters in DAO and DA2 are both two handed warriors.

I tried every class, and for my first, canon, serious, "this IS Dragon Age" playthrough I could play nothing but the sword and shield warrior. Which was what I planned to use anyway, so lucky me. Mage was no fun at all, and melee rogue neither.

i had an idea a while back, how about a different class system for the main character? The character would have innate magic abilities but the player can choose whether to become a warrior, rogue or keep honing his/her magic abilities. With a limited number of points someone can customize the character however they want without becoming an ace of all trades (through legitimate means anyway). With this system i have in mind someone could be a pure warrior, mage, rogue, a hybrid or a jack of all trades. For party members to keep their individuality they can have specific skill trees adapted to them like tallis and the other da2 party members.

You did know the lego bricks post-patch trigger on a critical hit right? So lego bricks still happen?

That's true in my case. People tell me it's not like that anymore, but it was for my two playthroughs, and it's how I remember the experience. And I'm still not convinced the permanently exploding enemies were some kind of bug and not a wanted feature...

edit: forgot the bolded word

Yes, but not as often, so it isn't 'poking'. Dragon Age 2 is hardly the first game to show exploding enemy on critical finishers, by the way.

"Other games did it" is no reason for DA2 to do it excessively. Or maybe it is, but that depends on how seriously Bioware wants their universe and game to be taken.

I'm not arguing against the notion that the animations, especially when compared to DA:O, are over the top. But exploding bodies not only have been toned down already, but they were already here as early as the IE games - BioWare's roots. So I simply don't get what's the fuss all about.

Mage: Kicks ass.
Warrior: Kicks ass.
Rogue: Kicks ass, picks locks and disarms traps.

Rogue is the best.

No it's not. But it definitely does it pretty badly. Let's just make a comparison:

Gears of War:

DA2:

DA2's just looks really lame, and even if you think something as outrageous as a chainsaw bayonet is lame, at least the gore looks much better. Plus I have no problem with the lego bricks in GoW because the guys are getting shredded to pieces by chainguns, blown to pieces with a grenade launcher or getting chainsawed, whereas in DA2's you're just getting tapped or slashed (and if a slash results in limbs getting cut off, it should be a clean cut where the sword travelled, not absolutely everything just falling apart.

^ This. Played a mage in my first playthrough and it was cool. Liked how being a mage tied into some of the conversations, but as others said, it bugs the living hell out of me that nobody is suspicious or even realizes that Hawke is a mage. That said, I by Hawke being able to beat the antagonist of legacy more as a Mage than the other classes.

Playing a Rogue now for the first time, and it is crazy fun. The class actually fits my Hawkes "personality and character development" more.

Warrior is dull.

The reason why I like the (sword&shield) warrior most is that he is not as completely over top in his combat animations as the melee rogue, and not as disconnected from the world he's in due to gameplay as the mage.

So, dull ftw! Image IPB

Would depend on who's in your team, with Dragon Age Origins I usually played a warrior with 2 mages and thief in my group, though to be honest I always have Morrigan in my group, to bad they don't have arcane warrior.

#1 The Thief. (Monty Python... you know the skit!)

Ok seriously, I played the fighter the first time through, and thought I was pretty hot stuff swinging the 2H weapons. But OMG the thief is a whirling dervish of death. My wife flipped out when she saw "her" avatar (Yeah, I'm playing my wife as the Hawke) split a Grimlock in 4! What's more... she loved it! You see why I married the woman?!?<3

I'm sure the Mage is impressivem but I'm just a scrapper at heart. I need to wade intp the fracus and spill blood personally.

Couldn't agree more. How incredibly horrible the templars must be at their jobs when they can't detect a mage performing magic. Right in front of them. Did it come to anyone as a surprise that Meredith knew?

Personally I love the mage story-line (and the ability to hit more than one target at the same time with awesome damage), it adds a bit more to the story in my opinion. Only the whole non-suspicious attitude even when I'm purposely provoking the templars somewhat ruined it. The whole Carver-rivalry thing and the personal involvement while trying to keep the peace really add something extra to the story. It's a lot easier to remain neutral when you're not one of the parties involved. Kind of like the Behlen/Harrowmont choice in DAO. It's hard to pick Behlen when you're a dwarven noble because the situation involves you directly.

I first played with a roque (loved the class in DAO), awesome class just because of the teleportation skills alone. And the disarming/lock-picking. It's frustrating to run into a locked chest without one rogue available. I haven't played with the warrior-class yet, somehow it seems boring in comparison to the other two classes.

I found the fighter to be way too nerfed and the rogue to be do lots of damage, but to only one target at a time, when the game loves to throw mob after mob at you.

My pick is mage. Bang 'em up, blow 'em up, then have my party clean up afterwards.

Even funner is siding with the Templars when your character is a Mage! The icing is becoming...
