I first played a mage, then a rogue in DA:O. But during both, I loved spec-ing my Oghren to full Zweihander Berserker warrior. Then I thought, why not try warrior in DA2? I did the first few hours as a 2-Hander, then respecced to tanking, and.....

....here's what happened....

I made a mess! >.<

You can do that too as a mage!

Mage...

...though I could use a staff-fighting talent tree. Hey, I figure the avid bow practitioner gets an archery tree...and so on and so forth...why would a mage not learn more advanced fighting techniques with their weapon of choice?

Agreed! And as for specilizations, Go Force mage for sure...so fun. I added Blood second and it worked out really well for me. I love how in this game you actually injure yourself (I.E. Stab yourself with your staff to draw blood) when casting blood magic spells! Its great!

I've had the most fun as a two handed warrior myself, I'm not sure if it's the best... but you eat groups for breakfast. Sure you can do the same as a mage, but, it's fun being right their amongst a horde of enemies.

Yep thats what I did. But I had to keep Anders around as a healer. If you don't want to do this, then I would suggest going Force Mage and Spirit Healer for the versatility. But I wanted to just be straight up "how much damage and hurt can I do." So I went Force/Blood and maxed out the Primal tree and Elemental. Put a couple of points in Arcane just to be able to get Crushing Prison (aka my favorite mage spell since DA:O)

mages rule beyond doubt...rogues are good but die easly...warriors only tank...mages can heal, damage and support, warriors are for tanking in a party and rogues for nothing but locks, mages will(and have) always won against them

I prefer archery rogue to melee dual wielding rogue, coz even though melee rogue has faster attacks, only little damage is put out. Whereas, archery rogue deals a great damage and, can easily kill a melee target without letting it come near. And, archery rogue has huge advantage in killing bosses such as High dragon. umm humm? I love my archery rogue dealing over 4k critical easily using assassinate ability. xD Some lieutenants got killed after 2 or 3 shots from me.. isn't it awesome??

I will always play a mage.

First DAO playthrough, rogue.
Second playthrough, warrior.
Third playthrough, mage.
Fourth playthrough, mage.
Fifth playthrough, mage.

For some reason, DA mages are fantastic. I usually can't stand magic-based classes, but Dragon Age does a really good job of making them playable and fantastic. I'm not sure I could ever go back to warrior or rogue, though I admit I have yet to play either of them for DAII. Too hooked on mages.

For all the bashing I've done towards DA2, here I can't.

I like all three classes, and I personally prefer how they made them in DA2 over DA:O.

And I like how they solved it with companions, making them more narrow than Hawke.

True.  I remember in one of my DAO playthroughs I tried to make Alistair a duel weapon warrior, just because I could.

.........Bad idea.

You can't have played DA2 much - a two hander Reaver Vanguard Berserker does tons of damage.

Take Aveline and drop the defender/tank act and go Vanguard/offensive-sheild-and-sword with some warmongering or similar and she too will deal lots of damage.

& Rogues hardly die easily unless you have FF on in DA2, just get their dodge to 80% and get stealth.

It's not a horrible idea really, at least if you respec him - but then you need mods for that - there is less reason to, since shield is a bit overpowering compared to the other warrior talents - or rather it was the only one that was decent in DA:O (Mages and Rogues being better in almost everything).

In DA2, here's what I like:

Mage
Archery Rogue
S&S Warrior w/Shield Defense turned on

And here's what I don't:
DW Rogue
2H Warrior
S&S Warrior w/ Shield Defense turned off

Why that divide? The animations... the teleporting rogues, the ninja 2-handers, the speed-burst movement...

Hell, I'm tempted to move the mage into the bottom list because of the baton-girl dance moves.

In my oppinion, in terms of enjoyment, the Mage. I've never enjoyed playing one until Dragon Age II. I chose to specialize as a Force Mage and Spirit Healer. From a role play perspective, I could not go Blood Mage. The talents didn't interest me anyway.

I used Isabela and Fenris during combat sometimes. Fenris would twirl his sword and enemies exploded. Isabela stabbed them fast, disappeared into the shadows and stabbed multiple enemies. Death blows all around!

Most fun class: Mage
Most damaging class: dps rogue
Runner up for most fun class: Vanguard/Reaver or Vanguard/Berserker Warrior.
