I have to say, I'm not super-impressed with the way they've retold things.  Take the "angry and dangerous" Rachni Queen.  It doesn't explain why she was angry, leaves out the part where she's locked in chamber she can't escape, and then it completely gets the part about the insane Rachni wrong: she doesn't tell you they won't hurt you if you free her.  She says they wouldn't if they weren't already insane, but since they are, you should kill them so they're no longer suffering and a danger to others.  In the second part of the video, it says "She left and took her army of drones with her."  Uh, what?

They also make it out like you don't discover what indoctrination is until you talk to Saren on Virmire. No mention of the STG either.   Oh, and apparently, there were relays, plural, to dark space.  Yeah, that's right: they got the whole Citadel twist wrong.  Nice work.

Some other stuff left out:  Udina being an obstructionist jerk.  The Normandy lockdown after Virmire. RoboSaren. All of Feros. There's also zero explanation about the geth. They're just a name that gets dropped in unceremonioulsy here and there. The Protheans aren't explained either: nothing about them supposedly being the builders of the Citadel and the relays. No mention of Shepard being a Spectre candidate. Nihlus is turian non grata too. Background on the Rachni? Nope. They're just on Noveria (just the name is mentioned. Nothing else) for some reason. Therum: not a mention. You just apparently find Liara...somewhere.  Vigil...gone too.  He's just a Prothean databank in this version.

So choices:

1. Liara or Ash/Kaidan or The mission comes first
2. Save or Kill Queen
3. Save Wrex or Kill Wrex
4. Save Ash or Save Kaidan
5. Save Council or Sacrifice Council
6. Anderson or Udina

ETA:  My mistake. The Wrex choice is in there.  Fixed now.  I glanced away at just the wrong moment apparently.

Something something WELL IF YOU HATE IT SO MUCH DON'T PLAY IT.

Yeah, no response? That's what I thought!

Presumably they wanted to portray it in such a fashion that many people would opt to kill her. If they said something like "And the Rachni queen was locked in a cage, harmlessly, did Shepard drop a tank of acid on her? Y/N?" then presumably very few people pick that option.

I dunno.

Oh, and apparently, there were relays, plural, to dark space.  Yeah, that's right: they got the whole Citadel twist wrong.  Nice work.

Or maybe they got it really right. They had to get here in ME3 somehow

Save Ashley/Kaidan was determined by two distinct choices, remember? This must be it.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed with this too. Just seems so corny, rushed and incorrect.

I hate how Shepard describes Kaiden. He acts like he is some wet behind the ears kid. I'm pretty sure Kaiden is a year or two older than you, Shepard.

How 'bout: That left the Rachni Queen.  Right now, she was harmless, locked in a cage, at my mercy.  She claimed she wasn't hostile, had no interest in harming anyone. But was she just feeding me a story to save her own life?  I'd already dealt with the other Rachni, but the species had nearly overrun the galaxy before and if I let her go, all she needed was a little time to breed another, larger army.  It could be the Rachni Wars all over again, and the galaxy had barely survived the first time.  Save the Queen/Kill the Queen?"

No, I made a mistake.  The Wrex choice is in there.  The guy clicked it when I'd glanced away from the vid for a second.

Perfectly valid criticisms aside; the sound mixing is incredibly well done.

What the...?!
I thought this comic thingy was supposed to introduce the PS3-crowd to Mass Effect,
and they let half the stuff out and get the rest wrong?!

Seriously, relays to darkspace? Way to go to introduce even more plotholes...
I'll just „dismiss“ this thing right away. I'm even doing the fingerquotes right now. /rant

Meh, yet still better then nothing for those who're going to play it on the PS3, I guess...

Just noticed that they also said "... humanity's first seat on the council". Are we going to get more? It's just one per race!

And the other thing, if we take this comic as canonical, they made no mention of killing Sovereigns avatar leading to the barriers collapsing, and it just says that it took our "combined fleets, but Sovereign fell."

This bothered me the most. A lot of the other changes are, I guess, defendable, as they did need to keep things brief, but this is just a big plot hole and/or nasty retcon. Or if it was an oversight... well, if BioWare can't correctly remember big, significant details of the plot that they wrote, things aren't looking too good for ME3.

Also notice how on Eden Prime, it's just "an Alliance patrol" that gets attacked? Uh, no Interactive Backstory Comic, the entire colony was getting reamed by a geth assault force.

I don't think I saw the Geth mentioned by name in that comic? Or did I just miss it?

Is Anderson/Udina choice there too?

Yep. That might be fixed if the decision is made in Genesis though, as it's integrated with ME2.

They only did that because of the way the import save worked in ME1:  it made an autosave right before the choice, and then a final one after the credits.  If you skipped the credits, your Councilor choice was lost, so they added that question for those saves that didn't have it recorded.  It won't come up if the flag is present.

Seriously, that's atrocious. Of course, it is on par with the other ME comics. Great job Bioware!

Really? I never knew that. Always figured the one right after the final fight was the only one.

Yeah, I just realized they actually weren't mentioned.  You only see a couple here and there in the panels.

Oh, and I can't believe I didn't pick up on this:  not one word about the Conduit.

Liara, why are you running around in your scientist outfit?
And Liara, why has your scientist outfit shrunk about 4 sizes?

To retcon super hero outfits into ME1 so it doesn't seem out of place when you see them spammed all over the place in ME2, of course.

Yeah, a dev posted about it recently:

Jesse Houston wrote...

Actually this is not a bug. Instead, often, users select the save just prior to the one created after the credits. In the flow of ME1, you'll notice that Shepard steps out of the rubble, then we do an autosave. From there, we make you decide Anderson/Udena then after the Credits roll we do a final autosave. If you didn't watch the credits that choice will not have followed into the save you brought over.

Right, what's the point of giving the player a chance to retcon own choice in a span of half a game's hour?

Because retconning is what Mass Effect is all about now. Get up with the times.
