One more thing, then I'm done with this, at least for now. I see the word "retcon" being thrown around a lot, as if this replaces the events that happened in ME1, you know, the actual game, that let us see said events actually happen and take part in them. This better not be the case.

Ah yes, "PS3 comic" we have dismissed it's claims.

So let me get this straight; Bioware put out the "Mass Effect So Far" video that covered the beginning arrival of humanity, the Citadel, the Relays, Protheans, Sovereign & the Reapers, lightly touched on Shepard trying to stop them and more in a 3 minute video. But DH had all those problems with detail accuracy and others being omitted in a 15 minute video?
That is just plain SAD and what makes it worse is that BW actually greenlit the comic release....

The whole thing is not bad at all by a comic's standard. Dark Horse being one of my favorite studios and all. It's just ridiculous to expect that any of it could be remotely comparable to the monumental epic that is the original Mass Effect game.

I wasn't expecting anything comparable epic-wise to ME, but if that was good comic book 'quality' then that is truly sad. Seriously though, comics use such utterly cheesy and outright BAD dialogue like that now? The same goes for the less than decent (by my standards) artwork or the horrid attetion to the bare minimum of details??

Granted I haven't read a comic in about 5 years, but quality can't have declined *that* much!

Well, for its size and scope, it's done a decent job. It contained very little details, but I'd be pissed off if it does - I paid for ME1 after all! The dialogue quality is better than average. The artwork is not what we expected, but I guess it's just a difference in style (Ugly Liara? Every female in the comic is ugly! They just do ugly.). I like the portrayal of Udina a lot, but it is hilari-bad that Wrex is drawn to look like Palpatine.

I'm inclined to agree with you...depending on what section you're talking about of course.

Out of my raw experience with BW forums over the past years, I have found that most of us are at least ages 18 and over. I like to think at that age we can stop arguing about what platform (PC, 360, or PS3) is better.

Most can

Though I do hope things stay as civil as they've been for the duration of my stay :)

Either way, I will be here welcoming the newcomers to our community and telling them what really happened in ME1 ;)

well, if it hit a lot of details I'd have been shocked. To be honest I expected it to hit the points of Noveria (rachni queen, benezia) Liara, Wrex, Ash, Tali and Garrus, Feros (conduit), Virmire with STG and Ash/Kaiden choice, Ilos and CC. But I thought the artwork was downright ugly.

You really liked the dialogue...honestly? I thought it was terrible. It seemed to be overly cheesy and lecherous to boot and (to me) very cringe worthy. That and the dual-wielding Tali & Garrus made me think of John Woo when I saw it. After seeing the ME vid BW put out I had expectations of better than what DH put out. Maybe I'm too picky, but I do have high standards for something like this though. And hitting the important story points is one and the other is impressing a sense of scale is the other, to me this comic barely did the former and might lead someone about to play ME2 to have incorrect/bad expectations of what the game is about.

I really don't think we can call this retcon. ME3 will follow ME1, not that bullcrap comic.

Well, the dialogue is no more cheesy than what regularly appear in ME & ME2 dialogues. The reason that it might appear cheesier may simply be that it's a monologue. Monologue is a cheesy form of language. I like Shakespeare, so I like cheesy monologues.

I'm also a diehard John Woo fan, so I didn't even notice anything wrong about the dual-wielding. :DAnd comic books characters usually have a lot more powers than they do elsewhere - just consider what Batman can do in the comics, compared to what he does in the movies/games - comics are easier to draw, that's all.

I agree the artwork quality is deplorable compared to say, Redemption. But again, I never expected it to be much better than it actually is. You don't play ME1, you don't get the good stuff, simple as that.

btw Has anyone found a place to see the FemShep version of the comic yet?

Agreed, PCs are clearly superior to PS3 (at least they'll still run my OS tomorrow and come with more than 256MB RAM)

Maybe that is why it seemed to be more cheesy, and I love John Woo myself, it just seemed weird to see Tali dual wielding pistols while Garrus has twin AR's and is diving across.

I keep hearring about the FemShep version, but I've yet to see it :(

PS3er: So did Tali murder someone?
Veteran ME player: ...What?
PS3er: Well the comic said she was a fugitive...
Veteran ME player: *kills self*

I think we will have a lot of explaining when the PS3 people join up...

Unfortunately, this is very true.

Only if the PS3ers can't read.  The comic said Wrex's intel lead them to a "fugitive", which turns out to be Tali.  That doesn't necessary make Tali a fugitive literally, only that the intel stated she was.  I interpreted Shepard's statement as saying that "What we thought was a fugitive was actually this energetic Quarian."

My big complaint is the art.  Garrus and Wrex were both ugly as f*** and Garrus' dual-pistol Matrix-style dive against the Husks looks horrible.  He's practically at shoulder level with the husks, what is he, flying?!

It flat out says she's a fugitive, not that the intel only implies she's a fugitive.  The "turned out" part just tells you who that fugitive is.  It's not a qualifier of any sort, much less a contradiction. Really, the problem isn't even the use of that word: it's that they don't explain what she's fleeing. Namely, Saren.  And the way Shep pauses significantly before saying "procured", not to mention saying she's got "a knack for hacking" right before that, just reinforces the impression that she's done something rather shady and it just so happened to help incriminate Saren.

I actually quite liked Shepard in this comic. But then I've always been amused by him, and come to see his odd lines that occasionally make him look like a condescending eccentric douche as part of his pre-determined character, which I find endearing.

Also am I mad for liking the art, except for Palpatine Wrex who will likely become the latest in memes?

Where is Tommy Lee Jones when we need him...

"What I want out of each and everyone of you is a hard target search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, hen house, outhouse, and doghouse in that area. Your Fugitive's name is Tali'Zorah nar Rayya, go get her!" :D

Not bothered looking at the videos, going to watch it and judge when I get the game in my hands. Good to know that the choices were as we predicted though.
