The level cap is stuck at 30 (or 20) and there seems to be no way to get around it.

I have come up with a workaround that will basically double the level cap.

I created a new custom class, called "Fighter/Thief."  Every time you gain a level in "Fighter/Thief," you get basically all of the benefits of Fighter, and all of the benefits of Rogue (feats, attack bonus, saving throws, skill points, hit points, etc.).

So if you take a character in Fighter/Thief all the way to Level 30, you have essentially a level 60 character (the biggest difference is that no skills can exceed 33)

This isn't just a hypothetical idea, I've already made the "Fighter/Thief" class and it works.

I can repeat the process I used to create the "Fighter/Thief" class to make other classes . . .

Fighter/Cleric
Ranger/Druid
Wizard/Rogue
Wizard/Cleric
Barbarian/Ranger

At this point I have a few questions:

1 - What do you think?  Do level 31-60 characters have a place in NWN2?  Would you use these classes?

2 - I want to create a custom feat to raise the ECL when these classes level up, because without that a dual-class character gains levels too quickly.  Do you have any advice as to how I could do that?

While I am no fan of uber levels (I think 23--27 should be about it for any reasonable character progression in D&D, period, though that's just my own interesting point of view) I think this could be very interesting. Now all you have to do is be able to make fighter/thief/shadowdancer/harper agent (and the plethora of other up to 3 extra classes for all those PrCs and such) and it's companion variations and then figure out a way for the engine to know what character class your character is, how to add skills, feats and what not as you add more classes in from your starting character (I should think some form of destroy and recreate character option might be involved) so that, as a person progresses their character it can "grow" within your system.

It does, though, sound like it has some interesting possibilities for those that start off knowing they want an uber build with all 4 classes slots leveling up each level up event.

(PvP will never be the same...)

Instead of double-level classes, I could make so-called "gestalt" classes (where you get the best benefits of 2 classes whenever you level up, but they don't stack). Is there any interest in that?
