What do you think are good combinations of squadmates for each character build in ME2? Obviously this is influenced by the current mission and your playstyle. DIfficulty is hardcore/insanity. Here are a couple of my favourites:

For caster Sentinel:

Samara - Has very good abilities and acts as a pullbot for warp bombs. Access to assault rifle is a plus.
+
Grunt - Very resilient character overall and has squad inferno ammo.
=
Every character benefits from inferno ammo so you can strip enemies defences quickly for pull to be effective. A good team for nearly every mission.

Zaeed - Has squad disruptor ammo and good weapon loadout.
+
Garrus - Good weapons and overload.
=
An exellent team for geth missions. Squad disruptor ammo is almost unfair plus you and Garrus can just overload everything.

Please post your favourite squad combos here.

Garrus + Miranda against blue shielded mercs
- Garrus' Overload is the best in the game, invaluable on early NG+
- Garrus deals really good damage with the Incisor
- Miranda is versatile and provides good passive bonuses
- Warp bombs

Thane + Miranda against Collectors
- The best squad in the game IMHO, pretty much the same as the previous combo, but even more versatile

Grunt + whoever on Reaper IFF
Krogan bodycheck 1 and 2
I often use Grunt, because I really like krogans

Zaeed + Thane (+ Incisor SR) for the best weapon damage dealing squad
- This is my favourite squad when I play Assault Sentinel, these guys rarely die and do not require any commanding at all

Defense stripper + Mordin
- Cryo Blast every 3.6 seconds :D

I often randomly pick my squad, but I rarely, if ever, use Kasumi, Tali, Jack and Jacob.

For ME 1 Soldier:

Kaidan + Tali (especially good in Bring down the Sky)

Kaidan + Garrus (in the begenning, Kaidan is the only decent biotic and an excellent support characther)

Kaidan + Liara (their biotics are really effective against the rachni on Noveria)

Liara + Tali (Tali against the geth, Liara against the thorian creepers; shotgun recommended)

Liara + Garrus (epic in endgame)

For ME 2 Soldier:

Garrus + Miranda (against mechs and mercs)

Miranda + Thane (against collectorts, krogans, vorchas)

Garrus + Kasumi (against geth on Haeström)

Miranda + Zaeed (on Horizon)

Tali + Samara (in Overlord)

Garrus + Thane; Liara + Garrus (in Lair of the Shadow Broker)

When I really want to get stuff done on my Infiltrator, I bring the following squads.

Miranda Lawson and Samara: When I don't really know what a mission will bring, these are my choices. These are also my choices if the mission involves enemies with multiple protection types, especially Eclipse. Being able to set up Warp bombs consistently is really important, not to mention that Miranda's Overload, Samara's Reave, and Shepard's Incinerate cover any protections I encounter and then some.

Grunt and Thane Krios: Husks, varren, and all other enemies with light armor and complete disregard for cover mechanics are introduced to the Blur trailer. Thane's absurd weapon damage and Throw Field combined with Grunt's inability to die ensure that these pesky sorts of enemies die quickly before their numbers become too great. Shepard's Incinerate and Grunt's Squad Incendiary Ammo smooth the process even more. This team is better against husks than varren(I sometimes swap Thane out for Samara or even Jacob if varren are all I'm fighting), but there are at least two missions with nothing but husks.

Kasumi Goto and Jack: This is pretty much the only team I ever take to fight Collectors. Jack's Squad Warp Ammo means that all three of us are shredding Collector barriers at maximum efficiency, and her Pull immobilizes the unprotected, ripening them for a swift kill(which is further hastened by Warp Ammo). Meanwhile, the formerly threatening Harbinger becomes a non-issue with Kasumi on the team, as her awesome Flashbang Grenade completely nullifies Harbinger's attacks. Assume this, you yappy bastard.

Garrus Vakarian and Zaeed Massani: This is my anti-geth team. As an Infiltrator, I already have Squad Disruptor Ammo, which is the best thing about Zaeed on a typical basis. As a result, he excels at fighting synthetics, as his Heavy Disruptor Ammo causes brutal explosions with every geth that falls to him. That's not going to be a small number either, since Zaeed's weapon damage is already insanely high. Garrus, meanwhile, brings comparable weapon damage as well as the best Overload in the game. Hopefully, I don't need to explain why Overload is good.

ME1:
Garrus and Wrex
Probably the best damage combo. Wrex is obviously the best squadmate overall. You can't kill him, he has Warp, and his Shotgun damage is very impressive. Garrus provides great Sniper damage and a good array of tech powers. My only complaint with Garrus is that he's extremely flimsy until you get Colossus for him.

Wrex and Kaidan
Same deal with Wrex, unkillable and Shotgun ownage. Kaidan provides the best overall Tech/Biotic support. Kaidan is very flimsy as well though, particularly against Armatures and Geth Colossus.

ME2:
Miranda and Garrus

Miranda is the best overall squadmate. Her squad bonus passive ability is invaluable, and she ahs Warp/Overload. Garrus proivides an additional Overload and if you want can provide squad ammo power. I always prefer Snipers for my squadmates because they seem to do the best damage.

ME2 Soldier: Miranda + Grunt. Sure, the defense stripping is a little on the low side, but Grunt IS CC which means it doesn't matter, you can just plink away as one normally does. Either way, if you pick the Revvy you're in the thick of it too going nuts, or if you go with the Widow (my preference) you're going to be putting out way too much DPS for the less defense stripping to matter much.

ME2 Engineer: Miranda + Mordin. Miranda is there to strip defenses, me and Mordin go to town with Incinerations and Cryo Blasts. There's probably almost too much crowd control here, but I like it that way. Only other slight problem is that both are squishy, but if I'm playing right it shouldn't matter, defenses should be stripped almost instantaneously to let the CC start to roll so there shouldn't be problems.

Hmmm . .. haven't tried the Insanity difficulty, so that might void my squad tendencies. But I'll post 'em here anyways, just because I can.

ME2 Sentinel: I almost exclusively used Zaeed and Garrus. At first glance we seemed a little too combat heavy and too light on tech/biotic powers, but it worked very well. Maybe because of my gameplay style? I don't know. As a Sentinel in ME2 I used Warp and Reave (bonus power) relentlessly, along with an upgraded Tempest SMG. The assualt rifle gained from the Collector Ship mission was actually a disappointment, so I ended up staying with my upgraded SMG.

Every now and then I would sub Thane (for Garrus) or Jacob (for Zaeed) just to mix things up, but for the most part Sentinel Shepard, Zaeed, and Garrus were pretty efficient in all situations.

ME1: I went with Kaiden/Liara and Garrus on my Infiltrator the whole time, and will probably do the same for my Sentinel playthrough. I just can't find any use for Ashley or Wrex; blasphemy, I know. Tali is mediocre but IMO outshadowed by my preferred squad.

ME2: For a biotic class, I go with Jack and Thane. Epic biotic combos are in order. For tech classes, I mainly go with Mordin and Grunt/Zaeed/Garrus.

I'm still very new to the game series (only started in december last year), but in ME1 as a soldier I ended up using Tali and Liara all the time. Their combination of the necessary electronics/decryption tools as well as their many biotic attacks saved the day a lot of times. Next playthrough I'm thinking a sentinel using Wrex/Ashley as heavy support and Garrus/Liara as secondary character.

In my first ME2 playthrough I swore by Miranda and Thane thinking this was an mazing combination. Doing my second playthrough at the moment and I have found true respect for the Concussion Shot, so Garrus is finding himself in the field quite often with Miranda (Miranda seems to me like the best allround character; overload/warp is always usefull and her passive bonus is mazing).
