Here's a video series of ME1 for PS3 gamers

My God!, I've played so many games of ME1 that i've lost count, and the Start of it still gives me shivers. ( In a good way. )
It's a shame Bioware couldn't have done something like this instead of the Genesis comic. Having an interactive movie using ME1 cutscenes would ahve been a hell of a lot better than what they actually came up with. ( And yes, I know there are probably licencing issues and other such stuff that makes it highly unlikely that they could. But still, it would ahve been nice. )
And as someone has already said, good on you for makng it a FemShep playthrough.

Just a small update - finished editing the last episode (Episode 41).... turned into a doozie.. 30 mins long... didn't have the heart to cut it into 2 pieces at 15 mins each though... the ending to ME1 is so strong / emotional that it would've been a crime to cut it in half at such dramatic moments
I'll have the last few episodes uploaded in the next couple of days.
Thanks again everyone for the positive feedback, I really do appreciate it

I'll have to make a macro for this thread when a new player asks a question about the plot.

So OP, congratulations on having the will to do this, I'm pretty sure some players will thank you for it.

Heh, part of the reason I did this project was that many of the playthroughs I searched for prior to my proeject had in-game commentary by the guy making the vids... I didn't want to point my friends / family to those videos since hearing commentary over the in-game dialogue is kind of like having someone next to you in a theater who won't stop chatting
On a vaguely related note and piece of trivia...... It turns out Vigil is the most verbose character in Mass Effect.... having recorded literally every piece of character dialogue in the game, I found the one encounter with Vigil clocks in for just over 15 minutes of audio (assuming you choose all investigation choices).... more than any other character in the game (that is, in a single encounter of course... Shepard actually has the most recorded dialogue in game in total).

Actually most Mass Effect LP's have commentators who don't talk during the dialog.Hathur wrote...

That's true... one thing I can't find of other game playthrough videos and such are ones that focus on plot / characters... almost all that I see for any game focus on being more of a "how-to" guide for viewers... basically recordings of entire gameplay.
For example, if I had the nerve and patience to do this type of project again, I would love to do one for Dragon Age: Origins... that game had great characters and plot which would be a terrific candidate for an episodic video series that focuses on that story and characters... rather than the dozens of hours of combat, loot shuffling, character stat management, etc.
I would love to see playthrough vids of games more in that style... at least for rpgs or story / character focused games.... I never played Uncharted 2.. but I hear it has outstanding characters.. would love to see a story-playthrough of that, but everything I see on youtube is filled with several hours of combat, exploring, etc that I don't have the patience to try to fast-forward through and worry whether or not I accidentally skipped over a plot scene, heh.

Just 4 more episodes to go, hoping to have them all done by end of tomorrow to go alongside the official PS3 launch of ME2
Oh.. and thanks to the several people who sent me a private message via my youtube channel suggesting I post annotation links in each episode to the previous episode as well as the next episode... hadn't occurred to me. Many thanks for all the tips / advice and of course, the support

I only hope, that there will be many PS3 Mass Effect 2 players, who will find some time to watch your videos and enjoy this fantastic series as it supposed to be.
Once again - Good job.

Thanks. Considering that I originally started this project to be viewed by 5 or 6 specific people I know (and myself, so I can enjoy re-watching the story without having to spend another 30+ hrs playing it for the 70th time or whatnot.. don't get me wrong, I love ME... but literally some several dozen playthroughs later, I sometimes just want to watch the story without having to actually play heh)... I'm quite pleased if even just a dozen people on the internet enjoy the vids as well.
I hadn't originally even planned this to coincide with the PS3 launch of ME2 either.. was casually uploading it as my friends / fam called me for more episodes every couple days (I started recording sometime in November and uploading in December last year)... then my former college buddy reminded me a few weeks ago that PS3 players might want this, so I figured, what the hell, why not tell them about it too?
The fact Episode 1 has been viewed some 400 times was stunning to me... was expecting it to be viewed by only the half dozen people I originally made it for

A very good job I have to say. I have seen a couple LPs of ME1 but they were not very good for getting the story.
I gotta ask... I know what people mean by "LP" (walkthrough / playthrough videos)... but what is it actually an acronym for? I've seen the term used numerous times but never in its full form... has me rather curious what it means exactly.
Oh.. and I renamed my original thread post to be a bit more clear as to what the content of my thread is, heh... original title was too vague I think.

That's exactly how I feel. ME1's combat and gameplay in general in good but after I finished my first ME2 playthrough I just cann't get a fun from ME1's combat anymore.Hathur wrote...

LP = Let's play. And it's different from playthrough / walkthrogh in fact that often it is the first playthrogh for the person doing it.Hathur wrote...

You even resisted doing Liara as the romance *blows a kiss* I hope you don't mind, I took the liberty of sharing on my FB and have recommended your videos on the mahalo games comic video on youtube as a better intro to the ME universe :-)
Heh thanks.
Oddly, I did get a couple emails from people why I chose Kaidan as a romance interest instead of Liara. I felt the romance option with Kaidan was better suited to the character since the friendship / sexual tension was more believable considering what they went through together on Eden Prime, etc.
I was aiming to convey, what I felt, was the more ideal story with my character... and part of that included Kaidan rather than Liara as a romance choice. For a male Paragon, I likely would have selected Ashely as well over Liara.
I have no opposition whatsoever to Liara as a romance choice, I just personally find Ash / Kaidan the more suitable fit story-wise.

And considering that BioWare seem to have dropped any pretence over the 'asexual', asari (calling Liara 'she', in the comic for example) and since Shepard IS (according to BioWare) heterosexual, Liara would not be a romance 'choice', as such for femshep

I am very happy to report that the final episode (Episode 41) is now fully uploaded and processed. The final video clocks in at 31 minutes, but that includes some 8-9 minutes of the game's end credits (and the excellent music that goes with it). I simply did not have the heart to split it into more manageable 15 minute chunks like my other videos.. doing so would have damaged the dramatic impact.
The ending to Mass Effect is a beautiful thing... a genuinely memorable experience.. I encourage any watching it to do so at the HD settings... don't watch a pixelated version of this amazing ending
This little side project of mine turned into quite a labor of love over the past 2 months or so... in the process, I've taken a game that I'd already played through literally dozens of times over and through this single project, re-experienced the game perhaps 4-6 times more due to all the editing, selecting scenes to include, rewatching the compressed video prior to upload to ensure there were no errors (handling FRAPS' mess of recorded AVI files can get.. messy.. and lead to sloppy editing if one isn't careful).
One thing still rings true even after all these countless times now that I've watched Mass Effect 1..... I STILL am not tired of the experience - the scenes.... I can watch the ending, Virmire and so many other parts of the story over and over and still get a lump in my throat from the dramatic impact.... the ending alone, I've watched perhaps 5 times in the past 2 days throughout editing, etc... and it still swells my heart every time
So to all who have played ME1 already, I still encourage you to try a viewing of select episodes, if just to relive fond memories of this outstanding story... and to those who have gotten ME2 on their PS3 and have only experienced the simple comic version of ME1, I heartily encourage you to take a trip through these episodes and experience the story the 2nd best way you possibly can (playing it being the first.. though I'd like to think my project does ME1 fair justice).
Thanks and I hope a few of you enjoy this humble little project of mine - feel free to hit the link in my sig to visit my youtube channel and enjoy the episodes... it was a helluva memorable trip to work on in my spare time:D
