Well, the first response David Gaider made was "Force Mage???Posted Image"

Not in the thread I was referring to.

David's first (and only) response is:

It's when we force you to be a mage. Posted Image

Seems to be some erronious items in this preview. I'd read it, but take things with a grain of salt if I were you.

But then again, Chris is evil, so...

Force Mage, do want. Force Mage/Spirit Healer will be a nice combo. :D

And I can't wait to learn how Merril got cast out of the clan. The Dalish I think, don't share the same restricting views as the Chantry or the Circle of Magi about blood magic.

It must of been a very serious offense against the clan if she did, and probably made some deal with a demon.

Merrill was banished when her clan discovered compromising photos of her on her Facebook page, not to mention her steamy spread in Playelf magazine........................Posted Image

I think he meant: 'Fenris - Force Mage?' because that preview claimed Fenris was a mage.

So Merill IS a blood mage! Awesome.

I like the fact that Merrill is a Blood Mage, it adds another side to Blood Mages, that not all are EBIL things of DOOOOOOM!!!! SOme are just misguided, and I believe that's where she falls upon. I mean, Connor didn't made a pact with a demon because he was evil, but because he tried to save his father. Maybe Merrill just dosn't knows all about Blood Magic... Or maybe she does and in reallity she's an evil ***** hiding under the cover of a pretty elf face.

I thought Jowan already showed us another side of blood mages in Origins. The idea of a blood mage with good, or at least nonevil intentions is not unheard of. Whether one considers blood magic inherently evil is another story however, and mostly subjective. I have several issues with the idea of learning it from Merill, but that is also obviously subjective.

Possible. But it only claimed that Fenris was an elven mage, not a Force Mage...

I hope we learn it from Merrill. So I can play as a rebel mage with out being "evil" in any stereotypical sense.

I agree. Having to do something evil just to get the specialization casts blood magic in the wrong light. Blood Magic, imo, isn't evil. Its how you use it that defines it.

In origins I got the demon to teach me it, and leave connor and never come back..

This is the first time I've heard about this. I may need to replay my mage...

Yeah.. Just make sure your Mages str is at 18, and have max Coercion before you try it..

thanks for the info^_^

am I the only one who thinks Merrill being a bloodmage would be insanely out-of-character? I mean, her interest lied in elven history and artifacts, not foreign human magic. And why would she even think she needed it? What, wasn't the old magic Marethari taught her not enough?

If this proves to be true, I just hope there's a damn good reason for it; I just can't imagine someone like Merrill being a blood mage, it just doesn't feel right :crying::sick:

Blood magic isn't a human magic. Plus, another magazine said that her specialization will be a mix of blood and keeper magic

It still doesn't make sense, why would she feel the need to resort to such magic? Magic that, I might add, was used to destroy the civilization she's so interested in. True, it might not be strictly human magic, and yes, that might be a good way to have her exiled from the clan, but why would she need it in the first place? It doesn't add up

It's part of a Keeper's duty to be knoledgable of all types of known magic, isn't it? Zathrian knew it and I'm sure most others do as well.

Maybe she was just studying it? Perhaps she wanted to be stronger?

We don't know how Merrill learnt blood magic. I think there's a possibility that Marethari teached her blood magic. Or a demon. But we don't know if she's been exiled from the the dalish because she knows blood magic. It could be for different reasons. And the article doesn't say that she's exiled. It said that Marethari sends her with Hawke.

Because we really got to know her thouroughly for that half an hour part of Dalish Origin... Enough that we know it's completely out of character for her to be one...

I assume that's her unique "swashbuckler" tree and that she has the blood mage spec seperately.

That seems very likely, except it could maybe be a combination of keeper magic and blood magic.

Well, that settles that. Definitely going as a Force/Blood Mage on my first playthrough. I'd also like to see why Merrill was exiled for Blood Magic. Wonder if she messed up in some ritual and summoned the demon equivalent of a Jean-Claude Van Damme-Stephen Seagul abomination that kickboxed most of the Dalish Clan into non-existence.

As for Carver/Bethany going to look for the family heirloom, I wonder if this means that your sibling is not a permanent companion? On the other hand, they may just wander off to find the shiny thing for a relatively short time and return after the next time jump.

We know companions come and go on their own.
