+25% damage sounds rather gigantic compared to 25 mana or health, unless it's limited to the basic attack, or mana and health are a lot lower in DA2.
Ayup. Something tells me that Force Mages will be the derigour (sp) choice for potential mage players.

I just picked up the german magazine PC Games and it has some new information, or atleast for me..
Mage specialisations:
- Force Mage
125% Damage
- Spirit Healer
+25 Mana
- Bloodmage
+25 Health
Mage spell:
- Black Hole
instantaneous draws enemies together
The Dalish Clan from Origins, Marethari/Merrill Clan have settled on Sundermount and thats were we have to go to deliver Flemeth's amulet.
And good chance that we can learn Bloodmagic there, since Merrill is a bloodmage, specialisation "Dalish Pariah". She is then send away (exiled) by Marethari with us to Kirkwall and that she will be a party member.
When we arrive in Kirkwall we meet Meredith, the Templar Commander of Kirkwall and we are told that there is no room in Kirkwall.
Then we meet our uncle, who, if I read it right, has lost the family heir (the testament, Carver will go look for this) and he gives up a tip how we can get into the city: by meeting either a smuggler named Athenril, or a soldier named Meeran
We can at some point invest in an expedition into the Deep Roads by Varric's brother Bartrand
We help some Grey Wardens with a quest
EDIT: Marked topic header with a spoiler warning since you were pretty free with them here.
Wait Merill is evil????

am I the only one who thinks Merrill being a bloodmage would be insanely out-of-character? I mean, her interest lied in elven history and artifacts, not foreign human magic. And why would she even think she needed it? What, wasn't the old magic Marethari taught her not enough?
If this proves to be true, I just hope there's a damn good reason for it; I just can't imagine someone like Merrill being a blood mage, it just doesn't feel right
Blood magic isn't a human magic. Plus, another magazine said that her specialization will be a mix of blood and keeper magic
It still doesn't make sense, why would she feel the need to resort to such magic? Magic that, I might add, was used to destroy the civilization she's so interested in. True, it might not be strictly human magic, and yes, that might be a good way to have her exiled from the clan, but why would she need it in the first place? It doesn't add up
We don't know how Merrill learnt blood magic. I think there's a possibility that Marethari teached her blood magic. Or a demon. But we don't know if she's been exiled from the the dalish because she knows blood magic. It could be for different reasons. And the article doesn't say that she's exiled. It said that Marethari sends her with Hawke.
The OP claims that Merrill's specialization is "Dalish Pariah". Look up the definition of the word pariah.

Think about it. Blood magic was used to power 'normal' spells. It wasnt until the magisters learnt that unique spells could only be performed via blood magic.
Also, zathrian used blood magic to bind a spirit to the great wolf witherfang. In fighting zathrian in the ruins, he summons shades and sylvans. Sylvans are possessed trees.
Velanna too shows an aptitude for summoning sylvans.
Also, blood magic can be used to heal others. In the DA comic, the blood mage gleam comes across heals her with magic (as well as forms a protective barrier to ward off templars).
Blood magic also seems to have ties with 'old' magics such as the dark ritual.
In da2 im really glad merrill will be a blood mage like spec. Its an oppurtunty to explore blood magic lore and indeed, dalish lore too.

I personally think the name is weak but it sounds like the spells may be powerful. It almost sounds like it could be a reworking of battlemage.

"And why would she even think she needed" Well it would seem that those answers come from..... oh yeah playing the game and asking her about it.
"What, wasn't the old magic Marethari taught her not enough?" Apparently not

Because we really got to know her thouroughly for that half an hour part of Dalish Origin... Enough that we know it's completely out of character for her to be one...

If it's anything like the feel of the Deep Roads in Awakening (vs. Origins) then I will be one happy camper.
I friggin' LOVE the Deep Roads.
Force Mage sounds tempting as well.
Thanks for posting this information, Kimosabe! I tried not to look too closely at the other spoilers...

I dont know who Merill is but maybe she just knows how to open the door to BM specialization, she's not a BM herself...just Dalish Pariah?
I work in the nursing field, where BM stands for bowel movement, which is... Er... Poop. So I had to re-read that sentence a couple of times before I realized you were talking about Blood Mage.
Don't blame me, I just got home from work, where I had to deal with BM.

Oooo, Merrill the Dalish Pariah blood mage! I was hoping she was the blood mage, and here we are. Thanks for the info.
hmmm, interesting, I'd thought blood magic would be Bethany's story and my first thought on seeing that screenshot with femhawke was that it was Beth until fridge logic kicked in since that hawke was a mage and wouldn't have Beth
still, intrigueing twist for Merrill

Because perhaps she witnessed firsthand what the darkspawn taint does to her fellow elves and was trying to discover a way to cure it.

I know that. But they could be wrong. In another magazine they said that Fenris was a mage, is this true? No.
With the informations we have, it's very likely she will be exiled. Still, we have no confirmation that she's been exiled.
Howewer, I think that she have to do a very dangerous thing to be exiled. I don't think the dalish are as conservative as the Chantry in regards of magic. Her exile could put the dalish clan in a difficult position. She's been raised to be the leader of her clan. If Marethari dies, they're going to have big problems.

The article does not mention that she gets exiled. Literally it says " Marethari bedrängt sie sich Hawke anzuschließen". A good translation would be "Marethari pressures her into following Hawke". It does not sound as if she is forced to leave the clan forever and more like she has important business to do elsewhere like it was the case of a Dalish Warden in DA:O. The writer even says that he had the impression that there are other secrets regarding Merrill that are the cause for this.

Just to be clear, I never said she was exiled, I said that she was 'send away'
And just as Wittand says, Merrill has, according to the writer, more secrets
I don't think that the Dalish would exile someone purely because he/she is a bloodmage, since a bloodmage doens't have to be evil. Bloodmagic was a common practice in the history of Thedas, it wasn't until the Tevinter Mages used it that it became known as evil.
