This topic reminds me of the ending to Wizards.

The only thing I hate about Harry Potter are the fanfictions and the role plays. People just can't write like J.K. Rowling and invent everything else... Makes me sick...

Look, at the very least, Harry Potter has been responsible for getting hundreds of kids into reading who otherwise didn't bother with books. My mom is an Elementery School librarian, she's seen it. So, for that reason alone, I think the series lives up to the hype.

To the OP: Well, duh! Why do you think the magic people work so hard to keep themselves hidden from the real world? Because if we ever found out there WAS a magical world out there, we'd be invading them with tanks and planes and automatic weapons the very next day. ;) And it's a war the witches and wizards would lose; there's just too many of us for them to overcome.

Have to agree with Blastback about the books, but the movies...such potential and so disappointing.

I enjoy the Harry Potter books. I find the world and characters charming and fun. The characters and plot aren't deep by any means, but I think they are, for the most part, well done.

I don't like the movies though. I think they forgot to include the charming and idiosyncrasies of the books that I enjoyed. I found the ones I watched boring as a result

Why does everyone assume wizards will fight like line infantry? Wizards can make themselves invisible and teleport. Add the fact that their healers can easily fix any non-magical injuries and I think wizards would be able to put up quite a fight.

Or use cleverness for a change - get a cloak of invisibility, teleport into the president's office & imperius him. Have him start a war with the oldest enemy and mop up any survivors when they're done. If any politicians oppose the war then imperius them too.

I just despised the series due to the fact that Rowling was a sell-out to her fans. She changed some key points based off of the fanfiction people were writing based off of her books in order to please the masses. Despicable. That is the number one reason why authors shouldn't read fanfics based off of their work.

This is probably my most despised phrase.  It just reeks of elitism, assumption, and generalization.
