I'm sure she could distract him with her Motorboat talent, being all about the fanservice and such.

...okay, that was maybe too far. Bed time for me. ;)

God these forums are better than the star wars the old republic ones.

Though I guess mostly having played JRPGs until now, I am grateful that it's only one character who forgot to put on pants and not ALL of them.

Good god was his ass tight.

....Uh...I mean...uh...

And I fully admit to rotating the camera to check out Fran's buns of steel. Oddly enough though I'm more okay with Fran's outfit which is far more ridculous than Isabela's. Then again in Fran's case everyone was running around in stylized/semi revealing clothing not just the protagonists.

There's just something about that old dude, idk... :innocent:

Seriously, Dragon Age, you could have it worse. At least every single person isn't hanging around in a vest and gaucho pants. The NPCs in that game made my cry tears of blood.

I don't care if they are real or not, actually especially if it is fantasy

Would you all rather have women that resemble 12 year old boys or busty maidens?

I'd rather have women who resemble women.

I really, really can't see the problem with Isabela's clothes @_@ This isn't needless fanservice. This isn't like Miranda from ME2 who probably wouldn't choose to wear those clothes. This is Isabela, pirate scourge of your mom. She loves her body, she loves owning her body, and she loves showing off dat ass.

If this were Leliana wearing this outfit, yes, then there's a problem. But it's not Leliana. It's Isabela. It's in character.

I LITERALLY CANNOT FATHOM THE ISSUE HERE :(

(As far as realism goes, I'm not sure that rogue gear in DA:O was that much better. There wasn't enough protection to save someone from an attacker with enough force or dedication behind their attack, even just in the exposed legs. Isabela is confident enough to concentrate entirely on mobility. That's in character, too?)

It was an insult to me because you presumed to think I did not know the differance between the two. And now I'm not sure if your fishing for comments now or have a subjective memory, but you seem to forget male characters like Jacob from ME2, Allistair and Zhevran from DA:O and Fenris and Varric from DA2. All can be construed as fanservice for female players.

And since you aparently don't know what Hyperbole means:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbole

You're assuming the same by posting the question in the first place.
And before claiming certain characters are fanservice maybe you should look it up.

Fanservice: http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Fanservice

Edit: Also...fishing for comments? You know I was taught that when people say things like that it's often because they're doing it themselves.

Though thanks for correcting me about Hyperbole.

Hmm, and yet our modern media has programmed us to believe that "big boobs and lots of skin showing" is indeed sexy, when you said it yourself - its entirely subjective. A bit of a contradiction, to be certain.

Few mainstream actresses have the really huge ones, and given Isabela's slimness, they're just not realistic for an athletic person.  She's got major back issues does our skanky pirate.

Now, as fantasy, that's fine for people that like it.  I dissed someone's porno Morrigan earlier, but I actually faved this fanart of Sigrun.  It's kind of ridiculous, but as a fantasy piece I thought it cool that someone had such an alternate (very alternate!) vision of Sigrun, who gets little love in fan work.

It's just, in the game, where you're supposed to be engaged with characters, it's distracting to have some boner fantasy obviously at the forefront rather than a serious character portrayal.  At least that's my reaction to her look, and I admit it's wholly subjective.

Well from the gist of what I got was that some people did not like the whole "in your face sexiness" of Isabela's clothes, even though they are as much a part of her character as anything else.

But I don't know know, I'm a sexist heterosexual male pig who doesn't know anyting on the subject. And proud.

Yes. Sometimes I just want to take him and Otacon and...

True that. Actually I had little problem with Dragon Age (the only thing that bothered me was the boob size and modders fixed that.) (Well that and some of the robes. Yay custom robes!)

LOL at least it wasn't DQ8 where every 4th NPC is exactly the same.

I'm a bisexual female. I want to hit Isabela hard and enjoy looking at her amazing body, but I'm also near-obsessed with women's issues. I just ... don't get it. This is her CHARACTER. How is it fair to say that a female character can't be self possessed, confident, and sexy? Or even worse, to say that it's okay if she does, but could she please wear something that doesn't make us uncomfortable, even if it's not what she wants to wear?

Ridiculous!

Wow, I think that fanart might be a little to sexy for DA.

But anyway, think on this: What if the serious character portrayal is indeed some "boner fantasy" (I.E. Zhevran, with his rather loose morales.) What happens then? Does the "boner fantasy" then become serious?

Well, my boner fantasies are always serious. =]

I just read all 15 pages of this thread...and I'm simply shocked at how much attention this has gotten. Now, I know I'm male and as such my opinion on this will largely be ignored, but in most fantasy books/movies/comics/etc the heroine's (and most of the world for that matter) is dressed skimpily and rather well endowed. This is hardly bad, nor is it fan service *most* of the time.

I think it's becoming all too easy for the female fanbase's of these types of games/movies/etc to get all bent out of shape about the oversexualization of women. And if it was oversexualization...I'd agree with them 100%. As it is, this is the norm for the genre...so really this shouldn't even be an issue.

But...it was. Well I can't speak for everyone there, but it was for me. I actually found the outfit a little off-putting. Not in the sense that I was offended by it or anything, but rather that it (and the rest of her appearance) gave off way more of a badass vibe than a sexy vibe. Which, of course, is totally in keeping with Jack's personality. Miranda was infinitely more seductively dressed while showing way less skin.

This, plus the full body inkwork made her look a lot more covered up than she was, though I put her in the biker gear around midway through the game

Isabela strikes me as a "blatant fanservice" kind of gal.

And how dare some fans like that, I suppose?

Well,
I guess people can scold me for mentioning puritanism-- but listening
to a bunch of people cluck their tongues in disapproval every time a
character shows some thigh or some side boob sure starts to sound that
way. I'd much rather someone just said her outfit looked bad, like "I would never wear that! Gawd, what is she thinking?" Which is probably what some people are saying, but I never said everyone feels
this way. Christ. Make one broad generalization in response to a bunch
of different people and everyone thinks you're talking about them
personally. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie]

They're so vain they probably think this thread is about them? [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]

Pfft. You obviously ripped off that fist shaking movement from the Witcher.

Actually, I think someone in the Wheel of Time did it first.

Snorri Sturluson did it before them in the Prose Edda.

Sturluson? He ripped it off wholesale from some bronze-age cave paintings in  france

I think the 'girl characters ALWAYS dressed skimpily' bit has been addressed by:

Exhibit A: Meredith (see the Meredith thread)

Exhibit B: Aveline.

Isabella's outfit suits her personality- as in DA:O, she's sexual and doesn't really give two damns about what people think of her. Whether the 'no pants' thing is appropriate... not going there. Personally, I don't care, because I don't spend my time trying to look up the outfit of my companions. But considering this is one month before release, everything must be picked apart by fans. When it's not overwhelming praise followed by disappointment (see Civ 5), it's enerring scepticism followed by overwhelming praise...

Sorry, bit of a tangent. *angelface*

I don't like looking at ugly people. There are enough of them in real life.**** if I want to start seeing ugly people all of my games. and I still do sometimes.

I don't mid scantily clad women and men rippling with muscle. I live near a major city. As such I see a huge variety of people. Yes a lot of chicks show cleavage. A lot.

Are they going to slay orcs? no. Probably not, unless you count homeless people as orcs.

regardless I'm not here to tell people there opinion is wrong, because that is wrong. There are enough people here doing that.

I don't mind seeing it in games. I'm glad we are past chainmail bikinis (for the most part) and the Dead or Alive boobs in games.

If that pirate chick everyone hates, Isabelle look likes Susan Boyle, the boards would be on fire. I'm glad for some eye candle, male or female. If I'm going to be playing for 80 hours, easy on the eyes, to me is not a bad thing.

Again just my opinion. Actually probably unread by most. Since my post has more than 3 lines in it. :(

yay! I'll admit I breeze through huge posts at times too. And most of the time I look the fool as I post a hasty reply and realized I only skimmed and I sounded like an idiot!

Hell real life works like that. In job roles like casinos and such, they only hire attractive people. Open a magazine. Attractive people in ads wearing skimpy stuff. Hell cruise through facebook. There are plenty of skimpy clothing there and people who need not wear them.

People want to look at good looking people and skimpy clothes. Its on games, movies, ad, magazines, tv music videos. Even if we our selves are not DDs cups or have biceps the size of a small pickup. Thats just how our society has worked. Not in all countries mind you. Thats not to say everyone agrees, but as history has proven the majority rule. I know it sucks, I'm usually in the minority.

I think the OP was on a Puritan rant. It is his opinion...but he was not making sense at all.

Isabella looks just fine. She has big boobs...so do many women in real life. The funny thing is that Isabella is doing what most women would do if they believe a certain feature makes them more attractive.

Ladies who believe their breasts make them attractive generally tend to emphasize those features in their dressing...

In fact it is a normal human thing. People like to look good. If you believe something makes you attractive you tend to emphasize it.

Look at Varric. He has chest hair, he ADVERTISES it, and HE HAS 400 pages of fan fawnage!!!

How anyone can fight with all that clutter beats me. Talk less of the acrobatics Isabella uses in combat
