Is Dragon Age going to do that stupid thing where girl characters are ALWAYS dressed skimpily?

I don't understand what's the big deal with no pants!
Her boots are honestly high enough to act like pants, and yes she shows cleavage, big deal.
Also what's with people and large breasts? Wouldn't the world in general be boring if all characters were flat chested or just large chested? Some characters are covered and some aren't, it isn't scandalous.
Plus come on it is just a game.

The big deal, at least for me, is not about pantlessness, bootliness, or cleavageness. It's about the battle-readiness of such clothing. Again, if Isabela chose to wear those clothes while off combat, I would have exactly zero issues with it. It's the fact that a supposedly expert melee fighter considers it battle-worthy garment what worries me.
It might be just a game, and I'm willing certain amounts of leeway due to gameplay and story segregation, but there are certain things that simply reduce my enjoyment of that game, and glossing over armor in sword and sorcery is one of those certain things.

if you would be so kind good sir to explain to me in what way the battle-readiness of a mage is hampered by not wearing pants ?

Apart from the various different sustained spells which improve the mage defenses in a way that would make armor redundant, a mage battles at range, where cover becomes more important than armor.
In fact, if Isabela was an archer, I'd have no complains about her outfit (although a tighter bra would help in that case. I heard a bowstring strike in a breast can be quite painful).

Isn't Varric leaving his chest bare in combat similarly unrealistic? Does that also bother you?

Of course Isabella has been designed for sex appeal and of course the DA2 costumes in general are not terrifically realistic (For example, why would anyone put big metal spikes on one shoulder of a breastplate? It would be hard enough to balance in something like that already).

However, history is full of fighters who have chosen to go into battle with areas of skin left bare. Look at the Romans and Celts.

I already refuted your "evidence" but you ignored it because it lessened your "she's a prude" stance.
That said you seem to believe one is either a prude or promiscious so that's really all that needs to be said.

You didn't lessen anything, I still think she is a prude. Have I not made my stance clear enough? Perhaps you should look up the definition of the former and the latter, so you can get a better grasp of the topic at hand.

Right because someone who believes someone is either a prude or promiscious has a grasp of the topic.

My only problem with Isabela's outfit is the seemingly inevitable up skirt shots which I will have no choice but to groan at.

See my point above about cover being more important than armor for ranged attacks. It applies to Varric as well, as he's a crossbow wielder, and so a ranged fighter.

That's why I specifically mention padded jackets and wide-brimmed hats. Because that's the kind of protection duelists wore in the XVII and XVIII centuries. It is light, hardly impedes movement, and it looks damn good.

Romans wore armor in the torso, Upper legs, lower legs, head, lower arms, and shoulders. The only exposed flesh was on the articulations of the elbow and knee, because the technology didn't offer any other feasible solutions. And their combat prowess was based on formations, discipline, and shields. Until technology allowed full plate armor, shields were the preferred deffensive and offensive attire.
The romans with their armor and shields and formation conquered the celts.

I know the definitions hon. But I'm not stupid enough to believe there's two levels of sexuality.

There are many, many "levels" of sexuality: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_sexuality

...That's the point I was trying to make.

The person I quoted seems to think if one's not promiscious they must be a prude and vice versa.

I'm not going to be intentionally looking up her dress, just like I wasn't intentionally looking at Miranda's ass.

As far as I remember, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but the celts did battle completely naked, only covered in blue paint or tattoos (can't remember which) and used heavy as hell weapons. Romans **** skirts that basically only covered their genitalia (yes, most media depicts romans and greek in a much more prude way than what really was), though some "blessed" individuals actually had their "parts" exposed. And they went to war like that. So the fact that Isabela is pantless and Varric exposes his chest hair dosn't bothers my in a bit. Hey, at least it's not Varric who's pantless (though the darker side of me wished Isabela to have an exposed breast...).

Well, no one is holding you at gun-point forcing you to look at anything - intentionally or not.

You're kind of forced to if that's what the shot focuses on, like BioWare did with Miranda's ass a few times.

Not really, that's why we have eyes and heads that we can move independantly - to avoid seeing things we would rather not.

Romans wore a bunch of different stuff at different eras and in different ranks. Some wore greaves, some wore one or none.

I don’t see Wynne as a prude. I think she has quite a colorful past. I loved it when she told Alistair that he wouldn’t be the first young man to wake in her bed. I also think she had a very motherly side to her, which perhaps gave some the impression she was stodgy and maybe in her older years she developed a certain prudence, but a prude? No way.

I'm not going to just pretend like it's not there. It's just juvenile pandering and in many ways it's insulting to the intelligence of the audience.

I'll concede that point, as I haven't done that many research about roman military uses and customs. I think we can agree on the importance of the shield, though.

I don't need 'practical' armor to keep me immersed in a video game world. I'm all for chain mail bikinis.

This so much. Everytime I saw a Miranda ass shot I felt like that. Just...juvenille.
