Is Dragon Age going to do that stupid thing where girl characters are ALWAYS dressed skimpily?

See still not listening in spite of being given many examples of the game saying that a part of the game is spent in winter.

Whatever.

Anyway.
I still dont think that Morrigans robe was entire accurate or appropriate given the climate she supposedly hails from.
At least in DAO it could be tackled by putting her in something else.

As yet though I havent seen any companion or NPC outfits that appear inappropriate in DA2.

I want a proper reason.

Let me rephrase that then.
Bioware thinks it looks cool, thats all the reason they need.

As tempting as it is, I will not retort with the first answer that came to my mind, as it could be considered flaming. Let me only say that I'd expect the creative people at Bioware to know that verisimilitude and "coolness" are not mutually exclusive: quite the opposite, a lack of verisimilitude devaulates the "coolness" of the product.

Again, opinion.

Stop posting it as if though it is fact.

In your opinion

Let me rephrase what I said .

Bioware thinks it looks cool, that's all the reason they need.

Heh, that's even better.

- Hey guys, this looks cool, lets run with this. Oh wait, what will the fans think?

- Don't worry, we'll just invent some lore to support it.

Couldn't be the contrary?

Well, I think it looks cool. I liked Morrigan’s outfit and I like Isabela’s outfit. Personal taste and personal opinions differ, but they still count to the individual and there is no way Bioware is going to be able to please everyone who plays their games. For every person who is raged, or upset that the costumes/armor isn’t realistic enough, there is someone who thinks the outfits/armor is just fine because: It looks cool. Sometimes it doesn’t have to be more than that. It’s clothing.

Sure it can, but I imagine since they don't have an established fiction to base things on, like say Tolkien. I imagine they make up stuff as they go along. It is still possible of course. Just think it's not very likely.

Creative feedback goes both ways. And I know Gaider mentioned there's an ingame reason (quoted it twice in this thread, in fact). I just reiterated I'd expect it to be a good reason, not a half-assed excuse like the one a fellow posted a page or two ago.

I didnt dislike Morrigan's robe I just didnt think it made sense in the context of where she hailed from and what type of person she was.

From what i have seen so far the dresses and armor don't look so bad. Some of them do pretty much cover everything. Of course that may change as more of the game is revealed were (i hope ;-)) more may be revealed. But so what. It's a fantasy game it practically has an artistic license to not to fully make sense and be a bit skimply on the clothing, look at any fantasy title. I think it's one of the reason people play these games. (Well, that's one of the reasons, i play these games.)

Would a weather witch and shapeshifter such as Morrigan be at all bothered by the temperature? Granted it don't look right for a norm but our favourite sorceress is far from that.

Well she was a witch. What exactly is supposed to make sense about this type of person? That they are like normal people certainly not.

Indeed. She also seems to show a slight disdain for anything resembling “human” culture or tradition. I think it would be difficult to place her into any context. Same could be said about Isabela, since we know so little of her other than the ten minutes in Origins and the glimpses we see of her in DA2 clips. Perhaps once people do know her personality, they won’t be able to imagine her in anything other than her current attire.

It is so cold in Ostagar! People say so in BioWare forums!

I hated her robe. Having a skmipy top over a fugly skirt topping pants with some fathers tossed in  practically screamed "fashion victim". Posted Image However, I suppose her lack of taste was the point.

I don’t think people are saying it’s cold in Ostagar to be argumentative. I believe they are just stating that it is theoretically cold there. Fergus makes mentions of how he is going to be freezing while there, and I think I remember a few mentions about how Ferelden is a cold and harsh land, though I could be mistaken.

Morri's "robe" was awesome and best mage "robe" I have seen in any game. It was very original design and the feathers in it just mirrored Morri's inner nature as mystic as well as the leather put emphasis on her pragmatical side.

Then I saw the small boobs and no thigs visible. I was sure women would be happy! Small boobed Morrigan not showing legs and wearing typical dress. Certainly Politbyro approved! But no, too much skin was visible and a little bit sideboob

Qunari are not just "warriors" they are soldier. A soldier is not going to get off a ship without proper equipment for a land combat situation...you telling me those Qunari could NOT don armor a few minutes before gettinf off the ships while having been in light attire the entire trip? come on!

You mean during the few minutes where his ship is entering an extremely well-defended harbor under heavy fire from enemies determined to sink it?  The few minutes before he may very well have to lead the medieval version of an amphibious assault?  You mean during those few minutes?

go tell a marine "hey, you are badass, dismount the amphibian bare chested and go into combat that way!" ....see how that one flies

It would fly better than telling him to storm the beach in full plate while his landing point is under heavy artillery fire.  If the Qunari had access to kevlar, I'm sure they would make use of it.

Pretty sure I'll always be able to imagine that she could have been designed with more stylish clothing and a curvy figure that's still in the range of normal.  Naturally it's to each her own, but I hate that outfit.  It's not just the gazongas of doom or the panty shots, tasteless as they are.   I think it's an ugly mishmash of pirate stereotype and totally impractical.  That gold around her neck?  I can't stand to wear large earrings because they weigh so much.  She'd have permanent pain both from that and from unsupported flop.  Those boobs should be sagging to her knees.

Not to go all feminist, cuz I'm really not, but it just gets me that men like things that are actually painful to wear.  High heels being another example.

She doesn't feel the cold the way humans do. She has a conversation about it with Alistair. It probably has something to do with her linage.

Pretty much every character not from Fereldan whines at some point how cold it is, and even some of the ones who are. Morrigan's outfit was ridiculous, but I could stuff her in something a little less so (the robe you get from the mage tower blood mage, I forget the name of it, it was still skimpy but gave the poor girl some better boob support), so it didn't bug me as much.

I get the reasoning behind ICONIC LOOKS or whatever, but when I really hate an iconic look, it makes me sad I can't change it at all.

Archon Robe- I used that one, too, as soon as I got it.  Morrigan was my staple mage and she got whatever was the best robe around, other than Chantry stuff which I couldn't put her in.

I don't mind the iconic looks as a kind of character concept for the NPCs, but I want to be able to change them, too.  Another was Alistair, who I spec'ed to dual wield and thus usually put in leather armor.  When I got used to it, I found I preferred him that way, and it seems impractical that NPCs were wearing the tin cans all the time even in casual situations.  Leathers are more practical for day to day travel and stuff.

I hope this "feature" goes away in future games.

Do you have that text handy?  I can't recall anything like that and don't see it in the Wiki.
