Is Dragon Age going to do that stupid thing where girl characters are ALWAYS dressed skimpily?

Perhaps great time has passed between the mention in the codex and they have since changed. Maybe this is a branch of their military that simply wears less ( there are some Qunari I have seen completely barechested as well) or perhaps the more lands they conquer the less they wear in a bizarre Qunari drinking game. lol Kidding. Who knows. It may just be that the Codex was written by people who didn't understand the Qunari and so made a few errors. (The " History being written by the victor or angry survivors" deal)

The models may just be so pretty with their muscular definition it was a shame to cover it up. I think they look really cool.

If they decide to have female characters wearing revealing clothes, and it MAKES SENSE, I am all for it. If they are out in the middle of a snowstorm with no pants on, well, that just borders on the ridiculous and I hope they get a slow penalty for that. :P

Sexualization is different than simply revealing skin though. A person can be fairly undressed and still not be portrayed uncharacteristically sexually. Or vice versa. Sometimes, it is HOW and WHY it is done, not IF it is done.

Besides, there is so much blood and gore in this game, why sexual clothing or nudity is the *biggest* thing people think about is interesting.

I'm not sure the popular fan definition of "retcon" has any room for imagination.

Please dont justify it, just say it was always meant to be that way. When Star Trek tried to justify the klingon's ridges... it didn't go well. :)

It could very well be that the shirtless Qunari are the result of you launching a surprise sneak attack on their barracks or something.  Or it's Varric exaggerating.  Or maybe they're just hot.  Or they were in the bath.  There could be a fairly simple justification for it that the devs aren't interested in elaborating on at the moment.

From what little we know about the Qunari from DA:O, I am guessing it has something to do with either honour or religion.

the codex begs to differ............

So... Because the codex mentions an invasion of amored Qunari, this rules out the possibility that Qunari may fight without it, and that this may be because of religion or honour?

no but it begs the question "why?".

If Qunari forces fought with armor and all Qunari (except the deserters) follow the Qun then why would these Qunari not use armor for a matter of honor or religion?

I am sorry to the OP but this is clearly and patently UNTRUE.

There is ONE example in Dragon Age of "chainmail bikini" syndrome and that is Morrigan with her robe that MAKES NO SENSE for where she lives.
Considering she isnt portrayed in any of the trailers as the "sexy" female character (thats Leliana) its all the more baffling that she has this showing her bewbage fanservice robe.
But she is the ONLY example of this in Dragon Age.

The other armours and whatnot are all fairly decently done on the whole.

Just fot I would say...

Mass Effect 2 on the other hand... All I can say there is Yikes.

EDIT:
Even in earlier Bioware games like BG, NWN, or KotOR they tended to shy away from this sort of thing.

I like this.
The qunari are simply playing a friendly game of strip conquer.

Are you referring to Arrival of the Giants?
It doesn't actually say that qunari soldiers wear their "glittering steel armor" at all times. You wouldn't excpect samurai to wear ō-yoroi instead of kimonos when they're not on a battle field, would you (I'm only using that example because the qunari remind me of the samurai)?
What we see here could very well be traditional/ceremonial clothing.

Yes. Because their weapons are their souls (again, very bushido), remember?
European knights would wear their weapons with their casual clothes too. It's not strange at all.

Perhaps because blood is a natural, non-discriminating taste, whereas exploitation of a gender is at the expense of half of the world's population, which is known to play this game.

That is certainly right, sir. But as of now, we have little material to go by, all we know is that there are tales of armored qunari and they are half-naked in Kirkwall. There may be a few answers: Their concept changed with the art direction, the Qunari military tradition has changed, this is an elite unit or any other reason, really. My speculation of honour or religion, is due to the Qunari being seemingly cool and collected, yet have a very spiritually side to them as well. I think the only reason they'd do anything as foolish as fight without armour, must be a religious or cultural one.

it IS if they are shown cutting a swath through hundreds of guards to get to the "king" of kirkwall like in the trailer/screenshots (notice the crown in one).

they wouldn't have worn freaking ceremonial clothing in such an endeavor

but there is no point arguing, as I said some people find nothing wrong wqith Jack's outfits so......

The qunari in the screenshot ARE wearing armor. The one with the red pauldrons doesn't wear much, that is true, but the two in the background seem to be wearing steel.

I am not certain of the point of this topic. If the OP wanted to know whether or not females in DA 2 wear chainmail bikini, then just go watch some of the gameplay videos. Both of the 'Making of' videos have some, the combat walkthrough does, and the Rise to Power trailer does too.

Why come here and make a topic about it whne one can simply find out for oneself?

You mean like all the people who start threads like "Can I play as a female?", "Who are the companions?" or "I don't know anything about DA2. Fill me in!" and "What place is DA2 set in?" when simply visiting DA2 official site would tell them all these things???Image IPB
I'm not sure how they manage to find the forums, log in, start a thread and wait for responses and still be too lazy to check the official game site.

Those threads remind me of those lazy school partners you get stuck doing an assignment with and they want you to do all the work for them because they "don't know how to do it" and "need help".

As a disclaimer I am straight guy, but it pisses me off so much when I equip female characters with armour and it turns out it's just a bikini or something stupid like that. It really takes away the realism of a universe when I see people fighting in armour that should be sold in a sex shop.

Heres an example: Morrigan okay I see she was raised in a forst I understand that and it makes sense but what doesn't make sense is that she's rags in a from what I understand a very cold nation. Espiecally in the wilds. Why wouldn't she be wearing a heavy mage robe to keep warm?

I don't mind nudity in a video game if it makes sense though, an example of this is the lady of the forest if she wore clothes that'd just be stupid.

Morrigan was scantily clad? was it because she showed her arms? Seriously? This is a joke right? Must be a joke, because without mods there was nobody scantily clad in DA:O that I can remember save for maybe Dalish females but I didn't see nothing really wrong with that at all. Honestly think you just need to relax

I wouldn’t say Morrigan was dressed like a ****. She’s a witch from a forest and that’s what she likes. I hate it in video games when the amour is not gendered based. Examples in mass effect 2 WHY is a women running around in a giant armor suit when Miranda, Tali, Samara, even Jacob, are wearing skin tight clothing??? Clothes should fit gender, no people’s choices, with the options to also wear out of gender. I am not saying this in negative sense, but for me having a girl run around like a guy is stupid, and everyone would raise hell if a guy ran around dressed like a more female character (complaining only in America). People should have the option to dress their characters in revealing or fully covered clothing.Image IPB

Could she be wearing a bit more clothing? Yes, but I don't think it's a huge deal. Morrigan is a shapeshifter living in the wild, a 'Witch of the Wilds'. She dresses as she pleases and her outfit is very much complimented by her personality, how she doesn't mind using sex to manipulate people. She's not a circle mage and is not going to walk around in a robe just for decency's sake.

I'm not trying to make a value judgement of her "wardrobe" I just agree that calling it modest, or saying "it just shows a bit of arm" is a bad description.
