Oh, what I'm trying to say is, maybe some people are shocked to see more provacative women in DA2? In DA:O, we only really had Morrigan, and Morrigan's outfit wouldn't have been quite so shocking if Bethany and re-visioned Isabela had been there! So, while it's great that we have more females who are comfortable with their bodies and want to show them off, I can understand where some people think it's taking different turn from DA:O.

Personally, I only feel uncomfortable when I look at Bethany, since I'm supposed to play her older brother or sister! In real life, when my little sisters dress provocatively, I always say something, or encourage them to wear sweaters... Of course, this only encourages them to take off even more clothing, so maybe I'll just let Bethany dress the way she wants, haha.

More provocative women in DA2? Based on what?

Isabela is certainly showing some skin, no question. Bethany shows some cleavage, but not even that much (unless you're going strictly by the exaggerated version of her) and certainly no more than your average character in Origins. Beyond that you've seen Merrill and Aveline, who are about as un-provacative as I imagine one could be. The only other female character we've shown is the female templar, who is just as heavily armored as Aveline is.

Come to think of it, I think this exact same thread popped up when we revealed Morrigan the first time. Isabela is no more representative of how women dress in DA2 than Morrigan was for Origins.

This is a genius response I mean it's David Gaider he rocks!!! Image IPB I think the the girls rep who they are!!!

Morrigan was scantily clad? was it because she showed her arms? Seriously? This is a joke right? Must be a joke, because without mods there was nobody scantily clad in DA:O that I can remember save for maybe Dalish females but I didn't see nothing really wrong with that at all. Honestly think you just need to relax

She shows more than her arms;

OMG your right! Who would of thought that a woman who was brought up in the wilds would not be so constrained by the worlds inhabitions around her and have a vast wardrobe to cover herself up with! Thank you for bringing this outrage to my attention!

Wait. Wait. W-a-i-t. In the exaggerated version Bethany uses a robe. She doesn't show anything. You're saying that her white outfit is actually her exaggerated outfit?

I don't think anyone in DA2 is dressed provocatively at all, aside from Isabela.

I mean, Bethany? She shows a little cleavage in some shots, but it's well within typical fantasy standards. Even tame, I'd say. Go look at some Vallejo or something to see how it could have been.
Image IPB

Merrill? Uh, just no. We've only seen one waist-up shot of her, and unless she's going pantsless like Isabela, I think we're pretty safe here (especially considering her rumored personality).
Image IPB

I don't think we even need to mention Aveline.
Image IPB

So that leaves Isabela. No one will argue she's not dressed provocatively, but then again she's...Isabela! Of course she'd be dressed provocatively. She has at least as much reason to do so as Morrigan did, given her personality/lifestyle.

So we pretty much have a single provocatively-dressed character, and it's one who totally fits that style. Is that really such an outrage?

Edit: wow, that apparently took a while to type up.'d 11 minutes ago by Gaider.

I guess that's fair to say. Come to think of it, we did have all those female Dalish elves runnign around in middrift-showing light armour, right? I'd forgotten about them. When I think of female NPCs, I think of the Chantry sisters and those neck-high peasant dresses... but I guess it's not fair to site nameless people when we're talking about female leads.

I suppose when I said that I was seeing more provcatively-dressed women in DA2 versus DA:O, I was specifically thinking of Morrigan versus her female party memebers Wynne and Leliana, who come to the party dressed conservatively... but you know, you're right, Bethany isn't all that bad. There really aren't all that more provacatively-dressed women in DA2 than DA:O, is there? And if there are, it's by a small margin, and there's certainly enough conservative women to balance it out.

I have to say, the early shots had me pretty worried, but with femHawke looking normal, all is well. Maybe there will be a rivalry path option where you can comment on Isabela's taste in clothing. lol

Oh no! A character in a tunic dress! Someone inform the Puritan Police!

Honestly, the fact that Isabela is always going to dress like Isabela, and someone can't switch her out into a dowdier set of armor just because is probably the thing I like most about the new inventory system.

And why should it matter if a woman brought up wherever wants to do the same? It's an individual's prerogative to dress as they like. It's laughable you'd think a woman who IS A PIRATEgives a flying frak about what society's opinion on her outfit, or that somehow women not raised in a forest by their crazy mom don't show any cleavage. Morrigan could have chosen to add a few more strips of cloth to her shirt but she didn't because she didn't feel like it.

I can see her ankle...I am now scarred for life.

Seriously people, why does it matter how this one individual decides to dress. Unless you are going to pursue a romance with her similar to how many people chose to romance Jack (I know that the reason is totally because of her personality *sarcasm) it should not affect your game. If your immersion is broken by one fighter not fighting in massive armor then please kindly look into the reason that massive armor is now no longer in use.

Massive armor = impedes movement

Woman with no armor + rapier/scimitar beats soldier wearing massive armor in combat. As long as the weapon is a piercing weaon (as Isabela's weaponry is sure to be) armor is almost a nonissue.

Why is it silly? Is a short skirt or a tunic dress silly? Every comment I've seen regarding her so-called lack of pants either has a puritanical streak behind it or takes the view that she's not wearing enough armor-- as if adding a pair of pants to her current outfit would make her sooo much better protected?

Yeah, I'm going with puritanism. Thankfully, she doesn't care. :)

I hope she at least puts some short shorts on in one of her other outfits so her butt cheeks aren't flying out when she's doing a Image IPB attack.

For the record I didn't overly care about Morri's outfit. I was far more irritated by the fact that my PC's chest was huge and in certain robes had ridiculous cleavage. (Easily solved by playing a warrior and using mod robes) but in Vanilla boy was that annoying.

I prefer to play Barbie Dress-Up with my companions in RPGs, but I have no problem with the actual look of the mandatory outfits they've given to the female characters in DA2. I do want the option to roll my eyes at Isabela's outfit at some point during the game, but it feels appropriate for her.

Just want to take a moment to thank you for this confirmation. I always thought it was just a really short dress, not a shirt, explaining why she doesn't wear pants with it, but had not evidence to back it up. Now I can just refer to this post.

Frankly I think it just look riduclous. Nothing to do with "puritan" views or needing more armor. And I also wonder how comfortable she'd be sitting on something wooden that could potentially give her a splinter but regardless.

And how is that outfit a short skirt?

And I am unaware of what a tunic dress is. It simply looks like she's wearing a long shirt with a slit near the thigh with a scarf tied around her waist. That said I'm not saying it's not a dress.

(For someone supposedly so open why the necessity of the scarf? )

Really though making the assumption that everyone who finds it eh is because some sort of realism/puritian remark is just off to me. I mean just shallow and shortsighted. It's like choosing the easiest target to go "haha" at to belittle their opinion even if the person you quoted didn't mean it in that context.

It gives a pop of color that draws the eye to her hips, which are magnificent and should draw attention.  Duh.
