This has been happeneing since Friday afternoon.

When I login to my social.bioware.com account, click on Games in the top menu bar -> Mass Effect 2 -> Offical DLC.  Then I choose the Shadow Broker DLC, and click "Buy" for PC, I get two error.

1)  The Bioware encrypted site certificate has expired.

and then I get

2) "General Error:  An error has occurred while trying to process your request. Please, try again later."

I tried both IE and Firefox, cleared cache.  Rinse, repeat, ad nauseum.

EA live chat support was friggin worthless

Can someone else try this to see it work?  Hard to think  Bioware/EA would let something like this go on for over 2 days.

Me too, IE recommends closing the website as the security certificate has expired.

ME and ME2 have been very popular of late, so site traffic could be well up and affecting your connection to it. A some people have had some success by setting their alarm for 3 or 4am on a weeknite (when there should be less traffic), and trying then.

Others have reported that some browser plugins can imoact it. Download a vanilla browser (Opera), and try that.

Tried Opera. Same "General Error" message. It's hard (if not impossible) to believe that even with this increased traffic that a large company like EA would have server and bandwidth capacity issues.

Can't buy Mass Effect 2 DLC because of an expired security certificate. Ridiculous. I also own Dragon Age Ultimate Edition. I assume that if I wanted to start that up right now and try claiming the DLC *that I've already paid for*, I wouldn't be able to?

This is why it scares the crap out of me when these Ultimate Editions and Game of the Year Editions include the DLC but still make you jump through 3rd party hoops instead of just installing it all as part of the game you bought.

I had the same thing happen to me yesterday, and I was using my PayPal account. The error message came up, but according to PayPal, the payment went through and I had a receipt. My BioWare points weren't showing up or anything. I had to contact EA support, and from there, chatted with one of their customer service reps, and within seconds, they'd given me my points and I was on my way. Might be worth checking your credit card or PayPal account to see if the purchase went through and/or contacting EA.

Sorry but I don't trust any website with my card details if it doesn't have a valid security certificate.

99 times out of a hundred it's probably just a mistake but it's the one percent that gets you.

My wife runs the website of a company for living and she tells me that letting a security certificate expire over and over again is extremely amateur and embarrassing.

It's a reaction to Ricky Gervais - perhaps that is where he went for that missing hour - download DLC for ME2 and hit problems.............

This thread is not about a game problem, and this is the PC Tech forum for Mass Effect 2 (now, at least, until a moderator moves this), so it's technically off topic. There are two forums for the gamers themselves to discuss either problems with the site itself, or with the Points System itself, and those, one or the other, are probably a more appropriate place to go if the official support proves to be unhelpful.

social.bioware.com/forum/1/category/59/index

Do not be misled by the naming applied to this forum. It is not official, it is just what the header says it is, a place for gamers to discuss PC Tech stuff while we wait on the hoped-for permanent fixes to problems.

We can't do anything alt all here about the site's deficiencies, or the Points System's fallibilities.

Yeah I get the same crap when trying to buy DLCs, EA customer support told me to re-install the game? wtf? that has nothing to do with the non functional site to buy a DLC. This is pretty bad BW, I had higher expectations from you.

Unfortunately, Bioware's once stellar service has taken a pummelnig since they were taken over by Endomorphic ****holes Electronic Arts. They can't do anything without getting the nod from their bloated corporate overlords.
With the "paint by numbers" script thats handed out to their alleged support personel, Bioware get a bad name for something that is beyond their control.

100% agree. This certificate expiration is now 3 days old and still nothing fixed.

Something is going very wrong in Bioware.

Theres nothing that we can do to help, as we are just fans of the game, and have no control over the website, or site certification. Try posting in the relevant forums, or contacting EA support.
