I am starting this thread to focus on using the game with Windows 7 as yet, BioWare has not indicated whether the game will run ok on this OS. Most opinion says it will with no problems !
If you know of any news concerning this post it here
If you install on Windows 7 & have problems running the game post it here so, we can help each other.

Actually Bioware HAVE indicated (though unofficially) that the game will run perfectly fine on Windows 7 - they just can't make this an official statement because DAO hasn't been exhaustively tested on Win7, as it has been on XP and Vista.
It'll work fine

Although the looks are quite different, the os compared to vista is very similar. all it really is is a fancy upgrade. So almost everything that plays on vista (and even some that dont) will play on 7.

Some people are reporting problems with GeForce 8800 GTS within games on Windows 7.
The dreaded blue screen crashing the game. Be aware !
I'm sure Nvidia will release a new driver asap.

Can't blame you for not seeing is, as I was shocked myself that it was on page 2.
But I think everyone'd like if PC specs related topics would go into one topic. And I got a note on W7 in there aswell, since it will (very most likely) do fine.

I play DAO for hours on Vista without any problems.Unfortunately when I installed Windows 7 DAO has been having problems with constant freezing or stalling. It never had that problem before with Vistas.

I play it on Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate. I have an nVidia GeForce 8800 Ultra and have no problems with it. It is the most stable any game has ever been for me.

DA:O crashed only once for me, and that was because I misused a third party mod.

This has largely been my experience as well, if Vista gave you a solid, stable computing experience Win 7 should be largely similar with few exceptions other than the GUI appearance.Oromias wrote...

The only performance/engine related issue I had with DA:O on my machine was the widely documented memory leak that culminates in excessively long load/transition times after extended gameplay (3-4+ hours). The current workaround is to exit the game client and restart to restore the normally fast load/transitions. The problem doesn't seem to be isolated to any Windows version (XP, Vista, 7) or 32-bit or 64-bit versions, which indicates its a game client memory management issue. Hopefully fixed in the next patch as 1.02 doesn't seem to have fixed it.

For me it worked much better under windows 7 than under XP.
Under XP, I experienced crashes after long playtime, untextured areas when too many background programs were running (like a browser or skype) and generally, I had to reboot after 5 hours of play to get all the textures back.
Under windows 7 (32 bit), same PC, same hardware (it's 4 gig of ram and a geforce 260 gtx by the way !!!!) none of those issues come up.

Ditto. I did accidentally kick out my water pump and things got pretty trippy, but the game did not crash.

Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate, with 4GB RAM and a Sapphire Radeon 4890. Runs perfectly. There's the memory leak but that's a know bug that (I think) plagues all operating systems. I've had maybe 2 crashes through an entire (slow) playthrough.

Windows 7 64-bit is a blast. Runs DA:O smoothly. I never used Vista. I went from XP 32-bit to a new install of Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium on a dedicated SSD and the difference is like night and day.
Supposedly Windows 7 takes the best of XP, eliminates the worst of Vista bottlenecking, and provides a fast, stable gaming OS. I can't disagree with that from my experience with Win 7. Some recent game testing with Win 7 also bears this out.

EA has stated they will support DA:O running under Windows 7 on their website.
Unfortunately, I went to go link to the document, and EA seems to have buried it miles deep into their website or removed it altogether. So I can't offer you a link to proof, but I know for sure I read a document stating that DA:O (along with a bunch of other games I don't remember) was officially supported under Win 7 despite the box cover not stating this.

Windows 7 Professional 64bit here. Other than the memory overflow problem (which is not specific to any operating system) the game runs fine.

I hate to just add to the long list of posts that offer no solutions, but...
Windows7 Ultimate 64-bit, nVidia v8.16.11.9107, DirectX 10.0.
This is the most stable game that I've played in many years.
