AI Hacking Hilarity

My favorite is Neural Shock - like Cryo Blast, but effect is instant and lasts longer, plus it's on a 3, instead of a 4.5, seconds cooldown, it doesn't work on synthetics so not very useful on Geth missions for example.
I usually switch to Energy Drain on Geth missions, works like Overload, but also boosts your shield making Shepard virtually invincible.
Dominate is also a great bonus power, but it, like Neural Shock, doesn't work versus synthetics, but it does complement AI Hacking.
Flashbang grenades are nice, Slam can be used if you like setting up warpbombs.
You don't need Stasis, Combat Drones will deal with the dangerous folk just fine.
Ammo powers might be an option. They are not very effective, but if there is no bonus power that suits your needs, they will boost weapon damage a little.

any idea what bonus power i should take?
and what weapon training i should take? im leaning towards AR so i can us the mattock rifle
I'm assuming for the Engineer, so any BP really, I'd argue that you try out a few to see which fits better for you.
AR training is fine especially with the Mattock or Vindicator, but Shotguns are also fun depending on how close you want to get to enemies.

Yeah, played right you don't have to worry about enemies shooting you all the time. Shotguns are my favorite, but that has nothing to do with Engineers - I prefer using them with all classes
AR are always a solid choice - they work well at any range. SR might be fun too, I haven't tried the Viper on my Engineer, but powers like Drones, AI Hacking and Overload are insta-cast. Should be managable through the scope. Drones also make enemies easy targets. For those who like long range fighting SR should be great combined with the Engineer's skills.

You could say Shepard was a Sentinel in ME1

Well, I got all excited and decided I'd try to put together my first video. Windows Movie Maker pretty much sucks for output quality, so I'll probably go ahead and invest in a better movie editor (if anyone has some suggestions, I'd be open to hear what they use). Still, I think it came out alright. I wish I could have done the game audio better, but with the fast forwards, Windows Movie Maker was messing with all of the audio, even the stuff that was at normal speed.
Anyway, hope you guys like it!
Great video kstarler - added to the OP. That's one of the best parts of the Overlord DLC and I must say I'm impressed you didn't get lost - I always have one or two "damn, where's the bloody exit" moments
Awesome soundtrack! Electric Avenue FTW!

Thank you sir! Admittedly, I had to do the mission a dozen or so times to get it right (and I had to crank down my mouse sensetivity to keep the video from looking too jerky, which took some getting used to), so the first few times I did have some "Where the hell am I?" moments.Bozorgmehr wrote...

If you allow me, I would suggest you to get Sony Vegas Pro (9 if you can, or even 10 if you dare), as it's simple and easy to go by.

10 Heavy Overload (kills shields)
10 Heavy Incinerate (kills armor and health)
10 Combat Drone (Good diversion, removes enemiesfrom cover, does some damage)
10 Mechanic (boosts skills)
10 Heavy Warp Ammo (takes care of barriers fairly well and I don't have to wait for it to cool down once activated)
1 Cryo (just for fun!)
I can't deny the effectiveness the OP demonstrates using AI Hack and Cryo but considering the above skill set is what I used to beat the game fairly easily on Insanity I often suggest it for its versatility IMO at least.
Edit: Also, I'm a big fan of teh Mattock. I tried the sniper rifle with one previous playthrough but the Mattack (once AR is upgraded) is basically a semi-automatic sniper rifle to a point.
Anyone else other than the OP ever play as a shotgun engineer? It jusr seems the default SMG and HP are already close range weapons, why equip another. That's just me though.

I was not a big fan of the shotgun as a bonus weapon before the GPS. However, the GPS will instantly strip shields/barriers from enemies, and is effective even at semi-long ranges, making it a fine pick for Engineers and Adepts. I feel I was able to use it very effectively in my hacking video. Sniper Rifles can be good for Engineers as well, due to power sniping. The scope can allow you to use powers on enemies that would otherwise be too far away.Yakko77 wrote...

EDIT: Also, to clarify, this thread isn't really about Engineers specifically, but about the AI Hacking ability. It's more to demonstrate how much fun it can be to hack synthetics and use them against the rest of that level's enemies. I'm actually planning to work up a video using Tali/Legion and an non-hacking Shepard. Who says Engineers and Infiltrators should have all the fun?

@ Aynien; cool video and music of an interesting mission - I'll add it to the OP and check the mech facility myself to see if similar 'irregularities' regarding AI Hacking are common there
Did you checked it? I wanna know if it's just me being unlucky(as usual) or in fact a (little) flaw on the Loki's behavior.

Still kinda weird, it's the only mission where I've seen them doing this.
@ kstarler; How is your squadmate based AI Hacking video going? I'll hope it's an Adept - that would be fun

I've been distracted with upgrading my system to Windows 7 64-bit (from XP 32-bit), as well as fiddling with a couple different video editing programs to see what I want to use in the end, so I haven't gotten to it yet. But, I have been leaning toward an Adept for the squad hacking video.Bozorgmehr wrote...

tell them of a eclipse smuggling depot. Knowing eclipse and their love
for this mech, the 3 hoped that they could set a small YMIR battle or even sell them...to a junky yard.
Smuggling Depot
And
again the game Ai showing some glitchs, like the first YMIR that I
hacked and he just ignored it and keep walking toward the crates(my plan was
to hack one, so they could draw the others attention, while i focused on
take another one down). Even when I hacked it, he kept shooting the krates and I don't think it was because he was far away from the others. When I hacked the first YMIR, he was on the range of the others 2, but it ignored them. When I hacked the YMIR that was hitting legion, he went straight to the other at center. What may have happened is that on this mission, you can only draw the attention of 1 YMIR, while the others will resume the destruct crates routine, even when you hack it....and here I was hoping to see some 3 some action

@ Aynien: The smuggling depot is indeed weird when it comes to AI behavior - there must be some way to draw the attention of all three mechs. Dunno how though.
@ kstarler: Yeah, Dominate isn't very CQC friendly and it's really annoying when dominated enemies refuse to play ball. Best targets are the no-cover folk (Krogan, Pyros, Vanguards); dominating enemies who haven't got past the YMIR (Garrus RM) cannot get cover near Shep, they'll most likely be pinned down like Jaroth in the end.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna give it another try on Jack's recruitment mission. The multiple levels may make it more viable. Plus, there are more shotgun enemies.Bozorgmehr wrote...

I had probably 10 minutes of cumulative footage trying to get it to work in the first hallway on Kasumi's mission, but the guys would just stand behind the dividing wall until the dominate would ware off. Granted, it would distract the YMIR as long as I didn't shoot it, but the minute I would start shooting, it would re-target to me.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, I tried staying on the upper level on Garrus' mission and dominating guys behind the YMIR, but they would literally run past him into the base, where they would then lose the dominate and make things very difficult.

This is Huckebein's vid in Kasumi's LM.
He shoots the mech's left arm, so Shepard doesn't get a rocket in the chest during the brief moment the robot has its "free will" back. Awesome.
Thanks for posting jwalker.
Here's a follow up to that one:
Most of my old AI Hacking videos are on my Haestrom and Dantius Shotgun Engineer clips. My other recent clip is on the Migrant Fleet: (Tali does primary AI Hacking, Zaeed provides support fire, Tara Shepard takes care of the rest).
