I've just downloaded Lair of the Shadow Thief, and want to install it. However, when I click on the file, it starts to work, then says I need install ME2. It is installed. Should the DLC be placed in a specific folder somewhere before I try to run it? Right now it's simply in a download folder I have. Thanks for any help!

My ME2 is installed on my K partition, not plain old C drive. This shouldn't cause any issues. Nothing says I need to install ME2 in default location. Other DLC has installed just fine.

OK... so I just installed over the previous install (husband said my Windows account was not a local admin when originally installed) and then ran the DLC installer again. This time it worked. Also noticed that it tried to patch to 1.02 at the beginning of the installer, so it looks like you might not need to patch prior to this DLC like others have suggested. I already had patched though.
Anyhow... maybe this will help others.

Yup, ME2 was always on my K: drive. I downloaded LotSB on Chrome and had no trouble with that. When I clicked the .exe to install, though, I just kept getting the error message that ME2 needed to be installed. In any case, this is way too much work for dlc. The Dragon Age way of doing it is much easier, but the whole thing is just ridiculous.
