I'm talking to my friends yesterday about video games and he recommends DA:O to me.
He explained it and it sounded pretty cool.

So then I asked him if it had newgame + and he said no. Naturally, I then said the game could go eat [sammiches] and bunch of other stuff about why it's retarded.

It really is a shame when I can't get a game because of this. It sounded fun but [forget] that.

Just to check, I looked under the unlockable section on gamespot. No newgame + but the game had DLC out the [wazoo].
Nice one.

I sure do love paying for things I should've already gotten with the game.

I have no idea what you just wrote. I gather you are unhappy in some way with Dragon Age Origins, but what, exactly, is the gist of your complaint?

Just because DA:O doesn't have newgame+ doesn't mean that the actual game itself is bad if a small feature like that makes u hate a game well I really don't know if video gaming is for u at all ?

Besides what sort of games do u like ? If u like well written, loot heavy, western, medieval RPGs how about u give it try

But only if they have NG+?

Why is newgame+ important when the game is quite possibly longer than other games including their newgame+ stuff? There's replay value too. This is an amazing game in a huge world, numerous quests, tons of fights, and remarkable characters. It's a "real" RPG, though, so if you want mostly a Diabloesque hack'n'slash, there are probably better choices (mind you, I loved Diablo 2, but DA is a bit of a different genre).

As for the DLC, you'd probably buy the Ultimate Edition anyway, and it includes all the DLC and the expansion.

Won't matter since he isn't serious anyway. His intent is only to provoke people.

Is there a point to this thread?

No.

On the off chance this rant is actually serious, I'll leave it open to civil discourse.

As for the NG+, I don't see the beef here. It's easy enough to mod your game (if you're on PC) to make yourself overpowered, so what's the big deal? As noted, the game's one helluva long one anyway, so I personally can't see the lack of NG+ as a big problem. Whatever floats your boat though.

Bringer of Ze Chaos... Despite popular belief on this thread, I can rather quite relate (to a degree) what you are complaining about. Yes, the lack of new game plus feature is rather irritating, as to at least half the RPGs I have played had some possibility of a new game plus. More irritating to me is the lack of preparing your character for tougher scenes via grinding in case your characters were completely underleveled or undergeared... But I have to agree with everyone else on here, in the sense that you shouldn't let these distractions dissuade you from playing the game.

You might actually find it quite enjoyable that it shall outweigh the two cons.. Just I recommend you play on the PC (Windows I recommend) in case you might want to "fix" the game via mods.

What is NG+ anyway? I've read people complaining about it as if its some kind of gamebreaker but I don't even know what it is.

It doesn't make sense to me as a deal-breaker. I can understand *wanting* NG+, but "I won't buy this game because I can't replay it as the same character" seems just a little childish, as complaints go. Why worry about the lack of NG+ in a game you might not enjoy playing the first time through?

@HolyAvenger:

Replaying the game with the same character from the beginning, with all your gear and experience from the prior playthrough.

And the point of that is? If you want a victory lap with an overpowered character, there's Awakenings. The essence of replayability for me is new characters and new choices, which DAO serves up in tons.

There are plenty of possible reasons to wish a New Game Plus. If you have ever played Chrono Trigger for one, you would certainly appreciate the value of a hard played fighter. I can name two reasons:

1. To observe the power of your character during the game when he/she is at the climax. Just a nice thing to see the gargantuan and gaping difference between the power of your character during the beginning and during the end.

2. Makes a wonderful incentive for trying the harder difficulties with your powerful character. I for one would like to see if I can handle the hardest difficulty with my character at his greatest potential.

Fair enough, its a feature, but it hardly sounds like a big deal to me. Cakewalk combat, shmeh. I don't understand all these posts (there've been some in the DA2 forum) utterly vilifying BioWare for not putting it in. Who cares, much rather they'd spend the resources making the game better.

Indeed, if you can mod your game through PC then New Game Plus really doesn't do anything, especially if you can use a mod to increase your wallet size as well as leveling your character..... Forgot... That brings me to  V

Reason 3 is to allow your character to obtain in the New Game Plus what he/she failed to obtain the first time around.

Edit: But I DO feel bad for those who feel left out without mods due to playing the console. I used to be one of them.

Wouldn't it make more sense to see if you can handle the hardest difficulty without a maxed-out character? That's what I'd find a lot more challenging and enjoyable.

I do have a problem with this and as a moderator you should too.

Circumventing the language filter has no place in a forum that MAY be sensitive to what he/she has written. Is this not a violation of the TOS (let me refresh your mind, it is under section 11 of the rules of conduct)?

I am getting tired of ill mannered postings in the forums in general that do not remain civil both in verbiage and intent.

I think you should reconsider your decision on leaving this post up in its current state.

Yes that's true, and please do trust me I have considered this. I even intend on smiling my way through GOA and WH on Hard or Nightmare for the sake of the achievements. Perhaps that might be something Bioware could consider in the future, at least for those like myself.

But to me and apparently many others here New Game Plus is a very instinctual feature to go with certain RPGs, granted not all of them. It would help those who are less skilled at having a chance to beat the higher difficulties. I always considered imagining playing an RPG in which by the time you had beaten the game, you could try a secret difficulty in which a New Game Plus would be required, if not threatened imminently, upon the player who chose to embrace this unholy nightmare of a challenge.
