What? Why do you automatically assume she's a **** and want to kill her? Because she's doing her job? More people in Kirkwall means more crime, more potential for dangers of all kinds, and even disease.

Man, what is with all the hostility today?! To me, all templars are a-holes who need their sticks pulled out that's shoved half way up their rears. And I never said I wanted to kill'er! Just that she wouldn't like my mage Lady Hawke! I ain't a fan of the Chantry and I am tired of hearing about Andraste (Leliana WORE.ME.OUT with that). That's all, that's it.

I think Callah is talking with Uhh.. Jonah.

I wasn't talking about you, I was talking about the poster below you.

Also, I'd like to point out that not all templars are ****s with sticks up said asses. Ser Bryant, Ser Otto, and even Carroll to a point - none of them struck me that way. Regardless, their faith is their faith. Just because someone has beliefs, it doesn't mean they're a bloody zealot.

Poor Templars, so misunderstood. I thought the Chantry and the Templars were decent people* in Dragon Age, but they represent THE MAN and remind others of Christianity, so they're evil oppressors.

*Save for their religious persecution of desire spirits.

Nah, it must makes most of them bloody zealots. :P

But eh, I digress. I am no fan of one group of people suppressing another group of people, no matter how warrented it may be.

But that's not necessarily the Templars fault - that's the teaching of the Chantry.

Templars are just doing their jobs.

Persecution of... desire spirits?

No. Don't explain it. I just... no.

That's like saying it wasn't the fault of people who where in the Na*i SS for whiping out millions of innocents because someone else was giving them the orders to do so.

Guilt by association.

Carroll was the lyrium-addled Templar who takes you across Lake Calenhad. He made the joke about being the Queen of Antiva.

If it does indeed come down to taking such sides in DA2, I'll be positively livid if I can't stand with the chantry as a mage. The templars are far more complex than simply an oppressive state regime.

The templars think they're right. Also, there's the risk of mages turning into abominations and, well, killing everybody. Not everyone can be a abomination-killer like our Warden was.

And do you think the SS thought they were wrong while they were killing all of those people? Or do you think they were just horribly misunderstood philanthropists?

I honestly don't see how anyone could claim that the Templars are merely evil overlord types after seeing what happened in the Broken Circle quest. They're desperately needed to look after the mages. If anything, they're not watching them closely enough, which is why what happened happened. And this is coming from someone who enjoys playing a mage and sympathizes with them.

I'm afraid I don't know what a SS is, maybe you can write the complete name?

Regardless, I don't think that's a fair comparation. Templars do kill mages, when they run away from the Circle or are suspect to use forbidden magic.

No one is claiming that the Templars are "merely evil orverlord types."

Now that being said; Templars are a group of people who like to repress another group of people because their faith tells them to. No question asked.

Gee, that sounds so familiar.

Wow - we're going to go there?  Image IPB

I'd argue there was a difference - a significant one.  Templars aren't herding people into gas chambers, they aren't trying  to create an empire.  They are acting more like prison guards, keeping people who may present a danger to others in check, and hunting down those who go rogue.

Now, don't get me wrong - I dislike the concept of the Chantry a whole hell of a lot.  But I place the blame where it belongs - on those setting the doctrine, not those carrying out orders.  Well, unless those orders are to commit atrocities.

And remember - not all Templars choose that life - remember Alistair?

Some templars aren't all that bad, Hadley from WH was very mellow for a templar.

Though I'm not surprised that Meredith denies the family from entering Kirkwall with the amount of refugees that came from Fereldren. The refuge camp that lays outside Kirkwall is supposedly twice as big as the city itself.

Cram a whole lot of desperate people in a city, and chaos would ensue rapidly. Not to mention, some of the refugees might carry the darkspawn taint from fleeing the Blight. Someone needed to control the situation.

*sigh* If they faith tells them to do it or not, it's still true that abominations exist and can do great evil. The Circle isn't the best way to deal with them, but at least they're trying. Many of the templars are trying to protect their families and don't forget their lyrium-thing.

Not much different from RL, actually, when there's a massive influx of refugees involved.

Except Templars are doing it because their faith tells them to and is actually the truth. Mages are dangerous, both to themselves and to others. If their powers go unchecked, they're like cat nip for demons and other Very Bad, Very Horrible things. I really don't see how lording over them to keep them and everyone safe makes them comparable to the Na*is.
