Meredith looks like a religious fanatic to me.

*sigh* If they faith tells them to do it or not, it's still true that abominations exist and can do great evil. The Circle isn't the best way to deal with them, but at least they're trying. Many of the templars are trying to protect their families and don't forget their lyrium-thing.

Oh, so only Templars have families, and not mages right? I mean, its not like mages are humans who were born, who have children and relationships, and should have the same amount of freedom and liberty as anyone else.

There are no good excuses for repression, none.

Even mages with good intentions can be dangerous. Connor was just a child. He had, at least at the time, very little knowledge in magic. He tried to help his daddy and we know what happened.

Edit: Then tell me, my friend, what do you think they should do? Not all mages are unhappy. They can lead a good enough live in the Circle and, as Dinosaur Gaider said, their family can visit them.

Let's all have blood mages and those possessed by demons frolicking around Thedas, then! Surely nothing bad could come of that.

Yeah? That's great. You get three square meals a day and a visit from your family every once in a while.

In prison.

I don't like the Chantry but if I have the choice between magery running amok and Templars being ****s... I'd side with the Templars. Provided Hawke gets to see the dangers of magic, I mean... I wouldn't want to metagame that decision.

We've had endless arguments about this before. Suffice it to say that there are alternatives to chantry repression.

That comparison is very apt, as opposed to the one about the N*zis. It is rather like a prison. That said, would you condone letting all of the prisoners free (murderers, rapists, et cetera) due to the fact that they're being woefully repressed?

She sounds like a pain in the ass or at least an obstacle.

lol maybe we should refrain from speculating about her until we know more than just what she looks like, her rank, and the fact that she's the one in charge of the decision to keep refugees from swarming the city.

I intend to play a well-intentioned mage, I'm interested what part she'll play in his story but I really have no idea yet.

I'm guessing they hate your character and want him to die. :<

While ideally it would be done without the antagonism (and I guess that's built into such a system), I can't think of a better one off the top of my head.

Me too. My mage Hawke will be a Spirit Healer, meaning a total bottom gentle, caring soul, etc etc etc. I want to see what Meredith have to say for herself.

Exactly.

Blame the ones who declared them criminals.

Or find a way to explain to the innocents who get hurt because some random mage goes abomination.

Fanatics are fanatic about a fanatic. It's not really surprising.

Did you really just compare people like Wynne to murderers, rapists, and the like? And what about the children in the tower? What about them? Are they rapists and murderers as well?

Hm? Oh, I do believe you missed the jist of my comparison. I wasn't saying that mages are rapists and murderers. Oh no. I was saying that they have the potential of being very dangerous and causing great harm to the general public if they were released from the Tower. As would prisoners, if released from prison at random.

I also think the Templars are a lot more complex than many people on this board make them out to be. I think we'll meet a pretty sympathetic version in Wesley.
