Can't say I am very happy about this, at all. *Sigh* Considering BioWare said they were included with the SE - at best that's misleading, at worst false advertising.

I expect EA support will be getting a barrage of complaints from those that ordered the SE from a retailer not participating in the pre-order promotions, read that they were included and then found out they were not when it arrived.

Why BioWare/EA didn't think "Hmm, the SE is a guaranteed pre-order, I know, let's include the pre-order items" I will never understand.

Oh well, at least I still have Ser Isacc's armor and the SE digital armoury "exclusive" (apparently to be sold as DLC later...) items.

...did you read the post that says it wasn't Bioware or EA's decision, or do you think CP is fibbing?

Amazon.de says:

Bestellen Sie jetzt
Dragon Age II für PC oder Xbox 360 vor und Sie erhalten einen Code mit dem Sie das "Dragon Age II Vorbesteller-Paket", bestehend aus zwei Ingame-Items herunterladen können. Zur Aktionsseite › [/b]

Yes, I am fully aware that it was Amazon's decision for them specifically not to offer the pre-order bonuses.

However I see no valid reason why EA/BioWare could not provide the pre-order code in the box for the retail SE, which are guaranteed to be pre-orders anyway.

Plus, assuming Chris was aware that the pre-order bonuses were dependant on retailers participation he should not have just said that it was included in the Signature Edition. Whatever way you look at that - it is misleading.

If Chris had written They are included in the Signature Edition, when ordered from a participating retailer. I would not even have had a problem with this, as the retailer did state they were not offering them. But he did not.

At the end of the day, it is a disappointment - one caused at least in part due to BioWare stating it was included with the SE and not specifying that it was dependant on retailer participation.

Personally I blame Bioware. They did exactly what I said they would do they came up with a half assed way of getting you lot to order the game blind by a certain date.

You can not blame retailers if Bioware has messed up things so retailers have no idea what the hell they are up to. That is Biowares fault for tricking folks into pre ordering way to early. They messed around with an established selling process and instead of putting stuff in the box as they should, expected the retailers to do their work no matter how convoluted it became.

I do not blame Amazon they just said stuff it we are fed up being messed around we get nothing out of it so no more, to Bioware messing us about.

I think the only way to guarantee anything is to buy directly from EAstore then they have no excuse.

I tried too; but, everytime I checked to pre-order the PC DVD Rom wasn't available from their website.  It keep showing the direct drive for purchase.  I didn't want this and went with amazon.  I pre-ordered DAO from EA when pre-orders where made available.

I agree with you sevalaricgirl.

And would not EA love that.

Perhaps instead they could include the bonus stuff in the box rather than jerking retailers around and customers. OR just stop tricking folk into ordering stuff they can not deliver!

So glad I have not bothered with the game as yet, I will feel less cheated getting it pre owned for buttons. It looks like they can not even organise how to sell stuff, let alone make a game that will work. So much for their promise to give you stuff if you ordered last month OOPS. Another broken promise and they have not even launched the game lol!

As far as I can see it is not the Bioware/EA team that have broken any promises, it is Amazon UK and other various duff retailers that have dropped the ball, and for no apparent reason.

EDIT: I've also PMd Chris Priestly asking him if it would be possible to arrange something like sending out the bonus item redeem codes to those people who can provide evidence that they have been screwed over. Waiting on a response. I don't see why they shouldn't though...

I don't, I blame Amazon UK it was they alone who decided 'No, we aren't going to take part'.

Now while this is their choice to make, it was also their choice not to tell their customers this, why? Because they knew that people would cancel their preorders when they realised that they would not be getting the stuff the paid good money for.

You can not blame retailers if Bioware has messed up things so retailers have no idea what the hell they are up to.

Considering only Amazon Uk seems to have this 'problem'...

I wasn't tricked into anything.

How about the money from people who have now cancelled their order, because of this?

All a retailer wants is to sell a box and make profit. Its bad enough shoving in bonus items , but if its exclusive to say amazon they will play ball. The problem here is that Amazon has already been messed around once changing all preorders from vanilla to special preorders. Then Bioware messes them around wanting them to do non exclusive codes. Quite understandably Amazon told them to get lost they are doing work unpaid for BW (which BW could do by putting the codes in the box themselves, Except that would cost them time and money)

I agree if it was me in amazons shoes I would say it is nothing to do with us sort your own exclusives out and do not bother us again.

The bottom line is who promised this bonus if you ordered in January Amazon or Bioware.

That was actually Bioware. You have them to blame if they break their promise. Not Amazon they did not promise you jack.

If BW simply do their own work and drop the codes in the box at the factory or send them to folk who ordered off amazon. Amazon does not work for EA or Bioware and are not responsible for their promise. Only what Amazon promises and they did not promise anything extra.

This is my first time posting in a thread here - sorry if I mess it up somehow.

I have had a slightly different response from amazon.co.uk (I'm only going to include the relevant parts):

Dear Customer

Further to your email, I have checked with the website and found that there is a promotional offer for the item "Dragon Age 2 - Signature Edition (PC DVD)"  in Amazon.com and other websites.

I need to investigate this issue with the appropriate department further.

As soon as we receive a response from them we will let you know.

This generally takes short time and so we will contact you again with an update by February 08, 2011. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this delay may cause.

The rest of it was just the standard 'thanks for bringing it to our attention' and apologising for the wait while they look into it. I don't imagine anything will come of this, but there you have it.

To Summarise:

- The pre-order bonuses (Fadeshear Sword and Lion of Orlais Shield) are not included (as confirmed via PM) with the Signature Edition, despite BioWare origionally saying they were. :(

- Amazon.co.uk are now potentially looking into why they are not offering the pre-order bonuses, due to Amazon offering it them other countries.

Thanks for the update BT, saves me having to read 10 pages!
What I can't get my head around is the fact that it is a Bioware product, Bioware packaging and Bioware codes to unlock stuff. Why are there exceptions to the rule of "if you pre-ordered SE, you get all the extra stuff"? This baffles me greatly! In fact it vexes me.
I am greatly vexed.
This is far more frustrating than the demo thing...

No problem. :)
I agree, goodness only knows what happens in the murky world of EA/BioWare advertising, product packaging, etc. :P

Unless all copies of the SE have already been manufactured and packed, I don't see why they couldn't just put two codes on a card instead of one for the SE.

Or alternatively looking at it from a web-development point of view, assuming the SE and regular edition have different codes for input to the BSN (like for example regular Origins, and the Ultimate Edition) why not just get it to unlock the two items for your account when the SE code is registered here?

I agree. I wish I could sit down and wait peacefully after buying the SE, and now I'm afraid I bought a trap.

I'm still waiting answers from amazon.fr and thehut.com.

I can confirm that thehut.com are not offering this promotion, I asked them if they were a while back.
Amazon.fr should be however as they are on the retailer list (click Pre-order now).

That would indeed be a perfect solution, hopefully Bioware will come around to do this if Amazon.co.uk does not include the preorder items. Those who pre-ordered the normal edition can still switch their retailer.

Thank you BTCentral.
I ordered another SE copy on fnac.com. Still waiting.
Actually, there is no retailer in France where you can get the two pre-order items, digital copies aside. There is no mention of those items on the listed retailers' websites.

Great.
