I'm tempted to write an email of fury like the rest of you guys but I'm afraid they'll be so DIM they'll cancel my signature edition and I'll be further screwed.
They still have time to get a hold of these codes right? Especially if they're emailing them out on March 11th. They should realise they have quite a few angry customers that in the future could easily go elsewhere and start running about fixing it.

I'm not fussed about the sword and shield themselves - it's the principle of the thing with me, too.

Whether the retailers knew about them beforehand I couldn't say. It's possible (or probably likely) that they did but were restricted from advertising them until they had been officially revealed. Then again maybe EA sprang these promotional items on the retailers at the same time they were announced on the DA2 website. Either way it doesn't really matter - we were told that everyone would get the sword and shield regardless of where they pre-ordered, and now that doesn't look to be quite the case.

I doubt anything will come it though. I sincerely hope Bioware can find a way to give those of us who preordered via Amazon the additional goodies, even though this is not their fault.

I believe I'm being dealt with by an email "call center" (probably in india from the agent's name and typos), so I guess there's no way to actually get this to someone who can really help.Rest assured, we have not received any information from the manufacturer to list these free bonus content for preordering on our website for Dragon Age 2 . As soon as we receive the information from the manufacturer, we will add that information to our website

Regardless of the outcome lets hope this whole fiasco will make Bioware/EA think twice about these type of pre-order promotions in future, somehow I doubt it. Here's a novel idea, make sure each new copy of a game bought are the same, therefore avoiding messes like this and not pissing off sections of people who buy your games and keep you in business.

Amazon also helpfully included a section asking for a reason for the cancellation in which I included the quote from Chris.

If I had not ordered the SE, I would be switching retailers too (though I did not order with Amazon, but another retailer not offering them).John Forseti wrote...
Just cancelled my preorder from amazon and switched to GAME, worked out a quid cheaper aswell since standard delivery is free with GAME, unlike amazon.

Unfortunately I am rather locked in to my order as the SE is no longer available elsewhere...

I figured I would post this here too:
If you want to show support for those of us missing out on the pre-order bonuses (even if you are getting them), despite BioWare saying everyone would get them, then please add this code to your signature.
You'll then have this snazzy banner to show that you support BioWare keeping their word (complete with a link to the post stating everyone would get it):

No, it's targeted at BioWare for a very simple reason:Dave of Canada wrote...
I don't understand the purpose of the banner, shouldn't it targeted toward Amazon if they are the ones not supporting it?
They were the ones that stated every pre-order would be getting the items no matter what retailer they ordered from.
If they had said, available with every pre-order depending on retailer participation, then that would be a different story, but this is clearly not the case (just click the link). That and it sounds like a fair few retailers (at least in the EU) have not even been informed of the promotions, if you read other threads on this topic.

Awesome! Why should some people loose out having pre-ordered well in advance, then having EA/Bioware make the DLC items optional depending on the retailer leaving us no option but to stick with our original pre-order or risk loosing the SE edition.
This is NOT the retailer's fault, it is EA/Bioware not managing their promotions properly.

How about this then:Dave of Canada wrote...
And if a retailer refuses to do the preorder incentive, it's Bioware's fault? I don't understand your logic here.
$statement = "items with every pre-order";
if ($statement == "items with every pre-order") {
echo "Not dependant on the retailer";
} else {
echo "Dependant on the retailer";
}
Get it now? That's about as logical as it gets
That, and if a retailer has not even been notified of the promotions, how exactly is it their fault?

That's silly, I can understand being upset over not getting the item but making a banner that blames people that have nothing to do with it seems illogical. They can't see the future, they can't see if a retailer will refuse the preorder incentives. If they had their way, Amazon.co.uk would be offering it.
Though I guess you can play the blame game if it makes you feel better.

My local EB games isn't notified about the promotions either, doesn't mean there isn't any.

This is how it all went down in my opinion:
- I pre-order the game from Amazon.co.uk in November 2010. Nothing yet mentioned about DLC items only available at "participating retailers"
- Signature Edition pre-order date passes, only then are the new items announced.
- EA/Bioware gives retailers the option to opt in or out of the promotion (why not just include it for all pre-orders?)
- Amazon.co.uk opt out
- I'm stuck because I can't change my pre-order and thus I loose out on the promotion.
Does this seem fair?

The retailer I ordered from is not Amazon, however they are not offering it either.Dave of Canada wrote...
But you're blaming the company because another company refused to do it, they -should- have the preorders but the company refuses to do it and therefor it's Bioware "breaking their promise"?
Also, in his first post in the linked topic Chris clearly stated:
The Lion of Orlais shield and the Fadeshear sword will be oonly available to players who pre-order Dragon Age II before launch. They are included in the Signature Edition.
This is not the case, Chris should not have said something was included if it was not - so yes in my opinion it is BioWare "breaking their promise", they said it was included with the Signature Edition, therefore it should be.
You can disagree if you like, but BioWare clearly stated it was included with the Signature Edition, which later turned out not to be true.
Why they can not just put the card in the box for retail SE pre-orders is well and truly beyond me. That would be by far the simplest way of keeping their word.

Does this sound fair?
That's exactly my situation, word for word.
In all honesty it seems like both parties are at fault here - AmazonUK for being very poor on handling the situation and Bioware for arranging this promo in this way. It should have been a code on a card in the SE box that unlocked this content - that would have been fool proof. Somehow communications have failed, but With AmazonUK saying "no one told us about this" and Bio saying "we told them about this" it's difficult to know exactly whose fault it is.
The sad thing is that this was meant to be a reward, and thank you to loyal fans and instead it's become somehting that has upset us.

It is extremely frustrating that they are not communicating anything to us regarding this.
They should be doing all they can to fix this, but sadly we are in the minority (they care mostly about their Gamestop customers in the US by the look of things) so we're most likely screwed.
Thanks a lot Bioware! Much appreciated.

I've no idea who's to blame for me now not being able to get these items without canceling the SE and pre-ordering again from a different retailer, either way I lose out on some free stuff (more if I cancel the SE).
Edit: Is a list anywhere of what is actually in the SE.....I know the extra character and soundtrack are supposed to be in with some extra items, but since two items have now apparently been removed I'm unsure what's now actually in the SE.

At the rate this is going, SE will end up having less content than the normal version...Here you go little punter, here's your SE Edition. Oh yeah, what's in it? Nothing, just a box label that reads "Signature Edition. Oh wow, thanks a lot!

Exactly. BioWare said they were included with the SE, they never said it was dependant on retailers therefore it should not be.earl of the north wrote...

It seems now many people in Europe will not be getting the pre-order items looking between all the topics on the issue... but hey, it's OK. Because the US customers still get them, and I am sure that's BioWare's biggest target market. <_<
Anyhow. What you will be getting with the SE:
- The Exiled Prince, including a new companion, Sebastian Vael
- Downloadable Soundtrack
- Digital armory featuring:
Apostate's Courage (Staff)
Seeker's Bulwark (Shield)
Adder of Antiva (Bow)
Might of the Sten (2H Sword)
A Ring (No confirmed details about it are currently known)
What is not included (despite BioWare saying it was):
Fadeshear (Sword)
The Lion of Orlais (Shield)
