By the sounds of it Amazon might not know anything until they get the game in stock, which may be too late. Did they give anyone any indication why they have had to extend the deadline?

That's a fair point - if Amazon didn't know about this offer then there's not much they can tell us. But if they were not aware of it, why don't they just say so? And if they have chosen not to participate, again why don't they just say so? I know these are rhetorical questions that no-one here can answer :)

Don't know about anyone else, but I've had no explanation as to why they keep putting off giving us an answer. Ah, there's nothing like being fobbed off, eh? Posted Image

Corporate legal departments are infamous for advising that they never admit to anything, however trivial, and however much it irritates their customers.  Just a sign of the times, really.

The order page says the game's being shipped on March 3rd, what's up with that?

Where are you looking?  The Amazon UK pages I viewed still say the 11th.  If someone else is getting it a week early I'm going to have some serious sulking to be getting on with.

Same here. They told me they'd get back to me today, then a few days ago they wrote again to say I'd hear from them again on the 15th. As they're changing dates for getting back to people I wonder if we're ever going to get answers from them.

After the 5th, which was the date they gave me for a reply, I gave them over a week to get back to me and heard nothing. In the end I wrote to them again on Monday and got a reply yesterday:

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk.

My name is Denis and I work in the customer escalation team.

I have reviewed our previous correspondence with you and would like to offer my sincere apologies for the misunderstanding.

I have contacted our video game department for information regarding a pre-order promotion for ''Dragon Age 2 (Xbox 360)''.

They have informed me that other Amazon sites may offer different pre-order incentives however this does not mean Amazon.co.uk will, they are currently not offering this for the UK.

I cannot give any further information on why they will not offer a pre-order incentive as this is a business decision taken by our business team.

I hope the above helps.

I'm fed up of this run around. I'll contact them again to inform them that I remain very unhappy about this, but I admit defeat. I'll never pre-order from Amazon again... and I do hope BioWare/EA make more effort to ensure these promotions are universal in the future.

Well, that's that, then - it was indeed Amazon's decision to withhold the offer. Thanks, Uncanny, for posting their response to you.

Still, it would have been nice if we'd been told of participating retailers prior to the SE deadline. I don't blame Chris Priestly, he was only going by what EA told him. Universal inclusion of promotions would be great, but failing that EA should really work to get this kind of information to us in a timeous manner so that we know what our options are.

Yes. The only thing I would say is that I notice he said they're 'currently not' offering it.

I think it is probably too late in the day for them to opt in now. But it is worth their knowing how unhappy we are and that they have lost our business because of this fiasco.

Still doesn't mean they knew about the promotion, he just basically dodged the question. Odd that it took two emails to get them to say that too. Its still a stupid mess of a situation that should never have happened. There still might be time for them to opt in but itss only a slim chance.

Oooh, I missed that bit! Posted Image Maybe there is the teensiest smidgeon of hope after all, more so if they're getting enough complaints.

Off to the Amazon forums then to join in with this latest update. Might even e-mail them again just now to voice further irritation rather than wait for their next 'reply date'.

Thanks again, Uncanny.

Edit: I don't know, the last comment they made in that e-mail is: 'I can't give further information on why they will not offer a pre-order incentive as this is a business decision taken by our business team.'

Sounds very much like it was down to them and not EA.

Just got a reply:

"Dear Customer

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk to bring this to our attention.

Please accept our sincere apologise for this situation.

Further to your email, I have checked with the website and found that there is a promotional offer for the item "Dragon Age 2 - Signature Edition (PC DVD)" in Amazon.com and other websites.

We would like to advise that your query is still being investigated.

As soon as we receive a response from them we will let you know.

This generally takes short time and so we will contact you again with an update by February 24, 2011. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this delay may cause.

I understand the inconvenience caused for being asked to wait further without an immediate action.

However, please note that this additional period will give us the time to take right actions upon your order.

Hope this matter is resolved to your fullest satisfaction.

Thank you for your patience and for bringing this matter to our attention.

Warmest regards,

Agniraj R.

Amazon.co.uk"

This is exactly the same email they sent me last week when they asked me to wait for another week... looks like this creep took one look at the release date and decided that it would be easier to fob me and others off with constant requests to wait... I replied requesting he escalate this to his supervisor as he does not seem to be dealing with this at all and just treating me like a idiot.

Looks like we'll have to accept defeat on this one...

Considering the other reply was pretty straight forward it seems daft for someone else to give a 'different' answer.

The very idea of universal promo items was a bit silly business-wise if you think about it. But it was still shoddy to take away our choice of retailer when it came to the promo due to the announcement being made after the SE order deadline.

It could well be as you say but to me it comes across as a non-answer and just jargon to get out of giving any sort of actual answer.

Either way our chances are very slim, not 100% dead but slim never the less.

Hmm . . . yes, I see what you're saying, Druss. It could just be another fob-off line considering that no-one else in the customer rep department seems to know what's happening.

However, this is the most that we've gotten from Amazon so far, so unless anyone hears different from them (other than the standard 'wait till we get back to you . . . AGAIN'), I'm going to take it that it was their decision.

Well, this is the for the signature edition. The regular edition does say it comes out on the 11th.

@ silver-crescent

i pre-ordered the sig-editon, dispatch estimate is the 10th. 3rd seems a bit too early, especially seeing how you have to register online in order to play and the server won't be up before the 8th ^_^

Yeah I do think it must be an error, but mine (PS3 version) does say it ships on the 3rd.

Grrr I was really hoping Amazon were eventually going to sort this out but that's looking unlikely now. This is the 1st time I've ever preordered a game and I'm definitely feeling disinclined to do so again.

I wouldn't worry so much about these promotional items from amazon.uk if I were you. They are kind of a slowpokes regarding things like release date updates, pre-order availability etc. And many times they don't show what promotional items they will be giving on their order pages, most likely for the above reason. Regardless, usually if amazon.uk's US sibling is among the announced shops giving specified promotional items then uk has them too. Codes for which can found inside the retail box, or sent on email on release date. Most recent example - LittleBigPlanet 2 and Ratchet & Clank costumes codes.

P.S. Don't bother contacting service center - they know nothing.

Okay. So I took one last stab at contacting them last night. I wrote:

Regarding the decision of amazon.co.uk not to opt in to the Dragon Age 2 promotion offering the Fadeshear Sword and Lion of Orlais shield:

I understand that this promotion is not currently being offering by Amazon UK. I understand that this is a decision which has been taken by your business team. I'm not happy about it but I do understand.

But, because the promotion was announced AFTER the cut off date for the Signature Edition of the game, those who have pre-ordered this edition with you will now feel that they are being denied content purely for choosing to pre-order with Amazon. The choice to opt out will doubtless prompt a significant number of those affected to place pre-orders with other retailers in the future.

I received their reply this morning:

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk in relation to this.

My name is Cormac and I work in the customer escalations team.

I'm sorry to hear that this experience with Amazon.co.uk has not been satisfactory. I understand that pre-ordering the item with Amazon.co.uk instead of another website has meant that you were unable to avail of a pre-order incentive code.

I have contacted our business team in relation to this. They have informed me that while we may have been specifically listed as participating in this offer on another site, we have no control over other websites, and can only stand over what pre-order offers are listed on Amazon.co.uk. I do not believe that this is a case of Amazon 'opting out' of the promotion, as we are dependent on our suppliers to give us these codes.

Obviously, this impacts on your customer experience. We are happy to offer pre-order incentive codes when available, and as you have said, if we have not offered a code that is offered by another retailer, then customers are likely to cancel their Amazon.co.uk order and source the item elsewhere. As a retailer, we would prefer this not to happen.

I hope we can improve our service based on yours and other customers' feedback.

So, there we are. Caught in the middle and nobody could care less.

Sigh.  So it's still a case of finger-pointing rather than anyone taking the initiative to sort it out.  You have to wonder what sort of message they think they're sending out by saying "not our fault, blame someone else".  If they think about it all, that is.

Every single time I have ordered from Amazon the service has been first class but this has been an absolute joke.

I'll probably not pre-order Mass Effect 3 from them now if this is the sort of thing that might happen.

Me either.

'If enough of you complain we won't bother doing anything to help you this time but we promise to try and not let it happen again' really isn't going to cut it for me. <_<

Elton John is dead wrote...

But Yousuf said while grinning "Me be Yousuf, me say no pre-order."
Also Chris Priestly said that the sword and shield are not included at all. Even if someone bribed Yousuf to say "Me be Yousuf, me say pre-order bonuses now included. Ha ha ha ha! Me be Yousuf - warrior of the darkness!!!" it sounds like they won't be.

I also admit that the sword sounds good and I am one who also pre-ordered the SE from Amazon.co.uk and I don't see why these codes shouldn't be included. If Priestly's post is anything to go by, then Amazon.co.uk decided they didn't want these pre-order bonuses to be included which is really an Epic Fail IMO.

I guess Yousuf was lying through his teeth when he said he was looking into this problem. Go to Hell Yousuf!

Yousuf in Hell for lying. Denice is the one laying down in agony. I doubt these are even their true names, are these people even real? Those emails could just be templates that the same person is sending out. Amazon has always been helpful in the past, I guess it's sucking right now.
