Amazon.co.uk not supporting pre-order bonuses

This is their reply.
Thank you for your email.
I can confirm that there is a pre order bonus for the PC format of the game, however its not something that we are offering. Unfortunately at the moment we are only offering the pre order bonus for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
I apologise for any disappointment this may cause.
If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
I have written back asked for an explanation as BIoware make it clear it's available for all platforms and purchasers so why should the retailer make the decision.
I have already ordered the SIG Edition from Game UK so on this basis I will not be getting the pre order bonuses.

okay, but amazon.com and -.de DO list sword and shield as Pre-Order-Bonus. Amazon.com also points out that they can terminate this offer anytime they want.
@ dancingcrab
could you post your messages to amazon? Would help to avoid additional confusion.
btw: thanks for pointing this out.

This evening I had a reply saying that they were not running the promotion.
So unless the code is included in the retail boxed version of the Signature Edition it looks like i'll be missing out.
It would be really nice to get some clarification on if it is included in the box with the Signature Edition or not.
If not then at the moment it seems the only way to get the pre-order bonuses for the PC version in the UK would be via Digital Download...

To the OP.
I think perhaps they and you have confused each other.
There is a marked difference between Day One DLC and Promotional DLC. Day One DLC is DLC you are given on release with the game and is usually restricted to specific versions of the game ie a Collectors Edition of the game.
Promotional DLC is usually DLC that is given when you purchase/pre-order a game from a specific retailer as a bonus for buying from that retailer; say if you buy a version from Steam or from Game.co.uk.
When you messaged Amazon.co.uk I would be willing to bet that they thought/assumed that you were inquiring about additional Promotional DLC that they were getting and not Day One DLC that will most likely be included in the box.
As Bioware dont seem to be having Retailer Specific Promotional DLC this time around but did with DAO - this is likely what is causing the confusion.
I do not know for sure that this is the case but I have a strong feeling it is.
I made a very similar point earlier in the thread, discussing how Shale was day one DLC and that the sword and shield are pre-order bonuses. As pre-order bonuses, Amazon.co.uk would likely be required to have knowledge of the bonuses because the keys are probably not going to be included in the box (again, see previous post I linked above).
I definitely agree with your point about retailers not being very smart.

Your first point is exactly on the money - Amazon.com are clearly promoting the pre-order bonuses. I didn't know about the German site, good work.
Regarding my original email, here it is:

Comments:Hello there.
According to its website, 'Dragon Age II' is offering two bonus items (a sword and a shield) for anyone who pre-orders it. I have pre-ordered DA2: Signature Edition for the PC, and would like to confirm that I will indeed be receiving the additional bonuses.
Additionally, I have just pre-ordered 'Deus Ex: Human Revolution' through you. Similar to DA2, DE:HR is offering a pre-order bonus, known as the 'Explosive Mission Pack', and www.deus.ex advertises Amazon.co.uk as participating. Can you please confirm this?
The US version of Amazon, Amazon.com, includes specific pre-order bonus details on the product page. It would be great if Amazon.co.uk would include these.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks.

It makes sense that BioWare would automatically bundle the pre-order items with the Sig Edition as it's by default a pre-order.

However as I see it anyone who now orders the normal edition from Game UK on the PC won't get them at the moment.
Perhaps EA's Eu team can sort this for new purchasers.

I preordered both DAO and Mass Effect 2; and with both games I got the preorder bonus DLC IN THE BOX. Not from the retailer themselves.
In fact if I am remembering rightly when I asked about DAO DLC I just got the usual "dhurr?" looks.
I really really think that this is a case of the retailers just being idiots and not knowing the difference between day one DLC (including preorder bonus DLC) and retailer specific promotional DLC. And as Amazon.com see to have their heads screwed on right about it - that there is even more proof that the .co.uk division of the company are just being idiots.

HI, Yes for the SE it will be pre packaged.
Especially considering my retailer said they're not offering the pre-order bonuses earlier today, so anyone ordering the regular edition would be completely out of luck.
As it's included in the SE, I am happy.
Yes, Lenzman confirmed it is pre-packaged with the SE a few posts above.-Zorph- wrote...
So just to double check, I pre-ordered the DA2 Sig Edition from Amazon.com a few weeks ago, and the pre-order bonuses and what-not are surely in there? I know it lists it on the '.com' site, but I just want to double check with you guys.

Okay, I promise I'll let this drop after this, but you had the codes for the Memory Band (DA), Lion's Paw (DA), and the Inferno Armour (ME2) in the box from Amazon.co.uk?
The Stone Prisoner (DA), Blood Armour (DA) and Cerebus Network (ME2) all came in the box, I know, but I'm very surprised if the promotional items did.

Just go back to releasing a single version of the game please, no matter where we buy it from.
Any DLC you can add later and charge for (if you must) but this makes things so bloody confusing for us all.

It's likely just a system limitation that they had to work around too, and are doing it to try and not confuse people wondering why they can't order the SE.

While Chris didn't explicitly state it was included in the box there, he did say it was included. If they said it was and it turned out to be a retailer specific bonus which that did not include... then that'd be false advertising and would also result in a lot of unhappy people.Chris Priestly wrote...
The Lion of Orlais shield and the Fadeshear sword will be oonly available to players who pre-order Dragon Age II before launch. They are included in the Signature Edition.
SE is guaranteed to be a pre-order anyway, so it is logical for it to be included.
Other than that I assume Lenzman PM'd someone from BioWare - I tired PMing Chris asking this a while back but never got a reply, maybe Lenzman had better luck.

No not from Amazon.co.uk lol. Ive only ever used amazon for books I cant get anywhere else; for some reason I have never really liked Amazon - they are supposed to be cheaper and often they are not.
No I preordered from my local games store, GameStation.
And yes I am fairly certain that the promo items were in the box - just checked and thats where they are; in the box. For both DAO and ME2.
The staff in my local gamestation store are too stupid to be trusted to properly distribute the DLC on their own; you just wouldnt get it; I have discovered with my difficulty in preordering DA2 from them.

If the codes are indeed in the case for the SE, then that would save me from dealing with stupid moron employees at gamestop who don't know a DLC code from a gameshark code (ALTHOUGH, the employees I've dealt with at gamestop recently are a bit smarter and actually know what the **** it is I'm talking about).
But still I want DIRECT confirmation from Bioware themselves, DIRECTLY stating that the codes are indeed in the case for the SE. Not some quoted reply the devs made specifically to the question as to whether or not the SE is included in the offer. THAT is open to interpretation.
