I know this has been asked before, but I am having a really hard time deciding what to do for my main Shep, any suggestions/opinions?

I went with both. Liara in ME1 and Tali in ME2. It's going pretty good thus far.

This is the beauty of multiple playthroughs. I romanced Tali on my first run through ME2, then I romanced Liara on my next run of ME1 and ME2, then Miranda the playthrough after.

Why would you ask other people what you would like?  Also, 3,2,1 before this thread becomes a breeding ground for rabid argumentative fangirls and boys.

I know I could just do multiple playthroughs, but I like to role play (Hence the RPG), and because of that, I tend to have a "canon" Shepard.



Both are brilliantly written characters, and each have something going for them.



Tali is very naive in a cute way, and expresses interest in you no matter if you romance her or not (which actually adds a little bit of guilt)



Liara is very intelligent and attractive; Plus she plays a major role throughout the story, even bringing you back to life.



I just can't decide!

I went with Liara in the first game, Tali in the second. (For my LotSB playthrough, I downloaded a save game of someone who had remained loyal to Liara.)

I know people are saying "make up your own mind", but Whenever I cannot come to a decision myself, I look to others for input, which is why I didn't ask for an answer, just input, suggestion and opinions.

Did this with one of my shepards; awaiting the fireworks.  I may grab Jack for the hat trick.

Liara is the most sensible choice of the two if you want your character to have children. Also, you don't have to worry about her dying of infection because you wanted to touch her skin.

Besides, the romancing of Liara at the end of Lair of the Shadow Broker is probably the best so far in the game. Or at least, it didn't have any dialog which made me cringe (though I've only done it from the femShep perspective... my maleShep is shagging Miranda).

Consider Tali as your little sister. Take your friendship with her right up to the point of romancing her (I believe this starts in the conversation when or immediately after she suggests she trusts you enough to join suits...this is where the femShep dialog tree ends, in which my femShep ended it with "I trust you too").

A few questions actually 1) If you show no interest in Tali, do people like Kelly still say she likes you? (Because that would make me feel really guilty)

Liara moves surprisingly fast to the title of canon LI (PS3 comics as recent example). So it seems she'll have more stable future.

I don't know. I haven't gone that route with a maleShep. My canon character is a femShep (on her way through her real canon play through after a few experimental/just for fun playthroughs).

off-topic aside: damn, Kelly gets really cold if you "keep it professional" with her. A lot of her dialog is basically clipped short from the normal version, and it makes her seem snippy. Tempted to go back to that save I made just before that and patch things up with her.

Back on topic... right now, my biggest decision for my canon Shepard is whether or not to invite Liara on board the Normandy before or after the mission. I'm going to make a save just before the Reaper IFF mission to try both, so it's kind of moot, but still... I'll still do the rest of LotSB before (in fact, probably as soon as I get to Ilium), just so I can get all of the upgrades and stuff. Besides, I like that mission.

1) You can still flirt w/ Kelly if you have a LI, but you can't have dinner w/ her or have her feed your fish. 
2) Liara is the Shadow Broker now and current speculation is she will replace Council/TIM in ME3 as quest giver, but that's not for certain. 

Tali will fawn all over Shep and worship the ground he walks on, (as well as make a pass at femSehp that goes nowhere).  Tali will be loyal and will most likely retain her status as "the innocent and cute one" in ME3. Think Kaylee from Firefly, but girlier and w/ a lot more polish.  
Liara will be Shepard's partner and will most likely outlive him/her by 900+ years.  She is the Shadow Broker and unless Shep can steal her away from that life, will most likely only be available on weekends.

Tali is one of my fav characters, but Liara is my LI, but my canon shep is female. 

Play it safe and go w/ Tali.

I assume the reasoning is that femShep is somehow better for Liara.
