Whenever I try to Land on Illium to recruit the two people there, Mass Effect 2 crashes, the computer saying "Mass Effect 2 has quit working" blah blah blah. So I can still play after that, but I can't land in Illium only.

Read this first ;-) If your system meets the specs, and you have installed the patches and the problem still persists: Try a complete re-install of the game. Backup use profile (C:\\User\\USERNAME\\Documents\\BioWare) before.
Modding the game via coalesced.ini or your savegames might also produce some problems. Did you do that?
