I know DA2 story line and characters are set in stone already. It would be nice for a change, if companions would romance each other and not wait on the PC to choose them. Or having an LI that actually would break up with your character mid game for another NPC. Romance is much more believable if the chance of rejection, the chance of not making it work, and most importantly there is nothing the PC can do to win over completely a potential LI due to in game story circumstances. Im not asking for a sims game, just that if you are going to do Romances right, add a little bit more conflict in them, instead of just handing it to us.
:innocent:
See, I just play actual otome games when I want that level of complexity for a romance. Romances are not the focus of Bioware games, they don't need to add a bunch of complexity (and budget and manhours) to optional content.

And I think I'm in love with your avatar

Maybe this would even work with Bethany/Carver having a romance with some NPC and the player could have a role, like helping or disapproving of it ( I know its too late now). It would certainly enhance the idea of having a family member in your party, and add more depth to such a relationship.

if handled correctly and sparsely however, maybe this sort of thing has a bit of chance...

Isabela: I'm sorry ... but... I'm going to have to end this kitten.
FHawke: Why?!
Isabela: Well at first I thought I could handle the whole "they're sisters" thing but...
FHawke: Wait.... what?
Isabela: I mean seriously your sister has a nice rack... not like theres anything wrong with yours it just like.... well she knows magic
FHawke:..............................................

doing that, there would be a danger of it becoming too much like a soap opera as I'm sure has been said before.

this is what I meant. Im not big on getting LIs in games and have played playthroughs without pursuing one. But it would be refreshing if it was changed up a bit with your companions.
So instead of more LI dialog just different LI dialog. And inject that kind of dialog into companion banter to create LIs between NPCs.

In two of the five Bioware games i have played, my love interest has attempted to kill me.
I plan on rolling a fem!Hawke mage and knowing Fenris' past history with his Tevinter slaver magister and general dislike of mages in general (I'm sure), am wondering if another potential LI will attempt to kill me.

Hmm, LI Buffets.

Literally?
{Legal Notice: Merril has not been confirmed as a LI STILL!} Please note the corner of doom and gloom people are congregating to because of this legal notice.
