Try to tell them it isn't the best thing since sliced bread. Just cause a specific group doesn't like something doesn't make it universally bad.

Yeah... look, some free advice, replace better with different. The idea that your always right will not work well in life. For some reason people don't like dealing with superiority complexes
It all comes down to taste and when it comes to art and entertainment everyone's different, as long as someone enjoys it then it was good.
In fact If you hate the series why did you bother looking at this thread at all? That alone casts serious doubts over your taste.

I just wish that Square-Enix would start pushing a different series as their bread and butter.
Would make for a nice change of pace.

Good points but its left me asking who they are trying to target with this game?Dust_King wrote...
Well, looking at X-2 there are some lessons that can be learned.
-Don't change characters that people liked. Yuna was a great character in X, seeing her in short shorts with ultra cleavage was just too much.
-Don't alienate your previous target audience. Scantily clad women, a small single sex party and dress-up being a main game mechanic were not right in a setting revolving round death (even if that's over)
-Don't revise the emotional points of the last game, Tidus dying was a great ending and made his character. He Does Not come back to life and live happily ever after with Yuna.
I'm quite sceptical about XIII-2, but I did like the setting and characters so I'll probably give it a chance, depending on reviews. I think it can be done well, I know Square-enix can make great games, but I do think they need to have a serious look at what they've been doing wrong lately.

I didn't hate the gameplay, the battle system was ok I could live with it and I did enjoy alot of the battles but the level up system was terrible.Dust_King wrote...

To be honest I thought the opposite, the gameplay never really felt interesting or deep to me but I loved the characters. I was surprised since I did start off hating most of them but I thought their development was very well done. I mean, yes they suffered alot from clichés but I ended up liking them despite it. Hell, even Show, who I despised on basic principal from the moment I saw him eventually won me over with all the crap he manages to deal with, in an age where so many male leads are either angsty or generic badasses I eventually found him to be interesting and even likeable (although still a bit of a douche).
That said, they need to medicate Vanille or do something to sort her out.
Edit: @teddie; I think Versus will be better simply because of the team doing it, I think alot of the major crew and programmers worked on really good games, FFVII, FFVIII, FFX, Kingdom Hearts 1&2. That and I am fully in love with the art style (seriously I would do terrible, terrible things for that art style...)

If XIII-2 can actually make the whole game more open like the last disc of XIII, that would make all the difference in the world. I likes exploring in my rpgs.

I like exploration but honestly my favorite parts of XIII were the linear parts. I thought the story was paced perfectly and I was on pins and needles forr the nexst progression. On pulse it was just like any "open world" game, but I still loved it. I'd like if they kept some linearity but I can see what you mean about wanting to be able to branch out.

I'd rather see XIII-2 be more like X as far as exploring went. Sure, it was somewhat linear, but they had towns to break up the action, and a lot of mini games and what have you. I'm not an rpg gamer that loves non-stop action. If I wanted that, I'd be all over the Duke Nukem Forever board lol.![]()
