Heh, you know, I enjoyed the game but I have to agree with you.  Some of the characters I didn't care for.  I liked Lightning, Snow, Fang, and Sazh but that's about it.  I have to say, though, if I were 10 years younger I probably would have thought the game was fantastic. 

towns is what made the previous FF's not so linear and fleshes out the world, the story is a jumbled mess theres no clear villain from the start of the game, the story had no direction like the previous installments, it was lcie this lcie that and was far too linear.

I felt that XII was far more refreshing than previous FF with its open world.

Agreed.  I didn't quite get what was going on much of the time and that made me care very little for the plot.  I miss navigating the world map, to be sure.  Seems like much was put into graphics/prettiness and little into plot substance.   The plot was there... if I squinted.   

That said, I still enjoyed the game for the fluff that it was.  Honestly, I liked this one lots better than FFXII.  For some reason, I just really didn't like that one.   I think it was the combat style.  I just hated it.

I just did some research and it turns out there's 3 upcoming FF games slated for release this year. Good thing I stopped playing the series years ago. Though that gameplay trailer has definitely piqued my interest.

This was planned at the same time as FFXIII.  Yeah they are all supposed to be part of the Crystallis series or somthing like that. FFXIII versus they have been working at least 2-3 years now, with very little info, but thats no surprise considering Tetsuya Nomura (director ) is working on it and was also director for  KH BBS, KH 358/2 Days, KH coded and KH recoded  KHBBSFM and now KH3D all at once. So FFXIIIversus is long overdue. :PKeep in mind the release might be longer than you think because they have to release it in Japan first and then the NA release typically is 4 months to 6 months later.
Seriously, gotta love Bioware and its communication forums. Square Enix is sooooo cryptic with its release info, not to mention gotta look for the latest news in Japanese:blink:
Here I get my DA2 info easily...my KH and FF info fix on the other hand.....

LOL, I know its sad. My bf thinks Im nuts as I started ordering the newer KH games in the  Japanese version as I got tired of waiting for the NA releases. It'll probably be another 10 years before KH 3 comes out if it ever does:crying:
I can still hope.........the tears Square has give me with Kingdom Hearts would put the tears from the DA2 naysayers to shame...LOL

sadly versus won't be coming out until 2012 at the least, because in a recent interview Nomura mentioned the rest of those games are scheduled for release this year and to forget about versus, which is disappointing since it was announced over 4 years ago, but ill be happy with at least getting xiii-2 and dissidia 012

Wow, just saw the new versus trailer with gameplay. Looks amazing. Hopefully next year the TGS they'll tell us more about XIII-2 and Versus.

XIII-2 comes out this year so it'd prolly be this years TGS. Might be some stuff for Versus too.

Final Fantasy X saw a direct sequel in Final Fantasy X-2 – a game with a combat system that would prove influential to that seen in Final Fantasy XIII.
