It's awesome!  The game looks better, and the loading times are faster.  I'm sure there are other improvements as well but so far I'm only at the Cerberus station.  It's a great game!

Still, anyone else finding it a tad bit strange to actually be playing a Mass Effect game for the PS3.  For the longest time I have established the Mass Effect franchise in my mind as a Xbox360 franchise.  To play it on the PS3 is like playing Halo Reach on the PS3.
It's weird, yet really cool at the same time.
Multi-platform games usually are inferior on the PS3 but Casey Hudson and his pals really did a phenomenal job on not just giving us a faithful port but improving the game.

He wasn't kidding when he said this is the definitive version of Mass Effect 2.

Glad you're enjoying it. I'm looking forward to getting my own blu-ray copy of ME2.

After looking at some of the early comparisons my faith in Bioware had been restored that the original fans of the series and the game had not been forgotten...if what you are saying is true my faith is shaken again. Perhaps you can take some videos of both versions that you have and post them on YouTube.

My only hope is that if the "PS3 version" is truly the definitive version that "the other" mediums will get that update - even if it means having to re-purchase an "ultimate" edition of the game. Otherwise I think that Bioware runs the risk of disillusioning its original fanbase.

does the PS3 version say it supports 1080p resolution on the back of the case like the 360 version does?

If something as trivial as a reworked lighting engine is enough to "disillusion the fanbase", they weren't worth holding on to, in the first place.

Not out here, yet, probably going to go the PSN route just for the hell of it. Then will have regular x360, PC CE and PSN versions of the game. ;)

The true definitive version will always be the PC version. Better graphics, mods, and the more elegant mouse and keyboard control.

Just because BioWare made a PS3 version doe not mean they suddenly hate the 360. It just means that a great game will get a wider audience. I say hooray!

Why can't we all just be happy that more people will get to enjoy a great game? The more people who enjoy quality games the better.

Elegant as a drunken sailor.

The PC port should have won some kind of underachiever award last year.

Funker,

When looking at the original comparisons that were thrown out there on the web - I would agree with you that it was a difference in "lighting". I thought that the comparisons showed that the games looked different, but neither was "significantly" better than the other. I took the "PS3 version is the definitive version of the game" comments and as a marketing ploy to get more people to buy the game on PS3. And while people would notice differences, that the game would not be significantly better.

However, in the last week or so - what was being said was that the demo that was being compared to the 360 version was based on an older build and that the actual game that PS3 was going to get was "better". Again, I took this as marketing...but if what the OP is saying is true - then Bioware has given PS3 users a more refined, polished, better product. And being someone that has been on this wild ride from day one - I would be highly disappointed in Bioware if there were no plans to allow those of us in that position a chance to enjoy the "definitive version" of the game.

And that is why I cling to two small hopes...first that you are right and that the game is simply different; and if it isn't, then at some point PC/360 users will get the chance to enjoy this definitve version as well.

Please do not misconstrue my comments as hate for other platforms...I have no problems with PC or PS3 users getting the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic game and franchise. I simply hope that the experience is equal as possible across those platforms.

I don't know...

Every comparison screenshot that I have seen, has only really shown a difference in ambience, with the original release simulating a slight mist, through somewhat desaturated colours and a little less contrast, whereas the new PS3 one is on a clear day.

This feels like a course change in art direction and scenography, rather than a rendering issue, but I can't claim to have anything, which I might base anything beyond a feeling on.

No, it's 720P.   Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 does look better but the resolution and frame rate are about the same.

Oh, for crying out loud.

Is it any wonder that a game re-released after a year (whether on a different platform or not) might, just might, have slightly better graphics? Do you expect them to just port the entire thing over without fixing or improving anything just to appease the easily-bruised egos of those of us who played it on the 360?

I played it on the 360 and loved it. I loved it so much that I think people with PS3 systems would also love it, and I'm pleased that they're finally getting the chance. I know that, barring a game of the year edition, it's unlikely that it will be re-released for the 360 any time soon with the improvements in question, but that's fine. My benefit was playing it a year before the PS3 people.

If you're seriously pissed that the PS3 folks are getting minor graphical upgrades, then you need to take a long, deep look at your priorities and ask yourself why you A) care about something that doesn't directly affect you, and B) can't be happy for other people to get a nice thing.

I wonder if the PS3 version of Mass Effect 3 will look better than the Xbox360 version.

In any case I have a full playthrough on the PC, Xbox360, and I will soon enough on the PS3. So I can choose any platform.

Random Observations: The gameplay is faster and there isn't nearly as much aim assist. The graphics might look a little bit better. The dialog has had some cleanup. The faces on the characters actually look a little worse. Even though the bumpers are almost always the triggers in PS3 games, I'm still getting used to it.

I think PS3 owners who register this game should get a seperate badge underneath their avatar since they own the ultimate version of Mass Effect 2!

I agree.
And you could say it was bound to happen anyway.  Think of this.... ME1 came out for the Xbox first.  A year later PC gets it.  ME2 comes out for both Xbox and PC at the same time.  A year later PS3 gets it.  Now ME3 is coming out for all three platforms.

To all the graphic ****s: just because one version of a game has better graphics does not mean it's better! Graphics are the most superficial thing to judge a game on.  Now if the graphics on the 360/PC versions were horrid messes, there would be merit in saying that the PS3 version is superior due to the better graphics.  That is clearly not the case, so get over it.

Story and gameplay are what matter, and you can't get the full Mass Effect experience on PS3.  Only on 360/PC.  It will always be a 360 series.

One thing I'm pleased about is that the non-Cerberus DLC is already on the disc. You don't have to download it seperately.

Another thing I noticed is that the video cut scenes look better on the PS3.

I don't have the game yet, but you could swap the bumpers and triggers in the demo.  I'd be surprised if they took that out; you should be able to swap them and then not have to get used to anything.

You can switch the triggers, but the bottom buttons have to travel so far that they slow you down.
