That's funny I could swear I played Mass Effect 1 and 2 on the PC ?  How can it be "a 360 series" when it was already multiplatform and available on the PC as well as the 360 ?

One thing I'm pleased about is that the non-Cerberus DLC is already on the disc. You don't have to download it seperately.

if only they'd put the comic on the disc so i could start playing. who knows how long sony will take to get the redemption codes working. i really hope sony's nonsense doesn't dissuade bioware from supporting the ps3 in the future.

By 9:01 am on Friday I'll be the owner of ME2 on all platforms it's released on.

Let's take a deep breath and assume that all of the 'improvements' are down to the new ME3 engine which is based on an updated Unreal Engine - an engine that many people believe is largely responsible for inferior ports on the PS3. The fact that the ME2, although it's still very new on the PS3 doesn't show these flaws to a noticeable degree proves 2 things

1) The Unreal Engine update should mean that PS3 gamers won't get short shrift when it comes to multiplatform games, and that 360 & PC owners should no longer feel aggrieved with UE that developers seem to spend inordinate amounts of time focussing on the PS3

2) That the future for ME3 does indeed look very rosy.

Please stop with the whole 'this platform is best', 'no my platform is best' debate - it's pointless and never the twain shall meet, instead let us all agree that ME2 is immense irrespective of whether you own it on PC, 360 or PS3 and a game every gamer needs to play.

does the PS3 version say it supports 1080p resolution on the back of the case like the 360 version does?

No, it's 720P.   Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 does look better but the resolution and frame rate are about the same.

thanks.

would you say the finished PS3 version looks better than the demo, or roughly the same?

I would have looked into it, but 1UP and Eurogamer showed that while they marketed as "definitive" its not actually the better game.

Afraid I haven't actually played the demo.  I would be surprised if there were a graphical difference between them though.

Don't you just love language? There are many definitions of 'definitive' I think you need to establish in what context do Bioware consider it 'definitive'

Oh what the Hell do 1up and Eurogamer know? They gave Modern Warfare 2 the GOTY awards in 2009.

Console wars are just stupid. Both are running similar IBM Power chips and both are computers using the same Von Neumann architectures present on every PC. I wouldn't waste my time.

I'm glad the PS3 crowd is liking it. I'm pretty sure that if more people plays it... more and more we will get quality on the next ME release and future DLCs.

couple of questions if i can just squeeze between the bombs dropping from the PS3 and XBox camps (before anyone goes off on one I own a PS3 and sold my XBox cos I couldnt get used to its controllers, courses for horses)

Is it 1080p/i?

I read its quite a bit glitchy in places, dodgy framerates etc, and theres a few holes in the geometry here n there.

is that right?

cos otherwise i'll pick it up tomoz instead of waiting till they patch it on psn...

The PS3 box states it is 720p only

Most of the comments about glitches referred to the demo version which was produced using a 2 month old build of the game.  The best thing to do is read a few reviews about the game, most of the reviews have been positive so far with 90+ ratings.  It is unwise to use the demo as an example of the finished product, the demo was there to give you a "feel" of the game.

This.

Shooter games are for PCs. CoD-nerds and the like playing on their consoles just makes me think of some fratboy morons who are terrible at vidya games playing or teenage boys in the 11-17 demographic, of which I am neither.

Real wo/men use mouse+keyboard for game experiences.

I haven't noticed any glitches so far. The frame rate appears to be the same as the Xbox360 version.

Yeah I agree that PC gaming is best for most genres but I usually tell people I game on consoles anyways in fear that people will associate me with the PC gaming community.

It's mostly "definitive" in the sense of "Bioware really wants you to buy a copy of this so they can sell you ME3 on the PS3 in a few months".

its not the best version, the reviews have shed light on that, the actual game is ported over nicely, the DLC on the other hand has not.

Digital Foundry deems that the 360 version is technically better performance wise and better for the sake of getting the full "Mass Effect" experience.

Given the enormous lack of content on the PS3......basically the majority of importable choices, ME1, mods and so on......combined with the fact it doesn't look better:

So where does the term "definitive" even fit into that? BioWare just said that to make the PS3 players feel better about getting the not-so-good version of a game a year later plus they'd figured they'd drive some of the perfection freaks of their established fanbase crazy enough to go buy a second, lesser version of the game. It's marketing psychology.

nice link, from there video I really dont see how the PS3 port is better, and if this is meant to be the so called Mass Effect 3 engine, it really isn't any different from what we have now. If anything the 360 version looks better.

I will reserve judgement till I play it on my PS3 for myself but my initial assumption is that it will be just as much fun as it was for me on the 360.

Have a laugh at this. Taken from that same link:

"From a technical perspective, if it is running the Mass Effect 3 engine as the developer suggests, players are not getting any tangible advantages over what has already been released on the Xbox 360. BioWare's heavily modified Unreal Engine 3 probably did require a substantial overhaul to accommodate the Sony platform for the multi-format Mass Effect 3, so it would have made sense to use that work for the ME2 conversion rather than  simply port over the existing 360 code. However, this does not manifest in a better game as the marketing seems to be suggesting."
